Grave of the fireflies is the only movie which made me cry. I couldn't take it out of my head for couple of days. Saddest movie ever :(

Don't worry I'm fine - it's a french film and never a movie had before or since made me shed actual tears lolz

then there are other emotionally devastating films like

    Cinema paradiso
    Requiem for a dream
    Tale of two sisters
    Open hearts
    a short film about love
    casablanca
    schindlers list
    the war zone
    shame
    the wrestler
    through a glass darkly
    ponette
    paris, texas
    boy A
    dolls
    breaking the waves
    dogville

there are more...these all left me emotionally drained after watching them..

Sorry man. We shouldn't judge life as a happy journey from the little little moments that make us happy, what comes after the happiness is always sadness. That's the eternal truth.

have you watched Grave of the fireflies-anime?

yeah it was pretty depressing as well :D
you should watch barefoot gen (another Jap anime), its even more depressing than Grave of the fireflies, it's based around WWII japan as well, you can always trust that film to break your heart into pieces, only a few film can present atrocities of war in such a devastating manner..

I can't still recover from grave of the fireflies. I'll watch that later. I'm too sensitive to children, can't bear to watch them suffer.

then you shouldn't probably watch Barefoot Gen, it's got kids too :P as leading characters of course

for pretty depressing animations, I might also add Plague dogs, when the wind blows and Up..Up ends in more of a happier note though

I forgot to add Mary and Max, great animation film. it's incredibly miserable
I watched it half and paused to watch later. I didn't like its anime style. Not the natural way no? Anyway not gonna judge anything until watching it fully.
