The Sri Lankan navy today (25th August) arrested 98 Sri Lankans attempting to leave the country illegally for Australia in two fishing trawlers in the seas off Chilaw & Batticaloa.
The Sri Lankan navy said the two groups arrested comprised of 72 Tamils, 24 Sinhalese & 2 Muslims.
It is illegal to leave the country from unauthorized ports. The maximum sentence is five years in prison.
