With regards to looks, personally I would:

    • Not go for the Mazda Astina but this will most possibly fit your budget  :) Perhaps 1989-1991 model? From my memory Astina has the compact rear (egg-like).
    • Mazda BJ5P did not come as early as 1992 no? At that time there was only BGXX models. Not sure I could be wrong. :) Will fit your budget anyhow seeing as you're looking for a 92. Not sure of an exact price :(
    • Ford Laser will fit your budget also. 18-XXXX or 19-XXXX like you mentioned. Will be around 8 laks I imagine for a 1992, 1993 model. Am fairly sure these Laser's use some parts the Mazda 323 (BGXX) models use. So spare parts should not be a big issue. :)
    • Lancer CB1 is an option. :) 1994 model 18-XXXX numbers. Should be able to find one for around 8 laks. With these Lancer's also, I am fairly sure that it uses some parts the Proton Wira uses hence spare parts should not be an issue.

From that selection, I would go for the Lancer CB1 as first preference, then maybe the Ford Laser or the Mazda 323 for second. :D

    I am a Toyota fan. :P

Hope this helps. If not, please feel free to ask more questions. :)

    thanks anyway.
    i know u are a toyota fan..
but the point is even very old junk models are overpriced.
    look is also problematic...?

and also i dont find why people say the toyotas are better.
even nissan , mitsubishi, honda and mazda has to follow same
    japanese auto standedization rules.

how does it become more reliable

when all uses same steel source, same thickness for metals, same paint suppler, same bearings, same tyres, designing also sometimes by external companies which works for all japanese manufactures..?

the local market is something that we made up..?
or are there any other factors behind this..?

anyway thanks a lot for ur kind help and can u suggest what are the toyotas i can go for that price tag?..........

i stepped backed from toyotas just due to non reasonable prices for even very old models...

Thank you for your reply. :)

Yes you are right, even I would recommend a Nissan, Mazda or Mitsubishi any day. One can't say Toyota is better but I prefer Toyota.

Yes they are quite costly. They tend to have a second-hand market value more than other vehicles which is why I guess they're a lot dearer than other makes.

Saying this, I would highly recommend any of those vehicles you listed. Just not too sure about the Astina. Lancer and 323 is excellent ne. ;)

With your budget you could go for a Corolla 90 Series, that is if you want Toyota. Perhaps Toyota Corolla AE92 or AE94

Another option is a Toyota Corona AT170 (Petrol) I would buy this one. ;) EFI... Very good on fuel  Nice and simple looking car  ... Made for Sri Lanka :D Should be able to find one for around 8 or 9 laks.

    Hope this helps. :D

Small 4x4... similar to a RAV4, SX4, Suzuki Terios... that type. :) GDi engines should not give you any problems. If you look after it, give it clean oil, good fuel etc... it should not do you any harm. The engines are 1.8 ne? Most of the Montero's have GDi 3.5/3.8L petrol engines which seem to run fine with good maintenance. :D

Hope this helps. I recommend you ask the experts just to make sure you're on the safe side. :)
