OK. Nothing personal or whatever.. Got this mail from my brother. So thought of putting it here for your opinions and comments.

Note: Posted in PRO section. So proper comments only :)

Personaly I think the new year should be for both Sinhalese and Tamils.Because it is a good way and the best way to show the world that Sri Lankans are united irrespective of their Race / Religion. Because Sri Lanka doesn't belong only to Sinhala people.

One question, who actually have proofs to prove that the media started to call this as "Sinhala/Hindu New year" ?

*My openion, who ever wrote this have their own plans to divide hindu and sinhala people and make more conflicts through this. Because we never had any problem about who celebrate or who wont celebrate new year. As i see this is just another attempt to make new problems inside the country.

    hmmm

this is calling as sinhala and tamil new year bcoz to establish a unity between sinhala , tamil and all the people who lives in sri lanka. It is not good 4 blaming media. They are trying to make the unity in sri lanka.

when a part of sri lanka celebrating a new year theres no a unity between people who lives in sl. it shows that theres no a unity in sri lanka

in my point of view better to call the new year as sinhala and tamil new year.

Ya machang.. Even we celebrate it.. Not as to the extend like the buddhists though. But still we also do have kawum kokis kiribath etc. :)

Ya it's better if we call this as Sri Lankan new year or something :D

Well then who started to call it like that machang?

Anyway totally agree with the rest of the comment :)
People are trying to create or rather worsen the conflicts.. But we have to have the brains ad balls to decide what is right and what is wrong..

They report! We think and decide ;) :)

    Staring at my laptop
In my personal opinion, I see a discripency here.

    Sinhala - a nationality
    Hindu - A religion
    Tamil - a nationality.

However., the populer term of use is Sinhala - Hindu New year.

As far as I understand, this celebration can trase it's root's into the ancient King's time of Sri Lanka and as per the records (and as far as I know) it was started somewhere during the rane of King Parakramabahu of the Anuradhapura era.

So why did they start this ? (according to the "mahaweli wanshaya - which chapter I can't remember.. I think it's volume 11 or something)

They said, the king brought hoards and hoards of Indian slaves to build tanks and do other petty things around the country. Yes, also the kings has said to have had a special nag of getting down Indian Princesses for his personal brothel :)

Although by those days, the Jullian calender which we follow now was un-heard of, the Sri Lankan people was following the Moon Calender so did the Indians.

(From what I read) they say the King has named the New year day (of the moon calender) as Sinahlese and "Hindu" new year to satisfy the slaves comman wealth and the princesses in his brothel.

So why did the king "DID NOT" named it as Buddist-Hindu new year???????

SIMPLE., becuase those days there was "hardly" any other religion than "buddism" which was followed by Sri Lankans :)

Simple example and simple answer to anyone who's wondering on how did the name came to being isn't it?

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------

    PS.

I have been getting these simmilar mails from a "cult" called "MAHASOHON KALLIYA" and brutes and brats of all sorts.

I personally see a lack of education and understanding in these so called "web cults" who are suppose to look into the interests of "sinhalese" These idiots acts no second to a die hard "jihad member of Osama bin laden"

No Kidding, seriously. Someone should really talk some sense into these under-educated stupid dickheads who marginalize them selves as DA SAVIOURS of the Sinhala Race.

and just in case if anyone of these so called "cult members" are reading this..
