Do you know the difference between CS and IT?..

Believe me I know the difference between, Engineering, Science and IT.

But Sri Lankan IT companies do not care whether people got an Engineering degree or not. If someones analytical skills are good and if he can code, he will be assigned to the post of an Engineer who actually is a developer. Most of the IT companies(Except well planed and funded start-ups) do not seek for real Engineers who can do the designing work and produce an Engineered solution. The are looking for good programmers and managers with good IT knowledge.

80% of the time true,

but there are companies where your Engineering + CS knowledge is required in SL... Where you need the very fundamentals of CS + Eng..

Compiler and Automata
Operating Systems
FPGA
Time Complexity
etc...

but as you said earlier to do some java, php coding kind of a job, basic IT degree is enough..

As i know really hard to get selected, and they recruit only Mora CSE and UCSC CS Graduates or Top students from other institutes.
Few years ago they don't even call for interview if you do not have First Class.
Few years ago one of my batch mate worked there (He was best coder in our batch) and later he moved to MIT.

IT and CS can't compare

I agree with you Bro....it and CS are different ..IT degrees are originally design for network and system administration purpose...It dosen't mean that you can't be a programmer by doing it...

CS/CSE majorly concentrate about theoretical knowledge...

*Lots of DSA modules.. (With advance DSA)
*theoretical computer science theory's (compiler construction etc)
*Lots of Pure Mathematics (depend on degree) to give higher problem solving skills...
Actually i am also doing it (SLIIT)...i know the different well..In industry

CS/CSE > IT

But most important thing is your skill...if you have the skill..even you are from IT background..it won't an issue...
