you should have minimum qualification of OLs and ALs then you should ve the eligibility of passing aviation medical test which is conducted by civil aviation authority of SL. you can check out more information on their official web site or you can visit their office in close to gangarama temple.
right , if you wanna be a commercial pilot licence,
you have to find a privet aviation school in your home or overseas.. you might need some reasonable amount of money for this i cant exactly say the cost beacuse you can find many aviation acadamies in different price ranges. i prefer you to go for the best school which offers more flying hours.
1st thing you ve to get your first licence , its called PPL personal pilot licence its about 50 flying hours i guess.
you ll ve to pass the both written and practical exams to receive silver wing/ppl licence.
then after you ve the capable of applying to Commercial pilot licence i think its almost 150 flying hours both single and multi engine aircraft.
then you have the same thing ,you did for ppl written and practical exams.
after all you will be received the gold wing/ppl licence.
now all you need to do is building up your flying hours. you need at least 275 flying hour for applying for your national airline in srilanka.
note- if you would do your licence in US #we call that FAA licence#you will ve to do all the exams in srilanka whichs conducted by civil aviation authority of sl. if you would do this on Uk or SL you dont need to do that exams again.

being a fighter pilot is totally different from the job you do as a CPL pilot , you ve technically advanced, high maneuverable machines , and also you will be trained to eject form the cockpit in a crash. with that type of mind you wont be allowed to being commercial pilot. you ve only traind for military perpose but in SL most of the airforce pilots join with commercial airlines after 15years of bond with SLAF.
but if you would choose transport or passenger aircraft to fly in your airforce career it doesnt matter at all.
my congratulations for your flying career!!!

most of the things virajintel has noted are correct. other than some small stuff refering to the SLAF.

this is a very specific very expensive line of profession. i mean in SL it is very difficult to get in to this field and when in it is very easy to fall out but if it very rewarding.

you will be spending something around 60 lacks to get your PPL here. if i remember right. and all other consecutive stuff that you have to do are expensive as well.

bro, if you or you family doesnt have serious money to spend on this, don't try. coz if you fail you will be lost. there are so many possibilites to fail in this. the main reason will be you physical fitness and PQ (pilot Qualification) for example think that after completing all the requirements, if you for some reason become color blind you will lose you license (just an example)

if your are thinking of getting to this field through AF, thats a more resonable and safe option. but keep in mind even though the bond is 15 years, you will never be allowed to leave the AF in that time unless you are grounded.in that case not PPL as well. mostly AF officers can leave after they complet 20 years. even in the AF you have to complete all the necessary flying Hrs and do all the exams as well to get your PPL, CPL ATPL ....

even with that you have to get out of the AF to join a carrier. there are bunch of commercial pilots who are AF veterans. they like to get those guys coz they have way more experience compared to civilians having passes exams and courses. but the main thing is the time you have to spend in the AF.

sorry for the being delayed malli, i just saw the thread and i was quite busy. im a flight vehicle designing undergraduate student. my career is quite different from piloting but i ve rough idea about the question thats been asked by you. to become pilot is not easy as it appears , but its not that hard. you explore this. of course you should ve capable of fulfilling your financial needs. i ve no idea about educational loans and other stuffs in SL. you must find a possible way! you dont need to spend total amount of money at once you can pay it in 3-4 or more installments. dont be panic! dont depend on my ideas. you explore this by your self! my pleasure to help you!

  • no macho u cant..
but i dont recon these local aviation institutes also..
if u can spend some more go abroad..
    and learn from there.
coz u can learn from here (about the new technology)
but would u be able to touch one of that in SL bro..
    (only through simulators)
but the real thing is far different from those things..
so better go for a good school
@ those days 2004 local license courses were 14-20 lks

but i got to know we can obtain our liecence over there for free in return we have to give 10 years of service

Yes you can be. But for that you need to become transport pilot in SLAF. Which is extreemly hard thing to do if you do not have connections.

Or else you can become a fighter pilot then you have to do a commercial pilot course.

Do not become SLAF helicopter pilot if you want to follow a commercial pilot cource. It is hard to convert back from being a helicopter pilot and needs extensive training.
