“Get the Facts, protect yourself”: World-class cricketers champion HIV campaign at 2011 Cricket World Cup
Since 2003 UNAIDS has been working with the International Cricket Council (ICC) to address the issue of HIV and AIDS in cricket-playing countries. In 2006 UNICEF, joined this prominent partnership and the programme for 2010-2011 has come together under the Think Wise banner which currently focuses on raising HIV awareness and reducing the stigma and discrimination. The ICC Cricket World Cup 2011, which takes place from 19 February – 2 April across Bangladesh, India and Sri Lanka, is expected to be one of the biggest sports events ever to be held in Asia and provides us in Sri Lanka an opportunity to raise awareness around HIV with a specific focus of reducing the stigma and discrimination that people living with HIV face in our country.
The Sri Lanka Think Wise campaign partnership includes Sri Lanka Cricket, FPA Sri Lanka, UNAIDS and UNICEF. This partnership has come together to ensure that HIV awareness conducted in Sri Lanka under the Think Wise banner is both culturally sensitive and relevant.
