Destro will sign for Roma, says Siena teammate Massimo Paci

    172721hp2.jpg

Siena defender Massimo Paci has confirmed that Mattia Destro has agreed to join Roma in the summer.

The 20-year-old attacker, who is co-owned by the Robur and Genoa, has been heavily linked with a move to a Serie A giant in recent weeks after impressing for the Artemio Franchi outfit last season, scoring 12 league goals.

Siena director Stefano Antonelli revealed on Sunday that he expected Destro to join Roma 'imminently', and now Paci has declared that his teammate has finally made up his mind.

"We learned yesterday [Monday] that he had chosen Roma, but it is not official yet, so we should wait," Paci told Sky Sport Italia.

"He is also from Ascoli-Piceno and he made a great impression on him, just like when I saw Giuseppe Rossi for the first time. They showed the same humility,"

According to reports in Italy, Destro is currently in the Italian capital with his agent to meet with Roma director Walter.

Tito Vilanova: Afellay will start the season with us

    197296hp2.jpg

Barcelona coach Tito Vilanova has guaranteed that Ibrahim Afellay will not leave the club in the summer transfer window.

The Netherlands international's future at Camp Nou has been a hot topic of debate in recent weeks after a knee ligament injury kept him sidelined for most of the 2011-12 season.

Barca had reportedly offered Afellay to both Arsenal and Inter in an attempt to raise funds for the transfer of Athletic Bilbao midfielder Javi Martinez, but Vilanova is confident that the 26-year-old will remain at the club - at least until January.
    http://www.goal.com/en-us/news/596/...6/barcelonas-afellay-offered-to-arsenal-inter
"Afellay is a player of great class, there is no doubt about it," Vilanova told Dutch TV channel NUsport. "Like always, he is part of our selection. We will begin the season with him."

The Blaugrana chief then lamented that Lionel Messi will not be able to take part in the club's preseason friendly against Hamburg on Tuesday after sustaining an injury in training.

"It is a shame that Messi will not be part of the team during our trip to Germany," the 42-year-old added.

"He was ready to go when he arrived at Camp Nou, but now he will stay in Spain to recover from his groin injury."

Olympique Lyonnais friendly comes at right time for Impact

    199026hp2.jpg

MONTREAL – Some say these games are just a hassle, but as a player, Jesse Marsch always looked forward to playing the big European clubs when they came to North America for preseason. AC Milan was Marsch’s team growing up and it was particularly rewarding to play the Italian side in July of 2005, which had Alessandro Nesta - one of the Montreal Impact’s recent signings - playing on the other end.

“I played Alessandro [Nesta] when I was with the [Chicago] Fire,” Marsch recounted to the media following Monday's training session. “It was 1-1 until the 85th minute and then we gave up two at the end. As a player, these are games that you cherish. For me, AC Milan was like my team when I was a kid. Playing against guys like [Clarence] Seedorf, Rui Costa, [Paolo] Maldini, Alessandro [Nesta] is always a good test and an exciting time for players, and I think the fans will really enjoy it too.”

The Impact’s friendly with Olympique Lyonnais on Tuesday comes at an opportune time for Marsch, for as well as getting a good challenge from the French Cup winners, he will also be able to give several key players returning from injury some important minutes.

"They [Lyon] are a very, very good team, and you will find out right away that if you are not disciplined, they will make you pay," said Marsch. "The timing of the game is good for us as we can get minutes for some players that have been injured like Matteo [Ferrari] and Nelson [Rivas], as well as Alessandro [Nesta]."

After playing 60 minutes against the Impact’s Under-21 side last week, Nesta said that he’s hoping to play for a half against Lyon on Tuesday and that he’s also keen on meeting up with his former teammate Yoann Gourcuff.

"I look forward to making my debut tomorrow," said Nesta. "I hope to play at least 45 minutes and do well. I know Yoann Gourcuff from his time in [AC] Milan, and I'm looking forward to playing against him. He's a good guy and a great player."

After suffering a right hamstring injury, Andrew Wenger will also make his return on Tuesday and Marsch explained that he would be reverting back to a 4-4-2 formation for the friendly, with Wenger and Marco Di Vaio leading the attack in the first half.

“Both halves we’re going to play two up front, and we’ll be taking a look at that again,” said Marsch. “First half we’re going to play Marco [Di Vaio] and Andrew [Wenger] together and see what they look like. I think we’re all excited to see that pairing working together”.

The Impact are hoping that Nesta and Rivas will be fit enough to start in the Impact's all-important league game on Saturday, when Thierry Henry and the New York Red Bulls are in town.

Vilanova: I didn't know Dani Alves was upset about Barcelona exit rumors

    197999hp2.jpg

Barcelona coach Tito Vilanova has quickly moved to assure Dani Alves that he remains a key figure for the Blaugrana.

The Brazil international had admitted that he was upset with Barcelona's decision not to dismiss exit rumors this summer amid interest from Anzhi Makhachkala and Manchester City.

Nevertheless, Vilanova has explained that he was unaware of player's displeasure, and would have called him had he known how the defender felt.

"If I had known Dani Alves felt upset, I would have gotten in touch with him to assure him about his future at the club. Next time I will definitely do so," Vilanova stated at a press conference.

"There have never been any doubts about his future, not by me and not by the club. He is the best right back in the world in my opinion."

Vilanova replaced Pep Guardiola as Barca coach following the latter's decision to leave at the end of the 2011-12 campaign.

Ibrahimovic wants No.10 shirt at Paris Saint-Germain

    198129hp2.jpg

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is adamant that he wants the No.10 shirt at new club Paris Saint-Germain, even though it is currently assigned to Nene.

The former AC Milan striker wears the 10 when playing for Sweden but has frequently been blocked from possessing the number by other players at club level; including Rafael van der Vaart at Ajax, Alessandro Del Piero at Juventus, Adriano at Inter, Lionel Messi at Barcelona, and Clarence Seedorf at Milan.

Following Seedorf's departure from the San Siro, Rossoneri vice-president Adriano Galliani had promised the Swede the number he craved but his transfer to the French capital has made that pact void.

When he was introduced to the press upon completion of his transfer to PSG, Ibrahimovic said: "Nothing has been decided regarding my number, but if the leaders want to please me, they know what to do."

But the club's sporting director Leonardo has admitted that no decision has yet been made as it could well involve the sale of Nene.

"We have not decided yet, it will take the departure of another player," he said, according to Le Parisien.

The Brazilian, who finished last season as the joint-highest scorer in Ligue 1, had been heavily linked with a move to Corinthians in recent weeks but the club opted to retain his services for the time being.

PSG striker Guillaume Hoarau has attempted to act as a peacemaker by offering his No.9 shirt to Ibrahimovic, but only if he adhered to one stipulation.

"If he asks me in French, yes I will let him [have the No.9]. It is the condition," Hoarau joked to L'Equipe.

Liverpool chairman Werner wants swift Carroll resolution

Liverpool chairman Tom Werner is hoping for a prompt resolution to the ongoing speculation surrounding Andy Carroll's future at the club.Former club Newcastle United has been credited with an interest in the England international and has already seen a loan bid rejected by the Reds.

Anfield boss Brendan Rodgers has admitted that the club will listen to offers made for the striker and Werner insisted that the Ulsterman will be the one to decide if the 35 million pound man leaves or not.

"Hopefully the question will be answered shortly, but at the moment Andy is on the team and we look forward to him contributing," he told Sky Sports News. "Brendan is clearly the leader here. The only thing I can say is we will do what is best for the club.

"At the moment Andy is on the squad, he is an important member of the England team and he has a lot of talent. We will see what happens."

Carroll has scored just 11 goals for Liverpool since his record-breaking transfer in Jan. 2011.

Barcelona rejects AC Milan approach for Alexis Sanchez

    159866hp2.jpg

Barcelona has turned down an approach from AC Milan for versatile attacker Alexis Sanchez, Goal.com understands.

The Rossoneri are looking to reinforce their attack following the departure of Zlatan Ibrahimovic to Paris Saint-Germain, and were hoping to acquire Alexis on a one-year loan deal with an option to make the move permanent at the end of the season.

However, Barca has shot down Milan's advances as it sees the 23-year-old as an integral part of their squad.

Alexis joined Barcelona from Udinese in the summer of 2011, and netted 12 goals in 25 Liga appearances in his first season at the Catalans.

Meanwhile, Goal.com has learned that Milan is ready to sell Robinho this summer if a good offer comes in.

Head coach Massimiliano Allegri does not see the former Manchester City forward as a key player, and an offer in the region of 9 million euros would be enough to lure the Brazil international away from the San Siro side.

Robinho has been linked with clubs such as Santos and Malaga in the past few months.

Dani Alves: I was upset Barcelona did not deny transfer rumors

    174430hp2.jpg

Dani Alves has voiced his disappointment with Barcelona's decision not to deny rumors earlier this summer that he was set to leave the club.

Several reports suggested that the Brazil international was on his way out of the Blaugrana, with clubs such as Manchester City and Anzhi Makhachkala reportedly lined up to sign the right back.

"It’s true that there were rumors that I would not be staying at Barca and I was upset that the club did not intervene," Dani Alves stated at a press conference.

"However, I am above that sort of thing and if the time comes when the club decide they don’t need me, I will just have to accept it.

The 29-year-old then proclaimed that he would like to leave part of his legacy at Barcelona when it does come time to depart.

"I would like to leave in the same way that I joined," he said. "I would like to think that when I leave, I would want to feel that I have left my mark, however small it is."

The 29-year-old defender has a contract with Barcelona until June 2015.

Chelsea completes signing of Eden Hazard's brother Thorgan

    155662hp2.jpg

Chelsea have secured the signing of Eden Hazard's younger brother Thorganfrom RC Lens.

The 19-year-old joins his older brother Eden at Stamford Bridge after completing his move from the Ligue 2 outfit, and plays in a similar position to his sibling, an attack minded midfielder. Eden completed a move earlier in the summer for around 32 million pounds.

Being two years younger than Eden, Thorgan Hazard is yet to earn a cap for Belgium, and has only made 11 appearances for his club side Lens.

However, he is a Belgian youth international after representing his nation at Under-16, Under-17, Under-18 and Under-19 level, and played at the 2011 European Under-19 Championship.

He will join Chelsea's Under-21 squad, managed by Dermot Drummy, to continue his pre-season training and a loan move is being considered to continue his development.

'Modric would fit in at Real'

    lukamodricconfusedlook_576x324.jpg

Wantaway Tottenham playmaker Luka Modric "would fit in at Real Madrid" according to Los Blancos' assistant manager Aitor Karanka.

Modric, 26, is determined to force a move to the Bernabeu and has not travelled with the Spurs squad for their tour of the United States. He also missed training on Friday and was fined for his actions before returning to a pre-season session in England on Monday. Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas has stressed that the club "have to hold on to our values and our rights" amid reports that they are holding out for £40 million for the Croatia star. Real Madrid appear to be the only club both interested in Modric and willing to pay such a high transfer fee, and Los Blancos' No.2 Karanka confirmed that the Spurs ace is firmly on their radar.

"Tell me a club that wouldn't want a player like him," Karanka said. "He's a very talented player who had a great European Championship. It's clear he would fit in at Madrid."

:cool:Sao Paulo: Utd deal not dead

    lucasmoura20120318_576x324.jpg

Sao Paulo vice-president Joao Paulo de Jesus Lopes says he remains hopeful an agreement with Manchester United can still be reached over Brazil starlet Lucas Moura.

Lucas' agent all but ruled out a summer switch to Old Trafford on Tuesday after United's €35 million bid was rejected by the Brazilian club. However, Sao Paulo now claim they are open to negotiations with United before the transfer window closes."I don't rule out the possibility that in the future we open negotiations with Manchester United as we received them with great courtesy," Lopes told Radio Estadao ESPN.

"And there is the possibility they come back with another offer. Their approach was serious. Other teams have also expressed interest for Lucas, but only through the press from their countries."

Sao Paulo's economic rights ownership of Lucas is set to drop by 10% on August 1, which would see the club risk losing out on around €4 million should they fail to agree to terms in the coming days.

Meanwhile, Lucas has instructed his representative to continue talks with United while there is still a possibility that a deal can take place."My boss is the player. I always talk to him," agent Wagner Ribeiro told Radio Globo. ''The person who determines what I do, and my guidelines, is the player. If he says he does not want to leave Sao Paulo, I wouldn't even accept an offer.

"He told me to go ahead when I spoke about the interest of Manchester [United]. It's a great proposal. If it was something he couldn't refuse, he would go. But he is also happy in Sao Paulo. [But] if he stays at Sao Paulo, life goes on."

    Henry open to Arsenal return

    thierryhenryarsenalteeth20120204_576x324.jpg

New York Red Bulls forward Thierry Henry is not ruling out the possibility of sealing another return to Arsenal.

Henry, 34, spent time training with Arsenal during the off season of the MLS last winter before agreeing a short-term loan agreement in January with the club he left for Barcelona in 2010.The Frenchman scored twice during his loan spell, his first of those strikes on his comeback match in the FA Cup against Leeds, and he has admitted he sees his future back at Emirates Stadium.Henry said in the Sun: "I would like to go back to England with Arsenal for sure.

"I wasn't planning to go back to play last season. It was only because Gervinho and Chamakh went to the African Nations Cup."I was there to train and they asked me if I wanted to play. Who knows what might happen in the future? I've not yet spoken to Arsene about it so I don't know what capacity I could go back in.

"Coaching does interest me but I don't know what my talent is going to be after I have finished my career. But I will go back to Arsenal."

    Bale could face ban

    garethbaleceleb20120724_576x324.jpg

FIFA president Sepp Blatter has said Gareth Bale could be banned for playing for Tottenham during the Olympic Games if the FA lodges a complaint about him featuring for his club while unavailable for Team GB.

Bale scored as Spurs drew 1-1 with LA Galaxy during their American tour on Tuesday. He had been withdrawn from GB coach Stuart Pearce's squad for the Olympics because of injury.

The FA and British Olympic Association have not commented on his appearance for Andre Villas-Boas' side, but Blatter said: "The principle is that if a club does not release a player, then an association can come to FIFA and we will then ban this player during the Olympics.

"So far, nobody has come to FIFA [to complain about Bale] - but it is a possibility that we could ban these players if they are not at the disposal of the national team.

"They [a football association] complain and then we say: 'Let this player go or he cannot play for the club.' FIFA's position has never been so clear as it is now for the Olympics 2012 and 2016."

If any complaint over Bale was made and led to a ban, it would mean the 23-year-old Welsh international could not play in any matches for Tottenham until August 12.But Spurs would be likely to argue that Bale only regained fitness this week, justifying the decision to withdraw him from Pearce's GB squad.

Bale played 74 minutes of the match against Galaxy, and Villas-Boas said: "Gareth is extremely young and physically a beast, so he was able to put on the effort. "We extended [his time] because we want him to complete a certain amount of minutes before we start the season."

    Galliani drops Kaka hint

    kakaceleb20110409_576x324.jpg

AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani has hinted that the Serie A club could look to bring Kaka back to the San Siro.

Kaka, 30, has struggled to live up to the £50.7 million transfer fee paid to AC Milan by Real Madrid for his services in 2009.

The Brazilian has regularly been linked with a return to Milan, and this week Madrid assistant Aitor Karanka appeared to indicate that the playmaker's future is uncertain.

"Kaka and the club are working to find a solution that is good for both parties," Karanka said after Kaka was left out of Real's friendly against Oviedo.Speaking on Wednesday, Galliani told Gazzetta dello Sport: "Some loves never end, they may go away for a long time, but they always return."

Kaka made 17 starts for Real Madrid in La Liga last season, scoring five goals and managing seven assists.
