A few things make complete sense and fans are totally misisng it.
1) Deb gets thrown in the ocean because Dexter considers her his victim. If it weren’t for Dexter, Deb would be alive, so this makes complete sense.
2) When Dexter hands Hannah his backpack to take with her, he mentions it has “the essentials.” Of course she’s well-equipped. Not random.
3) Deb’s inevitable death provoked Dexter to reveal he is in fact a killer. Quinn and Batista and everyone else you can assume now knows he’s killed. It comes full circle.
I didn’t think the finale was that great but I understand the major symbolism they were trying to pull off. Think about it.
