:cool:Messi gets green light for Champions League semifinals

    270500hp2.jpg

The Argentine has been struggling with a hamstring injury this month but looks set to feature against the Bavarians in the European last four first leg next Tuesday.
Lionel Messi has been confirmed as fit to face Bayern Munich in Barcelona's Champions League semifinal first leg on April 23.

The 25-year-old was told at training on Tuesday he would be ready to play against the Bavarians next week with his hamstring problem a thing of the past.

The Argentine has missed the Blaugrana's last two Liga matches due to the injury, however, he did come off the bench in between the domestic matches to have a major impact in the Liga giant's second leg with Paris Saint-Germain earlier this month.

The Catalunya club was trailing 1-0 when the four-time Ballon d'Or winner was brought off the bench and he eventually set up Pedro for the crucial equalizer which ensured the club's progression into the semifinals on away goals (3-3 on aggregate).

It remains to be seen whether Vilanova and his assistant Jordi Roura will choose to risk playing the forward against Levante on Saturday, though it can be assumed that Messi being rested is a sensible option with second-placed Real Madrid 13 points behind with seven games to go.

Prior to his injury-induced absences, the attacker had gone on a record-breaking streak of scoring in 19 consecutive Liga matches and tops the Primera Division charts with 43 goals.

El Shaarawy has 'no problem' with Allegri

    263200hp2.jpg

The Rossoneri and Italy striker says he respected his coach's decision to leave him among the substitutes for the match with their rivals this weekend AC Milan forward Stephan El Shaarawy has said he understood the choice of his coach, Massimiliano Allegri, to leave him on the bench for the match with Napoli.

The Rossoneri started with Robinho and Giampaolo Pazzini in attack and drew 1-1 with their opponents, a result which keeps them third, four points behind Napoli in second place.

“It was a decision taken by the coach and I fully respect it, like I have always respected substitutions in the past,” he told the Milan Channel. “He has given me lots of confidence and shown a lot of belief in me, so there is no problem whatsoever. I respect his choices and, in the game against Napoli, he preferred to start with Robinho."

He added, “There is no problem between the coach and I, we have a good relationship and we always have had. I am relaxed, I have done well until now and I just want to keep improving.”The Italy international explained that his goalscoring has been affected by the arrival of Mario Balotelli from Manchester City.

“The arrival of Mario Balotelli hasn't changed things that much. As a team we still create chances, but I am a little less clinical in front of goal but that is because I sacrifice myself for the team. I am happy with what I have done over the last few months and I want to help the team as much as possible.”

El Shaarawy has scored 16 goals in 30 Serie A matches this season.

Ancelotti rules out PSG move for Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney

    255176hp2.jpg

The Italian claims the England international is an idol at Old Trafford, which would will make it "impossible" for the French club to sign him Paris Saint-Germain coach Carlo Ancelotti claims it would be "impossible" for the French club to sign Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney.

Goal.com revealed in March that the 27-year-old, whose contract expires in 2015, has already admitted to teammates that he may leave Old Trafford this summer.

"Wayne Rooney is one of the best attackers in the world," Ancelotti told reporters. "I think it will be impossible for PSG to buy him. He is an idol at Manchester United."

Rooney was left out of Manchester United's starting lineup for its Champions League tie against Real Madrid last month, prompting uncertainty over his future at the club, but Sir Alex Ferguson later insisted that the decision was for tactical reasons and his relationship with the striker was fine.

PSG has been heavily linked as a potential destination for Rooney, despite the French club's director, Leonardo, and president, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, both dismissing reports which suggest a bid had already been made for the England international.

On Sunday, PSG's former adviser Michael Moulin, who owns French sports publication Le 10 Sport, claimed a deal for Rooney to move to the Ligue 1 leaders has already been completed.

“I announce to you from trusted sources: Rooney to PSG is done. He will be at PSG next season,” he said.

Bayern Munich 6-1 Wolfsburg: Treble still on for rampant Bavarians in Cup win

    272692hp2.jpg

A six-minute hat-trick from Mario Gomez was the icing on the cake for Bayern Munich as the German champion destroyed Wolfsburg 6-1 in the Allianz Arena, booking Jupp Heynckes' men's place in the final of the DFB Pokal.

Mario Mandzukic, Arjen Robben and Xherdan Shaqiri were also on target for Die Roten, as they disposed of the visitors, who briefly threatened to get back into the contest thanks to a fantastic strike from Diego just before halftime.

With the Bundesliga title secured and a massive Champions League semifinal with Barcelona on the horizon, Bayern remained in the hunt for an historic treble. Despite resting the likes of Franck Ribery, there was no let-up from the Bavarians as they went straight on the offensive, hungry for victory.

With just a handful of minutes on the clock, Die Roten almost opened the scoring. An intelligent pass from Robben opened the right flank for Phillipp Lahm, and the Bayern captain fired low into the box. Bastian Schweinsteiger was on hand to meet the ball, and his first-time effort slipped agonizingly past the near post. It would not be long, however, before the hosts were on target.

Despite matching the champions across the field, Wolfsburg always looked vulnerable when their rivals countered; and it was a swift break that yielded the first goal. Shaqiri held on to the ball just long enough to release Robben on the overlap, and the Dutchman's pass was met by Mandzukic, who smashed into the roof of the net to give his side the perfect start.

With 35 minutes gone, Shaqiri capped another break to play in Robben, and the provider turned scorer as he deftly chipped past Diego Benaglio to double the lead.

Wolfsburg did not despair after falling two behind, and stepped up its efforts to come back into the game. On the stroke of halftime, the visitors got what they were looking for. Taking the ball on the edge of the area, Diego chose to go alone and hit a wonderful strike that gave Neuer no chance, cutting Bayern's advantage and giving Wolfsburg a lifeline for the second 45 minutes.

Buoyed by that strike, Wolfsburg came out after the interval in an aggressive, ebullient mood and looked to level the game. Bayern's attack, however, altered those plans. A short corner from Thomas Muller went to Robben, and the winger reacted well to open up the game for Shaqiri on the edge of the box with a raking pass. The Switzerland international had time to pick his spot, and smashed his effort along the floor to nestle in the corner of the net, adding Bayern's third and putting one foot in the final.

Wolfsburg never stopped trying to get back in the game, but could not find a way to go as time steadily ran out for the visitors. Bayern had few problems in seeing out what remained of the match, as it continued the march onward to a domestic double. Gomez capped a dominant display by netting a simple tap-in at the end and then converting a Schweinsteiger pass shortly afterward to leave the home fans ecstatic as they saluted their heroes in full voice.

Gomez still wasn't done, though, and he sealed his hat trick with another cool finish to complete Wolfsburg's humiliation.

The Bundesliga champions booked their place in the final of the DFB Pokal, where they will face either Stuttgart or Freiburg, who play on Wednesday.

    Schurrle 'agrees Chelsea terms'

    andreschurrle20120428_576x324.jpg

Bayer Leverkusen’s Andre Schurrle has agreed personal terms with Chelsea, with the Blues ready to spend €22 million to bring the attacking midfielder to Stamford Bridge, Die Welt has reported.

The paper said Schurrle, 22, could sign a contract until 2018. Leverkusen officials will travel to London on Friday to negotiate the details of a deal which, with the player’s wages included, could be worth around €50 million.

Chelsea had made an offer for Schurrle before the start of the season - something the Germany international described as “an honour” – but it was rejected by Leverkusen.

Now, however, they could be ready to sell. General manager Rudi Voller, speaking earlier this month, told Deutsche Presseagentur: "We are receiving transfer enquiries every now and then. "Andre Schurrle is not the only player of interest. It is obvious for us to have a look at those proposals. We also did that last summer."

Leverkusen are likely to attempt to replace Schurrle with 21-year-old Chelsea midfielder Kevin de Bruyne, who has impressed several Bundesliga clubs while on loan at Werder Bremen this season.“Bayer Leverkusen is a very good option,” De Bruyne’s agent, Patrick de Koster, told Die Welt. “They will play in the Champions League next season, and Kevin could take Andre Schurrle’s role.

“Kevin wants to further his career, and Leverkusen could be the right destination.”
But Leverkusen face a difficult task to persuade Chelsea to sell the Belgium international, with the Londoners reportedly only interested in sending him out on loan again.“They are eying another loan,” De Koster said. “Beside Leverkusen, Dortmund and Schalke are among the clubs interested.”

Earlier this week, Rheinische Post reported that Dortmund were ready to offer €17 million for De Bruyne.

Fulham 0-3 Chelsea: Terry double helps lift Blues up into third

    272934hp2.jpg

Chelsea moved back into third place in the Premier League as it cruised to a comfortable 3-0 win over Fulham at Craven Cottage on Wednesday night.

The hosts looked the better of the two sides early on, but David Luiz’s devastating long-range strike and John Terry’s easy header gave the Blues a two-goal lead at the break and the visitors never looked back, with the Chelsea skipper adding a second header to kill the game off.

Rafael Benitez made four changes from the FA Cup defeat to Manchester City, bringing Terry and Frank Lampard back in, with Victor Moses preferred to Oscar and Fernando Torres getting the nod ahead of Demba Ba.

The Blues boss was hoping for a brighter start from his side than Sunday’s semifinal, but the hosts had the better of the opening exchanges, and nearly took an early lead when Sascha Riether swung in a superb cross from the right, but Bryan Ruiz scooped his effort way over the bar from just a few yards out.

Lampard, making his 600th Blues appearance, volleyed straight at Schwarzer before Branislav Ivanovic escaped with a booking for a strong two-footed lunge on Petric.

Giorgos Karagounis fired over and John Arne Riise shot straight at Petr Cech as the hosts looked the better side, but it was Chelsea which took the lead on half an hour thanks to a world-class goal from Luiz, who picked the ball up in midfield before unleashing an absolutely stunning 35-yard strike which swerved into the top corner.

A swerving Lampard free kick was then forced behind by Schwarzer and the resulting corner was cleared, but it came to Juan Mata. The Spaniard swung in a superb cross from the right, and Terry rose unchallenged at the far post to head low into the net and double Chelsea’s lead.

After the break it was again Fulham which started the better of the two sides, enjoying more of the ball, but Chelsea pressed well and stifled any probes forward from the host.

The pace had slowed right down, but a Karagounis corner almost gave Fulham hope as Philippe Senderos produced an unmarked header which was bound for the far corner with Cech helpless, only to see it deflect off Petric and over the bar.

Chelsea immediately punished the Cottagers as Schwarzer turned a low Moses effort around the post. From the ensuing corner Terry bundled Torres’ flicked header into the net from close range for his second of the night.

With the result beyond doubt Chelsea relaxed, allowing Fulham plenty of the ball, but the Cottagers couldn't find their way through an organized defense and the Blues saw out the closing stages of the game to pick up a comfortable three points.

Inter 2-3 Roma (Agg. 3-5): Destro double helps set up Coppa final against city rival Lazio

    272936hp2.jpg

Roma booked its spot in the final of the Coppa Italia with an impressive 3-2 win at the San Siro against a struggling Inter side.

The Nerazzurri held an advantage in the tie for the first time when Jonathan, who was a late addition to the squad following an injury to Esteban Cambiasso, broke the deadlock in the first half. However, Mattia Destro returned to haunt the club which rejected him as a youngster with two second-half goals to turn the tide.

Vasilis Torosidis grabbed a spectacular third for the visitors to set up a date in the final with rival Lazio before Ricardo Alvarez netted a late consolation strike.

Disappointment at the weekend's Serie A defeat to Cagliari was evident in the Inter ranks from kick off and it almost took another blow after just three minutes. After initiating a lovely, flowing move down Roma's left, Marquinho was only denied a simple finish from Alessandro Florezni's cross by the outstretched arm of Samir Handanovic.

The Nerazzurri soon awoke and in the 22nd minute they took the lead with a goal of extreme quality. Following a give-and-go with Alvarez, Jonathan stormed towards the area and played the ball into Tommaso Rocchi. The veteran striker rolled it straight back into the path of the Brazilian who slid his shot into the bottom corner.

The visitors maintained a high level of pressure but found their attempts to draw level thwarted by the in-form Handanovic. The Slovenian keeper denied Destro from point-blank range in the 34th minute and then turned a shot from Florenzi around the post on the stroke of halftime.

Roma did not let up after the break and after Francesco Totti and Torosidis had both gone close, it finally equalized on the night in the 56th minute. Erik Lamela's perfectly-weighted through-ball sent Destro in behind the defense and the former Inter player dinked the ball over Handanovic and into the net.

Inter's shaky defense has been frequently been its undoing this season and that proved to be the case once more in the 69th minute. Juan Jesus failed to track the run of Federico Balzaretti, who laid Daniele De Rossi's pass across the face of goal and Destro was on hand to tap in his second.

Andrea Stramaccioni's side quickly fell apart and five minutes later the tie was well and truly put out of reach. A magnificent, looping strike from the corner of the box by Torosidis compounded the hosts' misery.

Alvarez managed to pull one back for the hosts with a low shot inside the near post that was no less than he deserved, though it proved to be no more than a consolation.

Thus it is Aurelio Andreazzoli's men who secure a space in the final where they will face arch-rival Lazio, which eliminated Juventus in the other semifinal.

Manchester City 1-0 Wigan: Tevez hands hosts victory in FA Cup final rehearsal

    272889hp2.jpg

Carlos Tevez's late strike gave Manchester City a crucial victory over Wigan to keep their hopes of retaining the Premier League title alive.

The home side were frustrated by the well-organized Latics, who created plenty of chances of their own, notably through the impressive attacking triumvirate of Shaun Maloney, Franco Di Santo and Arouna Kone.

City, who lost Sergio Aguero to injury at halftime, stepped it up after the break but could not find an elusive opening goal, with Aguero's replacement Edin Dzeko missing a great chance before Tevez's moment of magic secured a gutsy win.

Wigan started brightly but it was the hosts who mustered the first real opening, with Aleksandar Kolarov flashing a free kick just inches wide of Joel Robles' left-hand post, as the Spanish stopper stood motionless.

City began to monopolize the ball more and more and were pressing very high on the Wigan defence, who were hassled and harried into numerous mistakes.

Aguero, who almost latched onto a ball over the top from Yaya Toure just moments before, looked the likeliest to break the deadlock and nearly did so after tricking his way down the byline before curling just wide of the far post.

Kolarov, on the other hand, was particularly wasteful with his final ball from the left wing as he squandered a brilliant opportunity to play in Samir Nasri after Tevez had threaded a ball through to him.

As the half wore on, though, the more frustrated City were becoming with a Wigan side who were not only dealing with the home side's plethora of attacking riches but also causing problems for the City back line, with Kolarov being targeted time and again by the visitors.

The ploy nearly paid off as Wigan wasted the chance of the first half. A lovely move involving Kone, who tricked his way brilliantly past Vincent Kompany, and Maloney resulted in Di Santo sidestepping his way past the woeful Kolarov and Lescott, but the Argentinian's side-footed effort was superbly kept out by the sprawling Joe Hart.

Moments later City almost produced an immediate sucker-punch of their own as Tevez raced away down the right and sent in an inviting centre which Aguero somehow failed to connect with from just a few yards out.

Wigan began the second period just how they ended the first, frustrating a City side bereft of ideas in midfield and came close to grabbing the all-important opening goal on two occasions in the opening exchanges after the break.

First, the instrumental Maloney curled a sublime effort beyond Hart but found the towering presence of Lescott on the line, who lashed clear.

Then, after more intricate Latics play, Di Santo played in the unmarked Kone, but his first touch let him down and Kompany recovered to clear as the home side were made to weather a storm.

Their hard work was almost undone, however, when substitute James Milner's low cross eluded everyone in the area, with fellow sub Dzeko and Nasri unable to apply a telling touch.

The game became an end-to-end affair with Wigan sub Callum McManaman coming close with a low shot before Dzeko missed an even more presentable chance, firing straight at Robles when clean through.

Just when it appeared as if City had run out of ideas, up stepped Tevez to produce the moment of quality the game had been crying out for, as he skipped his way past a couple of challenges before bending a sumptuous strike beyond the despairing Robles to send the Etihad Stadium into raptures and give City a flicker of hope in the title race.

West Ham 2-2 Manchester United: Van Persie rescues a point for champions-elect

    272939hp2.jpg

Manchester United twice came from behind to earn a 2-2 draw against West Ham at Upton Park.

Ricardo Vaz Te headed the Hammers into an early lead but Antonio Valencia leveled the scores from close range midway through the first half.

Mohamed Diame regained the lead for the hosts in spectacular fashion only for Robin van Persie to snatch a point with his second in as many games 15 minutes from the end.

The first chance of the match fell to Carroll early on, who after initially hesitating worked some space to sweep an effort at goal with his left foot. David de Gea was unsighted by Kevin Nolan, who tried to re-direct the shot, but fortunately for United the ball clipped the outside of the post on it's way out for a goal kick.

The Hammers continued on the front foot for the next quarter of an hour and were soon rewarded for their persistence. Matt Jarvis showed a good turn of pace to leave Rio Ferdinand on the left flank before floating a cross in towards the back post which Vaz Te was on hand to head back across the goal and into the net.
The visitors had a spell in possession following the goal but didn't manage to manufacture a clear chance for themselves. They came close when Patrice Evra raced to the byline but the Frenchman's cut back was foiled by some fine tracking back by Mohamed Diame.

Moments later though, Shinji Kagawa found himself in the same position and he made no mistake in squaring for Valencia who simply rolled the ball into an empty net from close range to level the scores.Much of the Hammers' threat in the first half came on the break and they were presented with a glorious chance to regain the lead when Nemanja Vidic lost his footing, but a breakdown in communication between Vaz Te and Carroll let Sir Alex's men off the hook.

Sir Alex's men made a bright start to the second period and really should have been ahead inside the first minute of it. Rooney picked out Van Persie with at the back post but rather than going for goal the Dutchman elected to head square for Phil Jones who snatched at his volley, sending it over the bar.

The Red Devils were made to pay for that miss 10 minutes later when the impressive Diame lifted the roof off Upton Park with a deliciously powerful left-footed curling effort which sailed past De Gea. United stood off the Senegal international as he drifted in from the right and he didn't pass up the invitation to shoot.

A combination of Gary O'Neil and Jussi Jaaskelainen kept the Hammers' lead intact by clearing Rooney's effort from a United corner off the line just after the hour mark.

The Hammers' shot-stopper was to thank again minutes later when he tipped Van Persie's close range header over the bar.

But just under 15 minutes from the end the Dutchman was in the right place at the right time to tap home after Kagawa's shot from inside the area bounced off both posts.

The introduction of Chicharito minutes from the end spelt trouble for the Hammers but they defended stoically to escape with a point.

Sahin: Madrid will up its game vs Dortmund

    269715hp2.jpg

The midfielder, who is on an 18-month loan from the Blancos at Signal Iduna Park, also revealed his intention to become the best player in the Bundesliga once again.
Borussia Dortmund star Nuri Sahin believes that Real Madrid will up its game against the German side in the Champions League semifinals.

The two teams met in Group D of the competition earlier this season and BVB beat Madrid at home and held the Spanish side to a draw at the Santiago Bernabeu.

However, the midfielder - who is on an 18-month loan at Signal Iduna Park from the Blancos - is anticipating Jose Mourinho's men will up their game due to their desire to secure a 10th European Cup success but still believes Jurgen Klopp's men have a chance.

"Sure, we can beat them again," he told Marca on Wednesday. "Dortmund won in the group stage and can do it again, although Real are a much better team now than it was then. It will be a tough game, because I know what winning the Decima means to them. The club's players and fans want the tenth, but we want to win the Champions League too.

"Both teams want to win. None of our players have ever won the Champions League and on Real Madrid's squad there are only three or four who have, so both teams really want to win. For Real Madrid, the Decima means everything, but it does for us too, because we haven't won the Bundesliga or the DFB-Pokal either."

Sahin also revealed his desire to renew his tag as one of the best players in Germany having spent last season on the fringes of the Madrid team and then the first half of this campaign failing to start for Liverpool on loan.

"What happened in Liverpool was... it was very difficult," the Turkey international added. "This isn't the time to discuss it. Returning to Dortmund was the best thing for me. We're in the Champions League, I know the coach, my teammates, I have my family near me and my wife and children are happy here.

"And coming back here was important for my game too, to feel the feelings I had before I left. My goal is to regain the status of best player in the Bundesliga and I feel that I'm well on the way to doing that."

Despite failing to break into the first team at the Bernabeu under Mourinho, the midfielder insists that he enjoyed his Liga-winning season with the Spanish giant and praised its Portuguese coach.

"It was a bit difficult, unlike anything I'd experienced before," Sahin continued. "It started with a fairly long injury and then I didn't get back in form or on top of my game.

"But I won La Liga with Real Madrid, worked with Mourinho who is a very special coach, and shared a changing room with fantastic players."
