    Here are some places you can apply for

    MIT (They have a separate networking division)
    enable (I think they write this as n-able :baffled: )

    I guess these two would be the best as they do new projects, do maintenance and troubleshooting and also deal with a variety of stuff.

    KBSL - mostly voice related stuff

    Sri Lankan Airlines - Mostly a maintenance and supportive role from what I have heard. Less chances to learn new things. Though with the opening of the new Mattala airport, who knows? :D

    IBM (IBM Sri Lanka OK. :P:P)

    DMS Electronics

    Regarding MIT networking, I worked there earlier (around 2 years ago).

    * probational period salary - 50,000
    After the probational period of 6 months, the salary increases to around 60,000 or more and then there are the usual increments, bonuses etc.

    Pros:
    * you do not need to know cisco before joining. (i didn't even have CCNA :) )
    *flexible work hours . 11ta withara unath enna puluwan. lol.
    * good experience

    cons:
    * no training given. therefore you will have to learn while working. Lots of issues come during work which you would not have even imagined.
    * you have to go to lots of client sites, some clients are bitchy. Also, there's is lots of stress because you are working with live systems and a small mistake may potentially cause a network crash. (and the clients are major banks, airlines, ports and other high profile places. so you can imagine the pressure) If you are in the office, it means that most likely you don't have any work to do.
    * because of the flexible workhours, you may be required to work during the night even. infact most of the "downtime" for live networks is given at night, and you have no option. Also, if a breakdown occurs (once it happened due to lighting at a client office), you have to be ready to even go in the night.
    * salary is lower than for software (i got offers at virtusa and mubasher for higher salaries but I don't like coding)
    * the networking team at MIT was only about 35 when I was there. So, it's a pretty small team and they don't hire too many people.

    Hope this helps for somebody who wants to go forward in the networking field. :cool:

    This is false. You can go to MIT networking as your first job without even knowing ABC of cisco.

    It may be true if u r a graduate & u have many of your seniors working there supporting you, but if an undergraduate gets an opprtunity, they may well consider cisco literacy & past experiences. But they rarely recruit undergraduates from private universities
