thats Kubrick's doing. The movie and the book was developed together but the book is all Clerk while the movie is mostly Kubrick.I think while the book has a specific meaning, the movie is open to our views

and why do you relie on others statements and reviews in whole?
you only could get a rough idea of a movie through all the reviews and w/e you name it
unless you try it out you never can get to a conclusion as to whether you would love the movie or not
this applies to every aspect in life
so if you could not keep ya eyes open to watch the whole movie how would you really know that you would not have loved the movie or not
dude make sure you get a few hours of sleep before you watch a movie
cuz you seems to be lacking sleep
and thats why you can't keep ya eyes open to watch movies
the movies are not to be blamed for your problem
most of the movies you have mentioned that you could not stand watching are good interesting movies to many people who watched them
so either all the others are dumb or you are
i'd choose to believe the latter of the two options

monsters vs aliens ....this movie was pretty good and funny and dialogs were great and the whole "homage to old sci fi" thingy worked out well.

nothing much in this though, simple entertainment.. they completely fucked up the film by putting few serious scenes towards the end. could have done bit better if not for those "immotional" scenes.
