If He is a Chartered Accountant, Why should he works for 15k? he can start an Audit firm for practice , then at least he can earns around 75k per month(Net profit). since there are nearly 1500 members in Practice, Sri lanka have more than 50,000 companies to audit, both Private and PLC companies. So its not big deal to start an Audit firm and earn some good money, If he is A QUALIFIED Chartered Accountant(ACA).

    anyway good thread

Well I am also surprised to hear that a Chartered Accountant works for 15K! I am a Chartered Accountant too (ACA) with 04 years post qualifying experience and I get 125K and I know some of my fellow chartered accountants are getting even more than that depending on the company & the role. Well I run an audit firm on part time basis as well. However it is not so easy to build a good customer base for a young Chartered Accountant and there is a lot of competition out there. One reason for this is that most of the part qualified people are also are giving accounting / tax services and they are used to do all the audit work and only get the signatures from a practicing firm for the audit report for a small fee.

Another point, when you say a chartered accountant you are referring to an associate/fellow member of the ICASL so a chartered accountant is always "QUALIFIED"

starting an audit firm, having quite a few companies to render your service and earn money are three different stages. You can't ride bicycles as soon as you got out of your mother's womb... and for audit firms, it will be always twins. because you can't register an audit firm as a sole propriety. It should be a partnership.

Yeah I agree. Building an audit firm with a good client base can not be done in few years.

One thing to be corrected. You CAN practice as a sole proprietor. You need not have a partnership. However, to practice you need to get a certificate to practice from ICASL. To get the practicing certificate, you must have completed your training in an audit firm and two years out of the total training period should be after passing 3rd stage of ICASL exams.

I feel like ppl tend to choose CFA over ACA cos there is a global demand for financial analysts.. & here in sl it is really hard to get a CFA for a job.. they have a mega demand & u must offer some abnormal packages to get one in, I knw a person who was offered almost 400K by one company here

CIMA, ICASL & CFA have different focuses. ICASL is more concentrated on Financial Accountancy and CIMA focuses on Management Accountancy while CFA is on Financial Analysis. Global demands are always there for all these three categories as I think. True CFA may get higher salaries but local opportunities are less compared to CIMA & ICASL. This is just what I feel.
