Sri Lankan voters reject two young actresses turned politicians at Southern Provincial Council polls

Two popular young actresses turned politicians who contested for the Southern Provincial Council in Sri Lanka have failed to secure seats in the Council.

The two actresses Anarkali Akarsha and Nadeesha Hemamali have failed to secure seats in the Southern Provincial Council.

Akarsha contested from the ruling United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) for the Matara District while Hemamali contested from the United National Party (UNP) for the Matara district.

Akarsha is reportedly placed 18th in the governing party Matara District list while Hemamali is 11th in the UNP list after polling 8,842 and 11,006 votes respectively.

Akarsha in 2009 entered the Southern Provincial Council from the Galle District.
