Women chat up shopkeeper, steal jewellery valued at Rs. 345,000
By J.A.L.JayasingheThe Kandy police have initiated an inquiry to arrest four women who have allegedly stolen jewellery to a value around Rs.345, 000 from a Jewellery shop in Kandy yesterday.
Police said that an owner of a jewellery shop in Kotugodella Street in Kandy did not know what was in store for him when four women walked into his showroom showing interest in buying some jewellery.
The four ‘ladies’ had got very friendly with the two sales attendants. While they were inspecting the jewellery they had claimed that they felt very thirsty prompting the two sales attendants to go out looking for some cool drinks and chocolates. The women had continued to chat with the owner.
Later, after the four had left, the owner and the sales attendants realized that jewellery to the value of around Rs.345, 000/- was missing. As soon as they detected the loss, a complaint was lodged at the closest police station. By that time, the four women had already vanished. Police sources said that the jewellery would have been pilfered while they had been chatting with the owner of the shop.
