Gotze & Schweinsteiger out of World Cup qualifiers

    308942_heroa.jpg

Germany have been hit by the news that Mario Gotze and Bastian Schweinsteiger have both been forced to withdraw from the squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Austria and Faroe Islands.

Schweinsteiger has failed to recover fully from an ankle sprain which forced him to miss the European Super Cup final against Chelsea on Friday, while Bayern Munich team-mate Gotze faces two weeks on the sidelines following a challenge from Ramires in Prague which saw the Chelsea midfielder issued with a second yellow card.

As a result, both midfielders have opted to pull out of Joachim Low's party to face Austria and Faroe Islands in order to continue their recovery in Munich.

Schweinsteiger, who has 98 caps to his name, was expected to be fit for the clashes after scans on his injury sustained in the 1-1 draw with Freiburg suggested the damage to his ankle was minimal.

Low has opted against calling up a replacement at present, despite already missing Ilkay Gundogan and Lukas Podolski due to injury.

Germany, who sit top of Group C with five wins and one draw from six games, face Austria on September 6 before travelling to the Faroe Islands four days later.

English game will suit me, claims Tottenham new boy Lamela

    311621_heroa.jpg

Tottenham new-boy Erik Lamela believes his playing style will suit the English game perfectly.

The Argentina international completed a move to White Hart Lane from Serie A side Roma on Friday, becoming the London club's seventh signing of the transfer window. And he expects to adapt seamlessly to life in the Premier League thanks to Spurs' expansive style.

"I like the English style of football, it’s very offensive and attacking and that’s how I want to play. I have to adapt to playing in the Premier League as quickly as I can," he told Tottenham's official website."To maintain the winning streak we’re on, to integrate into the team as quickly as I can and for us to continue doing what we’re doing – winning games. I’m ready to give it my best."Lamela also hailed the quality of his team-mates having seen them up close in training.

"I’ve only had one training session and I’ve met all the players, they all seem really nice guys and I think we have a great group of players this season," he continued.
"I’m hoping to integrate myself very quickly."

Lamela is eligible to feature in Sunday's north London derby when Spurs travel to the Emirates Stadium to take on Arsenal.

I'm not frustrated with Bale, insists Ancelotti

    301185_heroa.jpg

Carlo Ancelotti insists he is not frustrated by Real Madrid's laboured pursuit of Tottenham star Gareth Bale.

The Wales international is reported to have agreed a six-year deal to join los Blancos in a world-record €100 million deal, although the club are not expected to finally announce the deal until Monday.

Ancelotti, however, maintains he has few qualms over the protracted negotiations for the player.

"Everybody knows Bale, who is a fantastic player," he told a press conference. "I don't know how much more time he will play for Tottenham, but he is still their player.

"I am working with my players, not the players who are not here. If doesn't frustrate me that Bale hasn't arrived yet. If he arrives, whenever that may be, I'll be happy."

Ancelotti also revealed he plans to stick with Diego Lopez in goal for the time being, but insisted that Iker Casillas has shown no desire to leave the club despite seeing his long-standing No.1 spot usurped in 2013.

"Diego Lopez will start in goal against Athletic," the Italian continued. "He is playing well, he is calm.

"Casillas is a professional and deserves my respect. I want to talk with him over the next few days to explain the situation.

"Iker has not spoken to us [about leaving]. We need two very good goalkeepers and I'm sure Casillas will get the chance to play this season."

Ancelotti went on to reveal that the club will look to find an amicable solution concerning the future of Kaka, who publicly expressed a desire to leave Santiago Bernabeu on Thursday.

"The other day he was clear with the press. The club understand his decision. In the next few days we will look for a positive solution."

While Kaka looks set for the exit door, a world-record deal to bring Gareth Bale to the club from Tottenham has yet to be completed, but Ancelotti refused to be drawn on discussing the Welshman's future.

"I don't want to talk about players who are not here. We are concentrating on preparing for the game and I don't think many things will change in the next two days," he said.

Finally, Ancelotti moved to play down concerns over the early-season form of Cristiano Ronaldo, insisting a change in style within the team is responsible for his failure to score thus far in 2013-14.

"[Ronaldo] has changed his position a little. It's not a problem that he hasn't scored yet," the 54-year-old added.

Celtic in talks with Manchester United over Buttner loan, says agent

    300306_heroa.jpg

Manchester United defender Alexander Buttner’s agent, Aleksander Bursac, says Celtic want to take the full-back on loan.

The Dutchman has been linked with an exit from Old Trafford throughout the transfer window with Bursac previously claiming interest from Besiktas.

Buttner made just 13 appearances for the Premier League champions last season and may see his first-team chances further reduced should David Moyes’s men sign Leighton Baines from Everton.

It is understood United have submitted a new bid for Baines and Marouane Fellaini and Bursac believes Buttner could be set to move to Scotland with Celtic, although he remains unsure if United will allow the defender to leave.

"Yes, Celtic would like to take the player on loan for the season,” he told STV Sport.

“We feel it would greatly help the boy's development to be playing regularly at that level and in European football.

"Celtic are a really great club. They [Celtic] have been back and forward in dialogue with Manchester United.

"It's in their hands now as we are not sure if they want to release him."

Herrera has not asked to join Manchester United, says Athletic coach Valverde

    311431_heroa.jpg

Athletic Bilbao coach Ernesto Valverde says midfielder Ander Herrera has not told him he wants to play for Manchester United.

The Premier League champions have had a €30 million bid for the Spaniard rejected by the Liga side as they attempt to strengthen their squad before the close of the transfer window.

However, despite the interest from David Moyes’s men, Herrera has been included in Athletic’s 19-man squad to face Real Madrid at the Bernabeu on Sunday.

"There has been a stir with Ander Herrera's case. He hasn't told me that he wants to sign for Manchester United,” Valverde told reporters.

“He is fit and ready to play. Whether he plays or not is another issue. It's the coach’s decision".

Manchester United also look to have been disappointed in their attempts to sign Daniele De Rossi from Roma.

The Red Devils have registered their interest in the Italy international but coach Rudi Garcia has confirmed he will not be sold and that he will remain at the club for the entire season.

    Callejon backs Napoli title charge

    309516_heroa.jpg

Jose Callejon has backed Napoli to mount a serious Serie A title charge this season.

The Partenopei have finished runners-up to Juventus in the previous two campaigns, but began 2013-14 in fine style with a convincing 3-0 win over Bologna.

And Callejon, who moved to Stadio San Paolo along with Gonzalo Higuain and Raul Albiol from Real Madrid this summer, believes the squad are in the right frame of mind to challenge Antonio Conte's men this term.

"We can win the Scudetto,” he told Corriere del Mezzogiorno. "It’s not going to be easy and it’s a long season, but we have the right mentality to win."

Callejon then went on to praise new boss Rafa Benitez, claiming that he - along with Chelsea's Jose Mourinho - is one of the finest tacticians in the game.

"Benitez is very different [to Mourinho], but as characters and with their working methods, they are the best in the world.

"They have the same ideas when it comes to keeping the group together."

Benitez himself echoed the 26-year-old's thoughts on the club's current mentality, but warned that they face a gruelling season.

“The Italian league is long, very long, and tomorrow's match [against Chievo] is already a difficult challenge," he told a press conference.

“What matters is having a winning mentality and to always play well. On the field is where we have to prove it.”

A move to Real Madrid was 'too risky', says Kondogbia

    273154_heroa.jpg

New Monaco signing Geoffrey Kondogbia has revealed he was put off a transfer to Real Madrid this summer after being convinced it would be "too risky" to fight for first-team football in the Spanish capital.

The 20-year-old midfielder signed a five-year deal with the big-spending Ligue 1 outfit this week after being dissuaded from a switch to Carlo Ancelotti's side and he admits he is now eager to endear himself to the French public.

"When it [a move to Madrid] was mentioned, the conditions for a transfer were not met. And afterwards, I spoke with some people who know football very well, and they told me it would be a risk for me [to move there]," he was quoted as saying by L'Equipe.

"There was a risk I wouldn't play much there, that's obvious. But it's not only that.

"I'm super-happy to come back to France and to get to know the French supporters. Those who watch La Liga on TV know me, but not others."

Kondogbia, who won the Under-20 World Cup this summer, spent only one season in Spain with Sevilla after joining from Lens last summer.

Juventus 4-1 Lazio: Tevez on target as Conte's men cruise

    311828hp2.jpg

Juventus maintained their 100 per cent record in Serie A thanks to a 4-1 win over Lazio.

Arturo Vidal scored twice in the first half to give the champions the edge but Miroslav Klose's reply for the Romans ensured that the result was not clear cut at the interval.

Antonio Conte's men sealed the three points when Mirko Vucinic struck just before the hour mark, before Lazio's Hernanes was sent off, and Carlos Tevez capped a fine individual display with his side's fourth on 80 minutes.

Both sides were unchanged from their respective opening day victories and both played their part in an entertaining start to the game.Hernanes carved out the first real opportunity for the visitors, but could only shoot straight at Gianluigi Buffon having connected with a chipped ball over the Juve defence.

The hosts replied with an early effort of their own, with Vucinic denied by a fine piece of defending from Lorik Cana as he looked to get a shot off after Andrea Pirlo had played him through. The crowd would not be forced to wait long for a goal, though, as Vidal opened the scoring with just 14 minutes on the clock.

The Chilean latched on to a fabulous chip over the defence from Paul Pogba and showed remarkable composure to poke the ball underneath goalkeeper Federico Marchetti. And, 12 minutes later, Vidal had his second courtesy of a cool side-footed finish after Leonardo Bonucci had surged out of the Juventus defence to play his team-mate through on goal.

Lazio had, in truth, played a more prominent role in the game than the scoreline suggested, and so there was a sense of justice when Klose got on the scoresheet two minutes after Vidal's second. The striker was the quickest to react to a rebound from a Hernanes effort and slotted expertly beyond Buffon to bring his team back into the game.

The goalmouth action cooled somewhat after that goal, though Lazio went close on two occasions as Antonio Candreva's free-kick whistled past the post and Buffon had to be alert to keep out Hernanes' drive.Lazio ended the first half undoubtedly on top, but just four minutes after the restart the hosts' two-goal advantage was restored.

Bonucci again provided the assist, chipping a long pass from the back into the path of Vucinic, who held off his man expertly on the turn before poking past Marchetti.
And Lazio's task would become even more difficult on the hour mark as Hernanes, in a clear show of frustration, attempted to handle a cross from the left into the Juve goal and subsequently saw a deserved second yellow card.Tevez almost rubbed salt in Lazio wounds in the 71st minute, only for his left-footed effort from the edge of the box to come back off the bar.

But the Argentine got his goal soon after, his third in as many games for his new club, as he swept the ball home from distance following an intelligent dummy from Vucinic.

:(Herrera Sr casts doubt on Man United move

    311431_heroa.jpg

The father of Athletic Bilbao star Ander Herrera has revealed that it would be “very difficult” for his son to leave the club amid speculation linking him with Manchester United.

The Basque club confirmed on Friday that they had received an offer from the Red Devils for their 24-year-old playmaker, while Goal understands the Liga club rejected a €30 million offer.

Reports suggested it would take a bid of €36m (£30.75m) to prise Herrera from the Spanish outfit and his father believes it will be hard for him to move to Old Trafford.

Speaking to Mundo Deportivo, Pedro said: "Ander is getting on very well at Athletic, very content. He's fought hard to come to this club and it's very difficult for him to leave.

"I think it's Manchester United's decision, since they have not found a replacement for Cesc Fabregas. They've decided to opt for a creative player and have thought about Ander."

United manager David Moyes said in his Friday press conference that he expected the club to be “very busy” in the final days of the transfer window.

:baffled:David Moyes eyes five midfielders for Manchester United

    22126.jpg

MANCHESTER UNITED are trying to clinch a loan deal for Roma’s Daniele De Rossi before the transfer window closes tomorrow night.

The Italy star is one of FIVE midfielders being eyed by United boss David Moyes and he hopes to land at least one and possibly two before the deadline. In addition to De Rossi, 30, Borussia Dortmund’s £20 million-rated German international Ilkay Gundogan, 22, is a new target.Significantly, Dortmund are interested in re-signing their former midfielder from United - Shinji Kagawa - creating the possibility of a swop deal.

Moyes is also again considering Real Madrid’s former Tottenham playmaker Luka Modric, who could be released with Gareth Bale finally arriving at The Bernabeu from Spurs. Then there is Athletic Bilbao’s Ander Herrera, 24, who the Basque club claim will only be allowed to leave for his £30 million buy-out clause.

And, of course, the other midfielder on Moyes’ list is Everton’s Marouane Fellaini. The United boss has been trying to raid his old club for Fellaini and left back Leighton Baines, with Everton holding out for a combined fee of £40 million.

This is the list of midfielders drawn up by United after the failure to land Cesc Fabregas from Barcelona.De Rossi, who has 91 caps for Italy, is ready to quit Roma after 13 years at the club.He was a target for Manchester City when Roberto Mancini was manager and also interests Fiorentina.

There have been claims that United’s move for him had collapsed, but they are now trying to agree a loan deal.
