StuCk In My AnGelZ HeArT!!!
Hi All,

Well I have this Sony Handycam which captured some videos and now I am struggling to transfer them to my laptop as I tried to connect thru USB to the laptop.. Seems there is no proper usb driver software.. :(

After going thru several forums I found out that there is a way to connect the Handy Cam to the Laptop with the DV out cable using a firewire..

This is the hardware which I am planning to use,

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ex-Pro-Fire...01N4/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1301592259&sr=8-2

So my Ultimate question is.. Will this work for my laptop as I have a Hewlett Packard G62-b24SA (304911) PC Notebook,

and in the left side of the laptop it has a SD-MS/Pro-MMC XD

Will this configuration suit this piece of hardware(Firewire) ?

Macho,

Your laptop will not support it. PCMCIA is obsolete. the new one is called ExpressCard. But unfortunately HP G62 series doesn't have any expansion slots. i.e you cannot use any of the above. Try looking for USB to Firewire converter.

Thant's the best you can hope for.

Regards,
Gayan

For sony cameras use ONLY Sony ILINK cables for firewire. Standard firewire cables will NOT work. I'm talking from personal experience here.

Most new laptops have a firewire port on the side. First see if your laptop has it. If it does, then get a Sony ILINK cable for your handycam. Check the manual of the camera to get the ILINK cable model number.

I have to say this is wrong. I've been using Sony camera's, Sony DSR-25/DSR-1500 decks with a non Sony cables to capture videos to my desktop. (Asus M4A88TD-V EVO/USB3 and Gigabyte GA-MA785GT-UD3H motherboards)

I've used 3 handycams, All using DV tapes, none of them worked with standard firewire cables. Only the ILINK cables worked. With standard cables, the PC (windows XP, 7 and Linux) doesnt even detect any firewire devices but with the INLINK cable, all 3 OSs detect the firewire device.
