Ratnapura is well known all over the world for its Precious gem stones. It belongs to Sabaragamuwa Province. Merchants from overseas used to come to this town in search of precious gems. When you precede 12 Kim's from Ratnapura to Colombo on your right hand side you will be able to see the Kuruwita Central College which is situated in a hilly place. After we gained the independence from the British on the 4th of January 1949 this School was established.
Special Events of the school
This School was made a cluster School on the 1st of September 1986. On the 28th of June 2001 the laboratory facilities for the Advanced level were given and the foundation for the two Storied building was laid and the reference library was opened.

Internet Facilities were given on the 10th of December 2006.
