The plantation scene actually gives insight to the Vietnam war and how America set the scene for the war to begin in the first place. Many war movies that glorified the US troops attacking the North Vietnam army (read : Chuck Norris movies, Rambo, etc) fails to mention that it was the USA that created the VC in the first place.
This scene explains the futility of the war and also can probably help understand why Brando's character went AWOL in the first place.
according to many reviews btw this movie is not an accurate take on vietnam war.
Movie was exciting and few scenes were disturbing (like the one where the wolves attack, and 1 guys legs break right ??)

Great movie!!But too much blood ruined the plot somewhat

I don't know why producer and director made such a deep emotional movie like this one.not recommended for children as cover says.thanks kosandpol for recommending!
