Who would? I'm not 100% sure whether I would install it or not.

I have three requirements to complete before I fully migrate to Vista.
    1. Another 1GB RAM to bring the tally up to 2GB
    2. ATI's final Vista drivers because current gaming performance is not as good as XP's
    3. An ADSL router to install Vista x64. CNET do not have x64 drivers even for XP. And for Vista x64, they have to be digitally signed, otherwise Vista won't let you install them. 32-bit Vista doesn't mind unsigned drivers. Routers don't need drivers, so I will not have a problem.

i gt enogh RAM and the hardware is ok,So i might install it.Bt I'm nt using it as the major OS for my wrx,dnt wanna screw up my stuffs.

Broken mean what machan? If there is a hardware problem and you cant install XP then most probably you can’t install Vista too.
Or you are talking about software issue? Let us know the specifications of your computer?

I installed Vista as dual boot, in the morning. I wanted to test something that I forgot to do before.

We all know that the games are slow in Vista. (Except one game; FEAR, which is unreasonably faster in Vista) I know this is because of the beta drivers. I wanted to test if the ATI Catalyst drivers for XP would work on Vista. If I recall correctly, it worked on some of the previous builds. But those cool aero effects were disabled. I wouldn't mind living without those effects as long as the games would work as in XP.

Ok, I installed the drivers through device manager, by updating the current Vista WDDM (Windows Display Driver Model) drivers. It asked to reboot. I rebooted. Guess what? I was warmly greated with a beloved Blue Screen of Death!!! So it didn't go well, eh? Damn! Luckily "Restore Last Known Good Configuration" in the F8 menu worked and the WDDM driver was loaded. Then I installed the ATI's beta driver because it's newer. Still the gaming performance sux. The Anti-Aliasing option in NFS Carbon is disabled. WTF!!! Even without AA, I can't run the game as good as XP.

I didn't try any other games. I know OpenGL support is not there in the driver yet, so playing Prey will be impossible at max details, if not medium details.

I still haven't activated it. Since I would fully migrate to Vista in a couple of months' time, I didn't want Microsoft to blacklist my key as we are not yet allowed to install Vista.

I don't see the animated desktop which was supposed to be in the final version. I guess it's a Vista Premium addition, which Microsoft haven't yet finialized. They are only coming in the final, final version :)

About NFS Carbon...It doesn't work in Vista unless you do any one of the following.
    1. You can rename the movies folder in the installation dir. Movies won't play after that however.
    2. Set the compatibility mode to 98/Me
I have only tested the 2nd option and I can confirm that it works. However, I don't know if that's responsible for the slower performance in Vista. Maybe I should rename the movies folder and see if that solves the performance issues.

    Cheers...

How on earth can you install an operating system in a broken computer?

BTW, the only problem I have with Vista is the gaming performance, rather, the lack of it. I know 2GB of RAM would be nice, but I think with 1GB you can do everything without any problem.

Guess what dudes? I'm gonna install Vista as the main OS right now!!! I got most of the gaming issues solved. At least, now I can play NFS Carbon at 1280x960 4X AA etc. with reasonable frame rates. Sure, it was faster in XP. But I'd rather have one OS that two. Besides, these problems are expected at the launch of a new OS.

Installed it yesterday night, soon after the island-wide black out ended. Going good so far.

Dad now knows I need more RAM. I might get money to buy 1GB. Yippie, if that's the case.

even with just 1GB, it's perfectly usable.
just that games like Battlefield perform terribly as it would require abotu 1GB alone for the game at the settings I play it.

"Crap" because vista is usable with 1GB or because some games like Battlefield use a lot of RAM? :D
