I did not attempt to call your religion dumb in a subtle way :)
Trust me I did not :)

Every religion contains some advise targeted to keep the masses in order.
Those advise are in most cases directed at the society and at that time and reflect the set of values of those ages.
You have to understand that as people develop better values some of those earlier absolutes become outdated.
I don't agree with some of those elements of my religion.

But the stuff not designed to keep the masses in order appears to be timeless to me. And I wont shift because of that.
If Questioning my religion makes me a half baked cake so be it
I'm not going to believe everything somebody told thousands of years ago to a different audience without questioning it first.

do you even believe something somebody says even now to you without thinking about it.

Anyway you successfully pointed me in a wrong direction

My problem was, is that you are using your religion to justify sticking to some ancient value system where people did not treat women equally
Whilst not exactly following other things in your religion that does n't look profitable (hinders financial success ,survival etc)

see that's double standards and that's ugly and That's what I want changed

Do something about this.
rather than talk about the nice things in the book.

To most of he people commenting here

You all are arguing about what's in the holy book and whats not.
That is completely irrelevant.

The followers of Islam or any religion are at a disadvantage
They are trying to defend a book aimed to uphold integrity of an ancient society

My friend, I disagree with you. This is completely relevant. and you say why it is relavent in your answer itself. All muslims abide to the holy book, even though it may sound illogical sometimes. They have no choise.

It is clear that women are not treated equally in Islam, but muslims are forced to defend it because its said in the book, and they must follow the book.

Therefor argueing about the holy book is arguing about concepts in their religion. How is that irrelevant? What's wrong with arguing?

Nobody follows the holy book when it results in losses. :)
People use the book as an excuse to defend their barbaric behaviour
So just tell them to get real

peace

This is not true. What you are saying is some poeple are barbaric by nature and they try use the holy book as an excuse to defend their nature?? That is a complete false statement. Of course some people are born like that but in this perticular case we are talking about people tend to show barbaric behavour because it is promoted in the holy book. They think they can bypass the protocols and laws in the society because they are promised paradise, if they do it in the name of religion.

And yeah, what we are doing is telling them to get real.

Or if you are saying why argue about this matter? it is no use, then What the hell are you doing in this thread ARGUING?

My friend, I see all this as promoting free thinking. If someone by looking at these arguments or whatever begins to think for himself other than believing what's his heritage from birth or just accepting whats been taught dont you think that's might benifit society.

Dont tell me this will not happen or people will never change, I know people who have.

Also why do we believe that we are closer to truth, can't it be that what they are telling is the truth? What's wrong in exploring? Learning? Arguing? Debating?

“In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. From Muhammad the slave and Messenger of Allaah to Heraclius the ruler of Byzantium. Peace be upon those who follow true guidance. I call you with the call of Islam. Become Muslim and you will be safe, and Allaah will grant you a two-fold reward, but if you turn away, upon you will be the sins of the Areesiyyeen (peasants i.e., his followers and subjects who would follow him in kufr).

‘Say (O Muhammad): “O people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians): Come to a word that is just between us and you, that we worship none but Allaah (Alone), and that we associate no partners with Him, and that none of us shall take others as lords besides Allaah. Then, if they turn away, say: “Bear witness that we are Muslims”’

    [Aal ‘Imraan 3:64].”
    Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 7; Muslim, 1773.

You are right. Mohamed - PEACE BE UPON HIM - lived some 1400 years ago in an isolated, vast, sandy desert, cut off from the rest of the world. There was hardly any vegetation or flora. So, he preached that you can kill animals and eat their flesh.

Today, in this global village, it is an entirely different story. Anybody in any part of the globe can get plant-based food, with all the necessary nutrients. For one thing, killing animals is inhuman. Eating meat is one of the main causes of illnesses in all parts of the world.

Also, large scale animal farming for food is a tremendous wastage of limited natural resources. How many kilos of fodder/grain are required to make 1 kilo of meat? Vast areas are required to grow such fodder for food animals while millions of men, women and children suffer from lack of food.

Large scale animal farming is one of the main reasons for the rise of global temperature as well.

So, Mohamed's teachings on this matter is certainly out of date today.

But how many Muslims will understand this reality? They still cling on to their Book.

Understanding is one thing. But doing something about it is another. Human brain of course is evolved to a state to understand things by logic. I think that everyone understands, but they are forced to do nothing, and of course they are forced to deny the logic.
This is not only in Islam but in many other religions as well. In some religions people are not forced to do anything, but they just refuse to see logic coz maybe its too simple or they abide the things brought to them by the heritage.

It is a fact that this is a false statement. It is really clear the where Islam stands with treating women equally. Anyone who reads the first few posts can see that. Anyone who has muslim friends know that.

If somebody says some thing is false ...He should back it up with facts...without bluffing..

Hmm, well are'nt the first few posts in this thread back it up? I think RajNOX while correcting Ex-Muslim Ahmed took phrases out of the quran and it was clear in those qoutes. And I dont see anyone answering or giving comments about my reply to those. So yeah, I think I have proved my point.
