Though many of us can only dream of owning the fastest car, some actually do. How fast are the fastest cars in the world?
Here are the 10 fastest cars available on the market measured by tested top speed.

1. Bugatti Veyron Super Sport
Speed: 431.07 km/hour
Price: $2.5 million
Its Grand Sport version was launched in India in 2010 with a price tag starting at Rs 16 crore (Rs 160 million), making it the most expensive car ever to hit the Indian roads.
The car is named after French racing driver Pierre Veyron.
Veyron uses components made of special materials like titanium, carbon fibre and magnesium and is assembled by hand at the company's hand headquarters Molsheim in France.

2. Hennessey Venom GT
Speed: More than 420 km/hour
Price: $895,000
Manufactured by Hennessey Performance Engineering, the car is powered by General Motors' 6.2 L LS9 supercharged V8 that can be found in the Chevrolet Corvette C6 ZR1.
The modified engine will produce 725 bhp.
Hennessey will also offer a 1,000 bhp and 1,200 bhp twin-turbocharged variants.
Hennessey is limiting production of the Venom GT to 10 units a year.

2. Koenigsegg Agera R

Just like other Koenigsegg supercars, the new Agera is the work of Christian von Koenigsegg.
The Agera R, which can reach 100km/h in less than 3 seconds, comes with a 5.0-liter V8 powertrain that churns out mind boggling 972 horsepower.
Unlike other supercar makers, Koenigsegg develops and produces its engines in-house.
Its previous version, Agera, was launched in India in February with a price tag of about Rs 10 crore (Rs 100 million).

3. SSC Ultimate Aero

A 1287 bhp SSC Designed Billet Aluminum V8 Block powers the car that has a projected speed of 439 km/h.
The car has twin-turbo V8 Engine with 1183 hp.
The car was tested in March 2007 by Guinness World Records.
The SSC Ultimate Aero was the fastest car in the world from March 2007 to July 2010.

The 2-door roadster Koenigsegg CCX has a 4.7 L twin-supercharged V8 engine.
Koenigsegg CCXR is the eco-firendly version of this car that runs on ethanol fuel as well as standard 98 octane petrol.

In the year 1998, McLaren F1 set a record and became the fastest road car in the world with a top speed of 372 km/h and an ability of zooming to a 100kmph in 3.2 seconds.

7. Gumpert Apollo

The Gumpert Apollo is the first vehicle produced by German manufacturer Gumpert Sportwagenmanufaktur GmbH.
The project is the creation of Roland Gumpert, a former Audi employee.
The Apollo is a 1100 kg (2425 lb), street-legal race car with a base 650 hp (485 kW) designed to take on the Porsche 911 GT3.
It is a mid-engined, rear wheel drive two-seater constructed on a tubular Chromoly frame, with fibreglass or optional carbon fibre body panels.

The Noble M600 is a hand built supercar which weighs about 1275kg and is powered by a 4.4-litre V8 engine available in three states of tune.
The base model comes with 450bhp while the next model has 550bhp and the range topping M600 comes with 650bhp of power.
Noble claims the 650bhp M600 can do 0-100kph in less than 3.0 seconds.

The Jaguar XJ220 is a mid-engined sports car.
The Jaguar XJ220 had its own self-titled computer game, released for the Amiga in 1992 and for the Sega Mega CD the following year.
The name XJ220 was assigned as a reference to the targeted top-speed of 220 mph (350 km/h).
The car has twin turbo V6 Engine with 542 hp.

The Ascari A10 is a super automobile developed by the British company Ascari Cars. The car can go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 2.8 seconds.
It has a 5.0 litre BMW V8 S62 engine with 625 hp.
The A10 features a 5.0 L V8 engine producing 600 hp.
The engine delivers power via a six-speed manual transmission. The car has a carbon fibre bodywork, which makes it quite light and terrifyingly fast. The estimated weight of the car is 1,280 kg.
The company says that the A10 can achieve a top speed of a mindboggling 350 kmph.
