    Napoli snap up Callejon

    294935_heroa.jpg

The former Spain Under-21 international has joined Rafa Benitez's Naples revolution after opting to leave the Santiago Bernabeu Napoli have confirmed the signing of Jose Callejon from Real Madrid for a fee believed to be in the region of €10 million.

The Spanish attacker has signed a four-year deal with the Serie A club, and brings his second stint with his boyhood club Real Madrid to a close by agreeing to the move.

The 26-year-old made 40 appearances under Jose Mourinho at the Santiago Bernabeu last term, but will now hope to help his new club build on their second-place finish in the Italian top flight.Callejon began his career with los Blancos' C and B teams, after graduating from the club's youth academy, but after growing frustrated at a lack of first-team opportunities in the Spanish capital, he moved on to Espanyol in 2008.

His time at the Catalan club was the most successful of his career up until that point, as he made 106 appearances over three seasons, scoring 12 goals. That form convinced Madrid to bring him back to the club for a fee of €5.5m, and the forward would go on to play a prominent role in their 2011-12 title-winning campaign.

He has now opted to take on a new challenge, however, and will link up with Napoli as they begin life under new boss Rafael Benitez.

The 22-year-old has reportedly cost the Premier League club £12 million, and becomes Mauricio Pochettino's second signing of the close-season following the acquisition of Dejan Lovren.

"It feels great and I am happy to be here," Wanyama told the club's official site.

"Finally it has happened and we've come to the end [of negotiations], so I am delighted. There were other options, but Southampton is a club with ambitions so I chose to came here.

"I am happy to be a part of Southampton's squad. It means a lot because because it has been my dream to play in the Premier League and now I am here."

Pochettino was delighted to finally complete the deal, adding: "I am very pleased to have secured the signing of Victor because we are a big admirer of his talents and he will fit in well to the team here at Southampton.

"I want to stress that the deal could have been done sooner, but this shows that we do business on our terms. The most important thing that ourselves, Celtic and the player are all happy with the way it has all gone.

"The fact that a lot of top European clubs were also keen to sign him shows what an attractive prospect Southampton Football Club is to a player who had his pick of the teams in England and abroad.

"I've watched him perform at the top level in the Champions League, and I believe that he will be a valuable addition to our Premier League squad for the season ahead."

Wanyama has spent the last two campaigns in the Scottish Premier League after joining Neil Lennon's side from Belgian club Beerschot AC for £900,000 in 2011.

    Guardiola blasts Barca president

    pepguardiolapresserfingeronlips20130711_576x324.jpg

Bayern Munich coach Pep Guardiola has hit out at Barcelona president Sandro Rosell and the club's directors.

Guardiola left Barcelona in the summer of 2012 after four seasons in charge, saying he needed to "recharge my batteries", and announced he would be taking a year's sabbatical in New York. However, Guardiola, whose first two years at Barca had come under Joan Laporta's presidency, told a press conference that Rosell had refused to grant him the "peace" he had requested when walking away from the Camp Nou.

"I told them [the president and his directors] I was going 6,000km away and asked them to leave me in peace, but they haven't kept their word," he said. "I did my time [at Barcelona] then decided to leave."I want them to get on with the job and I wish them all the success in the world, because their success will also be mine - I don't need to say what I feel for this club."

Guardiola revealed he had been incensed by the suggestion that he had not made the effort to see Tito Vilanova, his former assistant, when the current Barca coach had travelled to New York for cancer treatment."Too many things have happened that have crossed the line," Guardiola told the media in Lake Garda, where Bayern are holding a pre-season training camp. "I will never forget that they used Tito's illness to cause me damage, because it's a lie that I never saw him in New York.

"I saw him once, and the reason I didn't see him more often was because it wasn't possible, and that wasn't my fault. To say that I don't wish the best of someone who was my colleague for so many years is very bad taste, and I didn't expect that."He added: "If any of the things I've said is not true, come out and rebut it, but it has to be them [Rosell and the board], not intermediaries or Barcelona messengers. Them."

Despite his anger, Guardiola intends to be cordial when Barcelona meet Bayern in a pre-season friendly on July 24."I did the best I could at Barcelona," he said. "The staff and coaches have nothing to worry about. I left and have nothing to complain about - all I asked was to be left in peace.

"I went off to learn English and I ended up trying to learn German. That was all I focused on. I just ask the board to go their own way and leave me alone and stop using me and my friends to hurt me."Guardiola also wanted to make clear that he had not told Neymar's father that Vilanova would not be able to play the Brazilian in the same side as Lionel Messi.

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has confirmed that Guardiola had sought to take Neymar to Bayern prior to the forward's Barca move, and Santos vice-president Odlio Rodrigues claimed the new Bayern coach had spoken to the player's father to try to dissuade him from joining the Blaugrana.Guardiola insists that was not the case."I don't know the vice-president of Santos but probably his intermediaries have got this very wrong, because the information they have given him is false," he said. "I would never make any comments like those he said I made."

He added: "The best players can always play together and those two are capable of playing together for many years."

    Real Madrid sign €38m Illarramendi

    asierillarramendispainunder-21_576x324.jpg

Real Madrid have agreed to sign Spain Under-21 midfielder Asier Illarramendi from Real Sociedad, the two clubs have confirmed. The Basque club's president, Jokin Aperribay, told a press conference that Real had deposited the €38 million demanded in Illarramendi’s buyout clause with the Spanish Football League.

Real, meanwhile, said the 23-year-old had agreed a six-year contract and would be presented as their player on Saturday. The development comes days after Spanish sports daily Marca reported that new coach Carlo Ancelotti was keen to bring Illarramendi to the Bernabeu.

Illarramendi broke into the Sociedad first team in 2011 but exploded onto the scene last season, playing 34 games and helping his side to a surprise fourth-placed finish. He also starred in Spain’s under-21 European Championship triumph in Israel last month.

With reports in Spain suggesting Xabi Alonso could leave Madrid before the start of next season, ‘Illarra’ has emerged as a replacement. Both players are from Gipuzcoa, in northern Spain, and both came through the ranks at Sociedad.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho says he admires Manchester United's Wayne Rooney

    WayneRooneyandJoseMourinho_2971913.jpg

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has admitted that he is a huge fan of potential transfer target Wayne Rooney. However, Mourinho stressed that Rooney is Manchester United's player at the moment and that he was not very comfortable speaking about the matter.

Rooney's future has been the subject of much speculation this summer, although new United boss David Moyes is adamant that he is not for sale.
The England man, who has had to leave United's pre-season tour due to a hamstring injury, has yet to publicly state that he is happy to remain at Old Trafford, and Chelsea are one of the clubs he has been linked with.

And, speaking at the start of their Thailand tour, Mourinho said: "It's a tricky question because I cannot speak about players from other teams."But you know me, it's not my kind of character to speak with a bit of hypocrisy and I always say what I think.

"He is a player I like very much but I can say no more than that. Being fast and direct, I like that, but he's a Manchester United player."Moyes, also in Thailand for Manchester United's pre-season tour, was told about Mourinho's comments. Asked if he felt the Chelsea boss was being mischievous, he said: "I don't think so.

"People are entitled to talk about good players. I am being asked plenty about Wayne so I am sure Jose will be getting asked about lots of players as well.
"It is hard to keep repeating myself - but I will do. Wayne is a Manchester United player and will remain that."

"Thanks to this great club, and their fans for the understanding, support and love they have given me."

Barcelona VP 'surprised' by Pep attack

    20130626pepguardiolabayerntraining_576x324.jpg

Barcelona vice-president Jordi Cardoner has responded to former coach Pep Guardiola's outburst against president Sandro Rosell and the club's directors, saying it had surprised him.

The new Bayern Munich coach left Barca last summer after four seasons in charge and announced that he would be taking a year's sabbatical in New York.
However, Guardiola - whose first two years at Barca were under the presidency of Joan Laporta, who appointed him - told a press conference that Rosell and Barca had refused to grant him the "peace" he had requested.

He said: "I told them [the president and his directors] I was going 6,000km away and asked them to leave me in peace, but they haven't kept their word."
Guardiola also said he had been incensed by the suggestion that he had not made the effort to see Tito Vilanova, his former assistant, when the current Barca coach travelled to New York for cancer treatment.

"Too many things have happened that have crossed the line," he told reporters in Lake Garda, where Bayern are holding a pre-season training camp. "I will never forget that they used Tito's illness to cause me damage, because it's a lie that I never saw him in New York.

"To say that I don't wish the best of someone who was my colleague for so many years is in very bad taste, and I didn't expect that."But a shocked Cardoner told Mundo Deportivo: "The truth is that I was very surprised. I have not understood [the things that were said].

"I imagine there will be some explanation behind these statements because the relationship between us - and I speak not only for myself but for the president too - has always been cordial."We have not used Tito's disease to go against him, and anyone who would do that is a bad person.

"When he announced that he was leaving, we respected it - perhaps, as Catalans, we did not understand, as we would have liked to have continued with him - but we respected him as a person."I am sure some erroneous information has reached him, and I guess I will talk with the president to clarify everything."He added that "maybe Pep should talk to the president to reduce these differences".

Former president Laporta reacted to the row on Twitter, posting: "Guardiola deserves all appreciation from Barcelona for the excellent work he did, for his honesty and the values that he represents."

Tom Ince has declined the offer to join Cardiff City

    tom-ince-blackpool-football_2970870.jpg

Ince had asked to have until Friday to consider Cardiff's offer after the two clubs agreed an £8m fee earlier in the week.

But the England U21 midfielder has opted to remain at Bloomfield Road - for the time being at least - where his father Paul is manager.Speaking on Thursday, Cardiff manager Malky Mackay had remained hopeful of landing the 21-year-old.

"I can only say from the chat we had, we had a very amicable, friendly chat and they asked me a lot of questions about where his career could go forward, where I see him in terms of the type of player he is and what's going on here," he said."He was certainly very impressed by the stadium, training ground and the city in general during our conversation and the plans for Cardiff City going forward."
