Ancelotti: Di Maria will not leave Real Madrid

    348236_heroa.jpg

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has unequivocally stated that he has not intention of selling Angel Di Maria - despite substituting the winger in Saturday's Copa del Rey draw with Olimpic Xativa.

It has been claimed that the winger has growing increasingly frustrated by the intense competition for places at the Santiago Bernabeu and is now considering moving to Monaco in order to boost his chances of representing Argentina at the 2014 World Cup.

But Ancelotti categorically denied the 25-year-old is heading for the exit door, insisting the decision to replace him with Karim Benzema was because of a minor injury concern - and not any dissatisfaction with Di Maria's display.

"He told me he felt discomfort so I told the others to warm up and, after that, I introduced Benzema," Ancelotti explained after the match.

"But he has not talked about his future. He is happy here and he will not leave Real Madrid."

Madrid looked toothless in attack without Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale on the artificial turf of La Murta, but Ancelotti was unconcerned with his side's inability to find a breakthrough.

"I do not mind not having scored," the former Chelsea boss insisted. "This team makes a lot of chances and scores a lot, so we'll try to score in the next game.

"I'm satisfied. [Alvaro] Morata worked well for the team, had chances but could not score. Our opponents defended well, and it was clear we were not used to the [artificial] grass."

Manchester City set to offer Nasri two-year extension

    346165_heroa.jpg

Manchester City will offer Samir Nasri a two-year contract extension worth €180,000-a-week in the New Year.

The Frenchman has been in good form in recent weeks, prompting the Premier League outfit's sporting director Txiki Begiristain and coach Manuel Pellegrini to evaluate the attacking midfielder's current deal, which has two years remaining.

Nasri will remain on his current terms with a new contract that will tie him to the club until 2017.

The Bleus ace is happy at the Etihad Stadium and has seen his influence grow this season under Pellegrini, bagging three goals in a week at the end of November and beginning of this month.

He had suffered a dip in form last season under Roberto Mancini, as the pair shared a strained relationship during the Italian's final months in Manchester, and Nasri admitted last month that he had been performing poorly.
"Everything he [Mancini] was saying was difficult for me to accept," he told reporters. "It wasn’t his fault; it was just me because I wasn’t in a good place.

"I wasn’t feeling myself. It was a tough season. After the European Championship and a beef with the French journalists, for months I refused to speak to anybody and had a lot of bad press in France and I wasn’t involved in the national team.

"It was a little difficult. In my head, I wasn’t the same. I didn’t play well for City and lost my spot in the squad and, at the end of the year, you look at your season and you realise, ‘I was not myself'."

Nasri played the full 90 minutes for City as they drew 1-1 away to Southampton on Saturday.

:(Klopp downbeat after Sahin & Bender injuries: We need miracles

    348257_heroa.jpg

Jurgen Klopp was devastated after both Nuri Sahin and Sven Bender limped off in Borussia Dortmund's 1-0 home loss to Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday.

Son Heung-Min struck the only goal of the game at Signal Iduna Park after just 18 minutes of play, as BVB fell 10 points behind Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich, but the second-half withdrawal of two key players was arguably even more concerning, with Wednesday's must-win Champions League clash with Olympique de Marseille in mind.

"Today is Saturday and while miracles do happen, they just haven't happened for us recently," Klopp told reporters. "We are now waiting for the diagnosis before next Wednesday's game.

"This is not an easy phase for us. The injuries do not look good. Given that two of our players are injured, possibly gravely so, it will make our next few games tricky."

Turning his attention to the game itself, Klopp was not impressed with his side's performance against their second-placed opponent.

"If you want to beat Leverkusen, you have to be really good - and we were not," he stated. "Although we started well, they defended well and forced us to play long balls.

"We were too passive and lacked the final ball. We raised our game in the second half, but were not as good as we can be."

Tottenham back on track, says Villas-Boas after Sunderland win

    348155_heroa.jpg

Andre Villas-Boas believes Tottenham are back on track in the Premier League following Saturday's 2-1 victory over Sunderland on Saturday.

After a run of four Premier League games without a win, which included a 6-0 defeat at Manchester City, Spurs followed up their midweek success at Fulham with a win at the Stadium of Light to move to within three points of second place.

“Our group has been immense in the situation we have faced,” Villas-Boas told reporters after the game.

“We got ourselves back on track, into a position where we can challenge for the top.

“This is a credit to them: it is their sweat on the pitch and they’ve been fantastic in the way they’ve approached this game in wanting to play for the badge.

“It [the defeat at Manchester City] was a result that left us ashamed and this completes our fight back into the season.”

Paulinho's strike and John O'Shea's own goal overturned Adam Johnson's opener to secure Tottenham's eighth win in the Premier League this term, however, the visitors were fortunate not to concede a penalty late on after Sandro handled in the area.

When asked if Sunderland should have been awarded a spot-kick, Villas-Boas replied: “I think so.

“I haven’t seen the incident but I’ve heard it is a penalty. It will be difficult for Gus [Poyet] to accept.”

Poyet, meanwhile, expressed his concern of his side’s second-half performance as Sunderland remain five points from safety at the bottom of the table.

“We conceded at the wrong times. I don't want to say a bad word on the second half but it wasn't good enough," said the Uruguayan.

“We don’t do the basics for 94 minutes week in, week out; there is always something missing.

“I’m not going to say that [being denied a penalty cose them the game] because even if we get it, we would probably still lose, 5-2, 6-2.

“The way we are performing at the moment we would probably even miss the penalty.”

We're in trouble' - Mourinho rues Chelsea profligacy aftet Stoke setback

    348122_heroa.jpg

Jose Mourinho says his Chelsea side are “in trouble” after suffering a 3-2 defeat against Stoke City on Saturday, while he also called on his side to find their killer instinct in front of goal.

Andre Schurrle netted twice for the profligate visitors, but the Potters claimed all three points thanks to Oussama Assaidi's stunning 90th-minute strike.

The defeat means Chelsea remain points adrift of Premier League leaders Arsenal, who face Everton on Sunday, and Mourinho blasted his side's failure to convert their pressure into a win.

“I don’t feel comfortable enough to tell you what I think about the game,” the Portuguese fumed. “We’re in trouble.

“After 30 minutes we should have been winning 3-0 or 4-0 but we weren’t. When you play so well and it is so easy you find spaces, and when the three players behind the strikers were playing so well, you have to kill the game, and we didn't.

“We played amazingly well at the beginning of the game, [Juan] Mata, [Eden] Hazard and Schurrle played very, very, well.

“But we didn't score enough goals and, on top of that you make defensive mistakes and you concede.

“I think this team is a team that has to score goals; has to capitalise on the production and the way we are playing, because we are not a physical team.

“We are not a team with the conditions to defend against physical teams, so I think we have to score when we have the game in our hands.”

Despite this latest setback, Mourinho is impressed with the mentality of his team, although he accepted that their performance in the closing stages was below par.

“The team wants to attack, the team wants to have the ball and the initiative,” the former Real Madrid boss argued.

“In the last part of the game we didn't play well, because we started playing in a way they (Stoke) can control.”

Mark Hughes, meanwhile, was thrilled with his side's display and hopes the Potters can build on the result as they bid to pull away from the relegation zone.

“I thought it was a fantastic game. I felt from start to finish we put in a real performance,” said the Welsh boss.

“We had to recover very quickly from going behind and thought we showed real character and stuck at it after Chelsea give us a bit of a run around in the first half.

“We’ve set our own standards today and we need to maintain it and if we can we’ll be a very tough side to overcome.”

'I am back' - Ribery revels in Bayern Munich return

    348156_heroa.jpg

Franck Ribery was understandably a happy man after making a goalscoring return to action in Bayern Munich's 7-0 demolition of Werder Bremen on Saturday.

The France international was back in the Bavarians' line-up for the first time since suffering a rib injury in his country's World Cup play-off win over Ukraine in Paris last month and he made his presence felt, netting twice and racking up two assists in a resounding away win.

"I am back," Ribery told reporters after a horribly one-sided encounter at Weserstadion. "I am glad that I managed a game.

"It was great to be back from the start on the pitch. The pain in the rib is as good as gone, so I could play freely."

Bayern opened the scoring 21 minutes in courtesy of an own goal from Assani Lukimya-Mulongoti and never looked back, with Daniel van Buyten, Mario Mandzukic, Thomas Muller and Mario Gotze also on target as Pep Guardiola's men extended the club's unbeaten domestic run to 40 games.

Ribery admitted afterwards that he cannot believe his good fortune that he is getting to play in such a powerful and exciting side.

"It was another good game by the team," the winger enthused. "With this team, it's just great fun.

"But we must continue to play as well against [Manchester] City on Tuesday."

Bayern will be bidding for the 11th successive win in the Champions League when they welcome the English outfit to the Allianz Arena for their final game of the group stage.

Monaco 1-0 Ajaccio: Riviere fires Ranieri's men second

    348679hp2.jpg

Monaco moved above Lille up to second in Ligue 1 after they squeezed past Ajaccio 1-0 at the Stade Louis II on Sunday.

Claudio Ranieri's moved to within two points of league leaders Paris Saint-Germain as Emmanuel Riviere grabbed the only goal of the game, connecting with Andrea Raggi's cut-back to smash home from close range in the second half.

The hosts had a number of chances early on but the heroics of Ajaccio keeper Francisco Guillermo Ochoa ensured the game remained goalless as he denied Jeremy Toulalan and Riviere.

Ricardo Carvalho was then thwarted in the second period as he rose to meet Joao Moutinho's corner as it began to look as though the visitors could get something out of the game.

Ajaccio's job of keeping their opponents at bay got even tougher after captain Jean-Baptiste Pierazzi was sent off for a second bookable offence and, with the extra man advantage, les Rouge et Blanc finally made their pressure count when Riviere finished from inside the six-yard box.

James Rodriguez almost doubled the home side's advantage late on but his free kick struck the post as Monaco were made to settle for a slender - but crucial - victory.

Inter 3-3 Parma: Sansone rescues point in Giuseppe Meazza thriller

    348644hp2.jpg

Nicola Sansone scored twice to seal a point for Parma in a thrilling 3-3 draw with Inter at Giuseppe Meazza on Sunday.

The striker scored in the first half before Rodrigo Palacio equalised just before half-time, only for Marco Parolo to restore the visitors' lead a minute later.

Palacio and Fredy Guarin turned the game on its head early in the second period but Sansone added his second - and the third goal in five minutes - to ensure the spoils were shared.

Having accused his side of delivering their worst performance of the season in a 1-1 draw at home to Sampdoria last time out, Inter coach Walter Mazzarri made two alterations, with Andrea Ranocchia and Mateo Kovacic coming in for Rolando and Saphir Taider.

Parma made only one change to the team that drew with Bologna eight days before as former Inter man Walter Gargano came in for Afriyie Acquah, but they swapped over again in the first quarter of the match as the injured Uruguayan was forced off.

The visitors impressed early on and after Gabriel Paletta squandered a chance, Sansone made no mistake in the 11th minute.

Marco Marchionni fed Sansone and the forward confidently slotted the ball into the bottom-left corner for his first goal in Serie A this season.

Palacio and Sansone should each have scored for their respective sides as the first half went on, but the Argentine did eventually bring Inter level in the 44th minute.

Jonathan fired a fierce cross into the six-yard box and the attacker poked home, but the hosts were behind again before half-time as Handanovic dropped a Paletta shot to leave Parolo the simple task of knocking into an empty net.

The opening stages of the second half were rather low-key, but the game soon exploded into life again as Inter scored twice in three minutes.

Palacio headed in Ricky Alvarez's 54th minute cross, while Guarin saw a left-footed half-volley from the edge of the area deflect past Antonio Mirante.

Donadoni's men were soon back on level terms again as Mattia Cassani produced a fine low cross from the right and Sansone held off Esteban Cambiasso to score his second.

After a brief lull in proceedings, Palacio went close to completing his hat-trick in the 72nd minute as he headed Yuto Nagatomo's left-wing cross at Mirante, and Kovacic drilled just wide from long-range.

Parma optimistically enquired about a penalty decision in the 86th minute as Sansone's shot smashed against Hugo Campagnaro's arm amid a spell of pressure, but Inter held on and almost snatched an injury-time winner when Cambiasso shot straight at Mirante.

Inter remain fourth in the table following the draw, while Parma move into 10th, level on points with Cagliari.

Arsenal 1-1 Everton: Late Deulofeu stunner pegs Gunners back

    348547hp2.jpg

Arsenal extended their lead at the top of the Premier League to five points despite being held to a draw by an impressive Everton side.

Gerard Deulofeu struck late to cancel out Mesut Ozil's 80th-minute opener and ensure Roberto Martinez's men return to Merseyside with a deserved point.

Tim Howard had made good saves to deny Olivier Giroud and Aaron Ramsey in the first half but Arsenal found clear chances hard to come by after the break, until both sides played their part in the late drama.

Giroud and Jack Wilshere returned to Arsenal's starting XI, while ex-Everton midfielder Mikel Arteta and Kieran Gibbs also came in.

Everton were unchanged and carried on where they had left off against Manchester United on Wednesday, dominating the early stages with their short, sharp passing.

For all Everton's superiority, they did not muster a clear-cut chance, with Ross Barkley, Sylvain Distin and Kevin Mirallas all failing to hit the target from their side's most promising forays forward.

Kieran Gibbs came agonisingly close to connecting with a teasing Santi Cazorla cross at the other end in the 27th minute.

Arsenal finally awoke from their slumber in the final five minutes of the first half, and Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard was forced to rush off his line to initially save from Giroud before also denying Ramsey.

The second half saw far more chances on goal, with Cazorla first to go close when he headed straight at Howard after a clever Wilshere flick.

Steven Pienaar - set free by a Barkley backheel - then forced Szczesny into a flying save, before an acrobatic Ramsey volley, that looked to be creeping in, was kept out by Howard.

Barkley shot at Szczesny as the final 20 minutes approached, while Arsenal manager Wenger opted to make a triple substitution, introducing Theo Walcott, Tomas Rosicky and Mathieu Flamini as he went for victory.

Flamini almost had an immediate impact, shooting just wide, before Mirallas and Distin went close for Everton.

Ozil gave Arsenal the lead when he converted a Walcott knockdown from a Rosicky cross, but the hosts were in front for just four minutes as Barkley's run and Bryan Oviedo's cross set up Deulofeu, who produced a powerful finish.

Flamini and Romelu Lukaku had late chances before Giroud struck the crossbar with a sensational strike at the death, but the two sides could not be separated.
