I think it's useful when something happens to Windows and you need to backup data before reinstalling it.

You can backup your valuable data to CDs or something, provided that you have access to a CD writing software. Once your data is safe, you can take whatever step you need to take.

This is also good for hacking. I mean, you can boot from this to any PC which has Boot from Removable Drive enabled in BIOS, and you can access whatever data you need.

So? I used to download 300+ MB files when I was on dialup. (Eg: SP1 for Windows 2003 Server)
