'Martial is a future Manchester United captain'

    anthony-martial-monaco_1c73qmq1bs4k71bqvdg8akh2yo.jpg

Anthony Martial is destined to become captain of Manchester United, his brother Dorian says.

The 19-year-old joined Louis van Gaal's team for a massive £58 million fee from Monaco on transfer deadline day.

However, his brother insists he is worth the heavy investment from the Red Devils and believes he will go on to wear the captain's armband for club and country in the near future.

“Anthony has all the qualities needed to be Manchester United and France captain," Dorian told The Sun. "He has always been a natural leader in a team — he’s been like that since he was six.

“My little brother isn’t someone who will shout at all the players around him. He doesn’t need to because he speaks with his incredible skills.

“Anthony is a talisman and has the ego and personality on the pitch to be a captain of Manchester United and even France.

"Of course, not right now — because he is just 19 — but definitely in the future. He comes from a club that has produced two France captains.

“Patrice Evra went on to be United skipper while Thierry Henry had the armband at Arsenal. It’s in the DNA here because players are well educated. They’re taught to be responsible but also respectful.

“The fee is a lot of money but Anthony will not worry. He doesn’t know the meaning of the word ‘Pressure.’"

Dorian also recalled how his brother had always shown a desire to play for United, having been a big admirer of Evra and Ryan Giggs.

“Anthony grew up watching players like Ryan Giggs, Rooney and Patrice on TV. And I remember him once saying, ‘Wow, why not me one day?’ He loved United’s attacking style of football.

“Being in a team of superstars will not faze him. He will be no different playing for United as he was playing with his friends as a child.”

Martial used to play for part-time team CO Les Ulis, who produced the likes of Evra, Henry and Yaya Sanogo and the club's former technical director, Mamadou Niakate, says Martial's talent was obvious from a young age.

“You could see he had already surpassed the other kids in terms of skill and speed," he said. "He was a serious talent and knew what he wanted even then.

“Anthony was determined and hard-working. He had this real hate of losing, almost a fear. It would eat him up, he’d be angry and become isolated.

“Thierry was the same. He had that same trait, the same behaviour, the same speed, quality and will to win. That is what separates them from the rest.”

Messi needs Cristiano Ronaldo, says Kluivert

    lionel-messi-cristiano-ronaldo_1c1lshvfv4sja1fwf60r4pc2ua.jpg

Barcelona icon Patrick Kluivert believes Lionel Messi “needs” a rival like Cristiano Ronaldo to bring the best out of him.

The Argentine has rocketed back to his best form in 2015, winning the Champions League, La Liga and Copa del Rey in a euphoric season at Camp Nou.Messi's performances have seen him installed as heavy favourite to win January's Ballon d'Or, which Real Madrid's Ronaldo has won the previous two years.

Their status as the two best players in the world playing for Spanish arch-rivals has elevated their rivalry – something that former Barca forward Kluivert thinks has been essential for Messi's successes.

"Messi is in a different dimension with his football, but I also think he urgently needs someone like Cristiano Ronaldo," the 39-year-old told Voetbal Zone.
"He needs someone who gives him an incentive to go for it every game, to see each match as a challenge. Both players are world class and a level above the rest.

"At Barcelona, now there is only one central player: Messi. During my time, there were several important players there, though on the other hand Messi's nothing without his team-mates."

Kluivert currently coaches Caribbean nation Curacao (ranked 148th in the world) but suggested he has eyes for Luis Enrique's current job at Camp Nou, where he played between 1998 and 2004.

"Of course, it's my dream to be coach of Barcelona," the Dutchman added. "Yes, I know it is certainly a possibility which is far away, but who knows what might happen."Luis Enrique was a leader on the field in our playing days and always crazy about football. These two features – leadership and passion – ensure he's a top trainer. It makes sense he's done well."

Curacao lost 1-0 in the home leg of their latest World Cup 2018 qualifier against El Salvador and will need to win Tuesday's return leg to have any chance of reaching the fourth round of Concacaf qualification.

Benzema: There's nothing in Arsenal or Man Utd talk

    karim-benzema-france_ukpuoev0tgq618kwtq59kq64i.jpg

Karim Benzema has insisted he is not considering leaving Real Madrid following weeks of speculation that Arsenal and Manchester United wanted to buy him.

The France international, 27, was heavily linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium this summer, while Real Madrid chief Florentino Perez also revealed Louis van Gaal wanted him at Old Trafford.

Benzema recently pledged his commitment to Madrid amid all the rumours of a Premier League move and he has reiterated that leaving the Santiago Bernabeu is not his intention.

"There was nothing in the talk of a transfer away from Madrid," he told Telefoot. "I'm happy at my current club, it's the best in the world. I'll continue to work here and be happy where I am."

The former Lyon forward – who has been with the Blancos since 2009 – also discussed his latest cap for France in their 1-0 win over Portugal, claiming he remains rusty as he recovers from a series of minor injuries.

"It's been like four months since I played properly," he added. "I've played a little bit for Madrid, but that's all. I'm working little by little to be back in shape."

Benzema was replaced in Friday's friendly win by new United signing and France debutant Anthony Martial, whose late transfer from Monaco - which could cost as much as £59 million - hit headlines around the world.

Lavezzi: This is my last year at PSG

    ezequiel-lavezzi-galeria_suahmzjszh1u1ds59q5e9ux11.jpg

Ezequiel Lavezzi is expecting to leave Paris Saint-Germain when his contract expires at the end of the season.

The Argentina attacker was linked with Juventus during the summer but a move away from the Ligue 1 champions never materalised.

Lavezzi says he would be happy to remain at Parc des Princes but is determined to make the most of what he thinks may well be his final season at the club.

"The truth is I want to stay because I have a lot of faith in the team," he told Telefoot. "This year we brought in players that really reinforced the team.

"I'm very happy for new signing Angel Di Maria, it's always good to play with your friends. He is a great player, I hope he adapts quickly.

"I think it's my last year in Paris. But I'm okay and I want to finish it the best way possible. You never know what can happen. Today I want to stay, tomorrow we'll see."
