Wilpattu National Park (Willu-pattu; Land of Lakes) is a park located on the island of Sri Lanka.
The unique feature of this park is the existence of "Willus" (Natural lakes) - Natural, sand-rimmed water basins or depressions that fill with rainwater. Located in the Northwest coast lowland dry zone of Sri Lanka. The park is located 30 km west Anuradhapura and located 26 km north of Puttalam (approximately 180 km north of Colombo).
The park is 131, 693 hectares and ranges from 0 to 152 meters above sea level. Nearly sixty lakes (Willu) and tanks are found spread throughout Wilpattu.
Wilpattu is the largest and one of the oldestNational Parks in Sri Lanka. Wilpattu is among the top national parks world renowned for its Leopard (Panthera pardus kotiya) population. The Leopard population in Wilpattu is still not yet known.

Do you want to visit ?

This is the guidance for one day safari. But if you would able to do camping it will be a great experience.
If you are planning for a one day tour you have to be at the entrance around 5.30am, because park opens at 6am.
As per saying Early bird catches the worm, try to be on first Jeep in to the park. You can find a jeep from internet if you search “wilpattu safari jeeps” or else on your way to park you might be able to see jeeps are available. Best thing is book one of jeep when you are planning.

You must have luck to see the animals, 94% does. 5% fail. :D:confused::yes:

Do not make noise while traveling and follow the guidance from your guide/tracker.

DO NOT LEAVE ANYTHING OR TAKE ANYTHING FROM PARK.
DO ONLY PHOTOGRAPHY

We hired a jeep from a guy called Supun who is interested in wildlife photography. His service can be obtained on prior appointment. You'll be charged Rs. 7,500 & Rs. 4,500 for full day & half a day safari respectively. We were provided breakfast & lunch by Supun for a reasonable price. If you want to experience the ultimate beauty of the wildlife, keep in mind that patient is the key factor. Normally rain starts in November & will continue up to January hence avoid those months.
