Who is Buddists called "Maraya"?

Who is the person or thing that Buddhists called "Maraya"?

According to Lord Buddha who is this MARAYA ? Is he a person ? or a bad spirit ?or just a Imagination?

I heard that Lord Buddha has told that Maraya is like a Black smoke ? is it true?

As i think it is an imagination which represents the bad doings we have done... Normally we say that "Maraya" is the one who take us to the hell. So dat means whatever bad we do it takes us to hell...
