    Vidal unhappy with Eintracht's tactics

    arturovidal-cropped_11b1jtuzsifvx1qr4lkl08jbeh.jpg

Bayern Munich midfielder Arturo Vidal was unhappy with Eintracht Frankfurt's negative approach after his side were held to a 0-0 draw.

For the first time this Bundesliga season, Pep Guardiola's side failed to win as their 10-match winning streak to start the league campaign was ended.

Vidal criticised Eintracht for what he believed were negative tactics in pushing numbers behind the ball.

"It was very hard work today. Frankfurt pulled all 11 men back to the edge of their own box. This is not football," he said.

"That makes it almost impossible for any team to score.

"We controlled the play and we worked well together as a team. All that was missing was a goal.

"We’re obviously disappointed with the draw. We need to keep on working if we’re to hit our targets."

Despite the draw, Bayern sit eight points clear at the top, although that lead will be cut to five if Borussia Dortmund beat Werder Bremen on Saturday.

Nedved: Juve president Agnelli 'furious' with defeat

    andrea-agnelli-pavel-nedved-borussia-dortmund-juventus-turin-champions-league-18032015_18e68eh1gai5a1ewayvhuawmng.jpg

Pavel Nedved has revealed president Andrea Agnelli’s fury after Juventus’s 1-0 Serie A defeat to Sassuolo.

Juve’s terrible start to the season worsened on Wednesday after they were beaten for the fourth time in 10 league matches to fall into the bottom half of the table.

Nedved, who took up a directoral role with the club following his 2009 retirement, is now the club’s vice-president and. despite missing the clash in Modena due to commitments in his homeland, says he was kept updated by the “furious” Agnelli.

"On Wednesday I was supposed to be at the stadium because it was a particularly important game for us,” the 43-year-old told Czech newspaper Sport .

"President Agnelli was in the United States and also disappointed he couldn’t be at the match. During the ceremony I kept my phone switched off, but when I turned it back on, bad messages started arriving.

"I was checking the minute by minute action and read ‘1-0 to Sassuolo, Chiellini sent off.’ It was half-time and I was on the verge of a coronary.

"I spoke to Agnelli until 1am, as I was in Prague and he was in the United States. He was truly infuriated by how things had gone. It had been a long time since I’d heard him so furious.

"We are 14th in the table and that doesn’t happen often. We are all terribly disappointed. Naturally I was also in contact with (director Beppe) Marotta, who was at the game, and he filled me in on all the details.

"It’s an ugly situation, we’ve got to do something to get back to winning ways. We were convinced that we were back (on form), then received this punch in>

'Messi is irreplaceable, we'll try to take advantage of his absence'

    lionelmessi-cropped_1hi324tttie2y1706qg8dpmmt3.jpg

Getafe midfielder Angel Lafita hopes his team can take advantage of the absence of Lionel Messi when they host Barcelona in La Liga on Saturday.

Lafita already knows what it means to frustrate Barca, having been part of the Zaragoza side that regularly upset the Blaugrana in the Frank Rijkaard era and also the scorer of both goals when the Madrid team secured a shock 2-2 draw at Camp Nou in 2013-14.

This time, Barca will be without Messi, who has saved some of his very best moments for games against Getafe - including the wonder goal he netted with a run from inside his own half in 2007.

"He's the best player in the world," Lafita told Goal in an exclusive interview. "And if we can avoid facing him, all the better because he can be decisive from any position on the pitch.

"It's true that Barcelona can bring in other quality players but the plus that Messi gives the team can't be provided by any other player - even though Neymar and [Luis] Suarez have taken the reins in his absence."

And he added: "We will try to take advantage, playing together and without conceding any space in the centre. We'll let them attack on the wing and we'll attack on the break. Playing that way we were able to draw 0-0 last season, while two years ago we claimed a very valuable point at Camp Nou.

"There is never a good day to face Barcelona, but maybe without Messi and [Javier] Mascherano it is a better time than most."

Messi makes Barcelona the best - Bravo

    lionel-messi-cropped_1r0tm9l7a0kbo141h3ghfzqycd.jpg

Lionel Messi makes Barcelona the best football team in the world, according to Claudio Bravo.

Argentina captain Messi has been sidelined with a knee injury since Barca's 2-1 win over Las Palmas last month.

Goalkeeper Bravo accepts that Messi remains the key to Luis Enrique's side but has praised Luis Suarez and Neymar for their form during his absence.

"Leo is a unique player, he gives us a bit extra compared to any other major club," he told Mundo Deportivo.

"He's impossible to replace, but we have other players who have that kind of ability, like Luis and Ney, who are doing amazingly well.

"They make you feel calm. When you reach a big moment you know they're going to stand up for the team.

"I knew from the first moment he [Suarez] was eager to succeed. He's a natural goalscorer and he opens up a lot of games with his ability.

"We're all very clear on our roles and Ney, at a young age, has a lot of experience and influence. He takes that responsibility and it's good for the team."

Bravo continues to be rotated with Marc-Andre ter Stegen in the Barca starting XI but the Chile international denied he is unhappy at missing out on the majority of Champions League matches.

"It's not my job to say whether I want to play in the league, (or) the Champions League. My job is to be ready to play," he said.

"I want to compete in all competitions but it is up to the coach to decide who plays in each one. We all work to do what we're asked.

"It would be crazy to say I'm unhappy at the best club in the world. I'm happier than ever."

Thiago Silva: PSG can do something great in Madrid

    thiago-silva-cropped_10f4xft0rf49h19o8rj58lzww6.jpg

Thiago Silva has backed Paris Saint-Germain to do "something great" when they face Real Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday.

The French champions moved temporarily 10 points clear at the top of Ligue 1 with a 1-0 win over Rennes on Friday, with Angel Di Maria's second-half strike enough for Laurent Blanc's much-changed side.

Having played out a 0-0 draw with Madrid in Paris earlier this month, Thiago Silva has backed his side to go one better at the Santiago Bernabeu if they can improve on their performance against Rennes.

"Winning was the most important thing, even if we did not have a very good game," he said.
"We will reflect on what there is to do better, because we have the chance to do something in Madrid.

"We have a lot of respect for this team, but we can do something great there. Even players who aren't used to playing had a good game [on Friday]."

Midfielder Blaise Matuidi believes PSG can take confidence from their record-breaking start to the Ligue 1 season as they prepare to meet Rafael Benitez's side.

"We managed to play with a different team," he said.
"We didn't have a lot of chances, but we managed with what we had.

"Today we have 32 points from 36. We can always do better, but we're happy. It really is a very good start to the season.

"We are happy, we know that this Tuesday will be another game. It will be a tough game, but this was good preparation. It's always good for confidence. We did not concede opportunities.

"Winning was most important but we know it will be a different game in Madrid."

Mihajlovic: We could lose to Lazio

    sinisa-mihajlovic-cropped_xs8wx95m49z12r4zz78khnog.jpg

Sinisa Mihajlovic has admitted AC Milan could very well lose Sunday's Serie A match against Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico.

The Milan coach feels his side are often favourites, yet believes Lazio are one a number of teams that are on equal footing.

"As I often say, there are 13 teams in the league against which we start as the favourites," he said.

"Then, there are another five or six teams where it's all to play for. One of these is Lazio. The others are Juve, Roma, Inter, Fiorentina and Napoli.

"In those matches, you can win, lose or draw and it depends on a host of factors. Should we win, it would be a big confidence boost. When you lose, it’s never nice. But it's easier to accept a defeat against a side like Lazio than a team of a lower quality.

"We're going to Rome to try and win. We know Lazio have problems on the road, but at home, they have won all eight home games. To come away with a win, we need to give our best performance of the season.

"I have confidence in my players and we have the ability to beat Lazio. We will go there to try and impose our game and win. They have weak points. Mentally we're stronger after a three-match unbeaten run and we want to extend our unbeaten streak."

Milan sit eighth in the Serie A table heading into Sunday's encounter, with 16 points from 10 games, while Lazio are two points and two places better off.

Manchester United made me the player I am now - Cristiano Ronaldo

    cristiano-ronaldo-cropped_1mlugrmnvlkd71rhrtnf83de8e.jpg

Cristiano Ronaldo has insisted his time at Manchester United played a huge role in his development.

The Portugal international joined United from Sporting CP in 2003 and matured into one of the best players in the world at Old Trafford.

Ronaldo, who eventually left United for Real Madrid in 2009, has now revealed that the guidance of players such as Paul Scholes, Gary Neville and Ryan Giggs helped him become the player he is now.

"Manchester was a huge education for me," Ronaldo told The Times.
"There were guys who always arrived for training one hour early. Scholes and Neville were incredible examples. Neville was the most professional player I saw. This is why these guys played in the top level for 10 years.

"People like Giggsy, too. I learnt from them. I would go to training early, too. I would do exercise, strength, abdominals, core: many things. That example from the older players, I took it.

"Sometimes, you try something different and you say, 'Ooh, if I do that, then the ball is going to do this'. Everything was a lesson for me at that age. [Being at United] taught me to train hard all the time. To eat properly, sleep good, recovery sessions, everything. You have to dedicate yourself 100 per cent."

Ronaldo worked with Alex Ferguson during his time at United and he has nothing but fond memories of his former manager.

"I learnt a lot from Sir Alex, too. One of the terms that I still remember today is 'decision-making'", he signalled.

"'You are great, but you don't have decision-making. Pass the f***ing ball.' He always told me that. 'Cristiano: pass the f***ing ball.'

I still have contact with him. He is a great guy, great coach, great human being."

Chelsea 1-3 Liverpool: Coutinho hits double as Reds pile pressure on Mourinho

    2167792_heroa.jpg

Philippe Coutinho scored twice as Liverpool came from behind to beat Chelsea 3-1 at Stamford Bridge and pile pressure on under-fire manager Jose Mourinho.

A Ramires header gave the Premier League champions the lead after just four minutes, but compatriot Coutinho fired Liverpool level in some style just before half-time.

Oscar came close with a long-range chip, but chances were few and far between in the second half until another Coutinho effort clipped John Terry and flew past Asmir Begovic.

Christian Benteke made sure of the points with a composed finish in the closing minutes as Jurgen Klopp secured his first league win since taking charge of Liverpool.

The result leaves Mourinho feeling the heat as Chelsea slumped to a sixth Premier League defeat of the season at the end of a week in which the holders were also dumped out of the League Cup at Stoke City.

Ramires, who signed a new four-year deal this week, gave Chelsea the perfect start with just four minutes on the clock. Diego Costa's back-heel gave Cesar Azpilicueta time and space to cross from the left of the area, and the Brazil international arrived to power a header across Simon Mignolet and into the bottom corner.

Liverpool responded well, Nathaniel Clyne - their League Cup hero against AFC Bournemouth in midweek - dragging a snapshot wide from 18 yards out before Adam Lallana tested Begovic from close range, as Chelsea showed an improved rearguard resilience against the visitors' possessional dominance.

But they were undone by a moment of brilliance from Coutinho in the dying seconds of the half. The Brazilian twisted away from his countryman Ramires on the edge of the box before curling a brilliant left-foot finish beyond Begovic and into the far corner.

Chances were scarce in the early part of the second half, but Kenedy almost made an immediate impact after replacing Eden Hazard, driving into the area past Clyne before scuffing a shot wide of the near post.

The match developed into a scrappy affair in the central areas and both sides were a little fortunate to escape being reduced to 10 men. Referee Mark Clattenburg failed to spot Costa flick a boot into the midriff of Martin Skrtel after a tangle in the centre-circle and Lucas Leiva escaped a second yellow card after checking a strong run from Ramires through the middle.

Oscar almost lit up Stamford Bridge with a brilliant effort from close to halfway, but a retreating Mignolet reacted well to tip the ball wide of the target, a save that proved pivotal as Liverpool snatched the lead moments later.

Following Benteke's knock-down, Coutinho picked up the loose ball on the edge of the Chelsea box and his right-footed shot took a deflection off Terry and nestled high in Begovic's net.

Alberto Moreno almost made it three barely two minutes later as he surged into the area on the break, but Begovic stuck out a leg to deny him at the near post, and Jordon Ibe's deflected effort after cutting in from the right had the goalkeeper scrambling across goal.

Liverpool did promptly seal the points, however, as substitute Benteke turned into space in the penalty area before slotting a composed finish across Begovic into the bottom corner with just seven minutes to play.

The Chelsea faithful sang their support for Mourinho, but his future at the club appears more uncertain than ever following another costly defeat.

Nothing to say: Mourinho refuses to talk Chelsea future

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho refused to discuss his future after the champions slumped to their sixth Premier League defeat of the season going down 3-1 to Liverpool.

The Portuguese came into the match under pressure after a poor start to the season but saw his side take the lead at Stamford Bridge after Ramires opened the scoring.

However, Jurgen Klopp’s side came from behind to take all three points after Philippe Coutinho scored twice and Christian Benteke added a third, leaving Mourinho in feisty mood after the final whistle

"I have nothing to say. Nothing to say. Nothing to say," he told BT Sport after being asked his views on the match. "I'm so sorry I have nothing to say."
When asked if he was worried about the current situation, Mourinho replied: "Worried about what?" and when pressed further about whether he was concerned about his future at the club he simply answered "No".

Mourinho left Cesc Fabregas on the bench for the game, eventually bringing the Spain international on in the second half, and also hauled off Eden Hazard on the hour mark after another quiet display.

In an awkward interview Mourinho was also asked how he could improve results but again shied away from giving a response adding only: "I cannot say".

Montolivo: AC Milan can send a message to rivals

    riccardomontolivo-cropped_197x74wz2pday17sjxt9woqxwe.jpg

Riccardo Montolivo is confident AC Milan can beat Lazio as he aims to send out a message to the San Siro side's Serie A rivals.

After an underwhelming start to the campaign, Sinisa Mihajlovic's men have picked up seven points from their last three games to climb to eighth place in the table.

As the Rossoneri look to improve on last season's dismal 10th-placed finish, Montolivo is determined to extend their unbeaten run to four games on Sunday and show the rest of the league what they are capable of.

"We want to send a message to the rest of the league and show what we’re capable of," Montolivo said at a news conference.

"We have been solid at the back in the past three matches and therefore we have confidence.

"Lazio have quality players, but we know what is required of us on Sunday."

Milan face a tough task to beat Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico, however, having lost three of their last five Serie A trips to the Roman side, while drawing the remaining two.

They were beaten 3-1 in their last away game against Lazio back in January.

Werder Bremen 1-3 Borussia Dortmund: Reus shines as Tuchel's men close in on Bayern

    marco-reus-borussia-dortmund-german-bundesliga-31102015_1wvzes9jiasqk1n80pr0u7gfpx.jpg

Marco Reus and Henrikh Mkhitaryan ran the show as Borussia Dortmund moved to within five points of Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich with a 3-1 win over Werder Bremen on Saturday.

Champions Bayern dropped points for the first time this season on Friday when they were held to a 0-0 draw by Eintracht Frankfurt, and Dortmund took advantage by registering their third straight league victory.

Reus, aided by a howler from Bremen goalkeeper Felix Wiedwald, opened the scoring after just nine minutes as a confident Dortmund side flew out of the blocks.

To their credit, Bremen responded well to that early setback and drew level in the 31st minute courtesy of Anthony Ujah's fifth Bundesliga goal of the season.

But Thomas Tuchel's men would not be denied, as Mkhitaryan nodded them back into the lead shortly before half-time, and Reus sealed the points 18 minutes from the end with a clinical finish after latching onto a slide-rule Mkhitaryan pass.

Free-scoring Dortmund had netted 17 times in their previous four games, and it did not take them long to get off the mark on Saturday.

Wiedwald made a mess of Mkhitaryan's low cross from the right, with the Bremen keeper diverting the ball into the path of the onrushing Reus, who had the simple task of slotting home his 10th goal of the season.

Bremen warmed to their task, but Dortmund looked typically dangerous on the break and Wiedwald made amends for his earlier error with a fine save from Mkhitaryan after a lightning counter involving Reus and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

However, the hosts drew level just after the half-hour mark through the in-form Ujah.

A slick passing move down the Bremen right ended with Matthias Ginter clearing a Florian Grillitsch effort off the line, but Ujah was on hand to convert his fourth goal in his last three appearances.
Bremen were level for just 12 minutes, though, as Mkhitaryan restored the visitors' lead with a header at the back post from Mats Hummels' perfect curling cross from the outside of his boot.

Aubameyang has been in lethal goalscoring form this season, and the Gabon striker should have extended Dortmund's advantage five minutes after the restart as he collected Mkhitaryan's pass and blazed over from eight yards when it seemed easier to score.

But Reus spared his team-mate's blushes in the 72nd minute.

The outstanding Mkhitaryan slid a perfectly weighted pass into the Germany forward, who fired high beyond the helpless Wiedwald from 15 yards to secure a win that could breathe new life into the Bundesliga title race.

Real Madrid 3-1 Las Palmas: Ronaldo on target in routine win

    2168742_heroa.jpg

Cristiano Ronaldo went joint-top of La Liga's scoring charts following his goal during Real Madrid's 3-1 win over Las Palmas on Saturday.

Los Blancos opened up a three-point lead at the top of the table with a result that never looked in doubt once Isco opened the scoring with a precise left-footed finish in the fourth minute.

Ronaldo then capitalised on slack defending from Las Palmas to meet Marcelo's cross with a diving header, though the visitors halved the deficit from a corner.

Nevertheless, Jese Rodriguez continued his impressive form of late to seal Madrid's win with an excellent drive before the break.

The hosts comfortably defended their lead in the second half as they held on to their unbeaten status, with a stiff test against Paris Saint-Germain to come in the Champions League in midweek.

PSG were sluggish in their win over Rennes in Ligue 1 on Friday, but Madrid dominated right from the start and opened the scoring after just four minutes. Casemiro won the ball after some sloppy build-up play from Las Palmas and set up Isco on the right side of the area, with the attacking midfielder coolly slotting home with his left foot for his first goal of the season.

Things got even worse for Las Palmas in the 14th minute. Marcelo reached Ronaldo with a superb cross from the left and the Portugal international stooped to head past the helpless Javi Varas.

Kiko Casilla was called into action when Jonathan Viera tried his luck from a narrow angle after cutting inside from the left, but the Madrid goalkeeper was equal to it.

Isco nearly doubled his tally after a quick counter-attack down the right. Jese fired in a low cross toward the former Malaga man, but he failed to beat the Las Palmas goalkeeper from close range.

The away side pulled one back five minutes before half-time. Nabil El Zhar sent in a fine corner from the right-hand side and Hernan found the net with a powerful header off the left post.

Las Palmas' joy would not last long, however, as Jese restored Madrid’s two-goal lead in the 42nd minute. The 22-year-old received the ball from Toni Kroos, went past Aythami and hit a strike into the far corner to make it 3-1.Perhaps with an eye on Tuesday's continental clash, Real took their foot off the gas after the interval, but Ronaldo remained hungry for goals, flashing a shot wide early in the period.

Chances were at a premium as Real took a stranglehold on the game, but Ronaldo ought to have made it four in stoppage time, though Varas was quick off his line to keep the score down.

Klopp: Liverpool title contenders? Oh, please...

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp adamantly played down expectations after his side came from behind to beat struggling Chelsea 3-1 on Saturday.

Despite conceding through Ramires in the early exchanges at Stamford Bridge, the Reds rallied - with Philippe Coutinho's equaliser just before half-time the catalyst.

Though Liverpool remain several points behind the leaders of the pack in the Premier League table, the performance prompted questions about their readiness to challenge for the title in Klopp's post-match press conference, to which the German responded derisively.

    "Oh, please," he stressed.

"I was hoping that I don't understand the question. I've been here for three weeks and everybody should win the league! And only one can win the league. And all the others have pressure all year and then only one team will win the league. Do you think only because of one win against Chelsea, you should ask me this?

"We have many injuries, we have to play on Thursday, we have to play on Sunday, we have to go on... we won the first game away after how long? A long time. I was not here, I was on holiday when Liverpool won the last game away so that's it, that's the situation.

"I don't want to be unfriendly with you but of course we don't think about this. We think about the next game, improving our game and our style. We can do much better than today, much, much better. We have to do better but today we played our game, good win - let's go home."

Asked how his side turned things around, Klopp replied: "We did not have the best start in this game, that's the truth. Within a few minutes Chelsea made their goal [...] but we stayed in the game, we had our moments. Our build-up with quick, short passes, that's what we want to do, it was good.

"They tried to make high pressure but we could play in the spaces between so we could change the situation a litte bit, [which] I think in the first half we deserved. Of course it's dangerous because of the quality of Chelsea on the counter.

"After half-time we managed to protect our situation better but we made a goal. We were always in more of the game and more of the game and then we made our goals in two perfect moments for us. We worked hard but it's normal if you want to win at Chelsea. We had to work hard; that's what we did."

Klopp had previously been critical of his side for failing to respond when falling behind but welcomed an improved reaction on Saturday.

"In life, as in football, you have to make mistakes and then you can talk about it and work on it and change it," he explained.

"I don't know the team for long enough that I can imagine all the reactions of my team in specific situations.

"It's not possible to train, really, in this part of football but we have changed things - that's what they did today - and that's really important for us, this reaction, because in the Premier League you can't go 3-0 in the lead every game and say 'easy going'. You have to fight and you have to solve your problems in the game."

Newcastle 0-0 Stoke City: Mitrovic & Co. frustrated by Potters

Stoke City were indebted to Jack Butland for their battling 0-0 Premier League draw with Newcastle United at St James' Park on Saturday.

The England international goalkeeper pulled off a string of superb saves to keep the scores level while at the other end Jonathan Walters missed the best chance of the game, failing to turn in a fine Charlie Adam cross.

Newcastle are now unbeaten in five at home against Stoke, but are without a win in their last four Premier League clashes with the Potters.

Mark Hughes welcomed back his captain Ryan Shawcross, who made his first Premier League appearance of the season after a persistent back problem.

Aleksandar Mitrovic came closest for the home side when he hit the post with a glancing header but the result does little for Steve McClaren's men, who remain rooted in the bottom three.

Newcastle were looking for a reaction to last weekend's 3-0 derby defeat to Sunderland and they started well with Ayoze Perez and Mitrovic linking up, but the Serb's shot was saved.

Stoke had a shout for a penalty in the fifth minute when Paul Dummett clipped Bojan Krkic's heels, but referee Roger East was not interested and replays showed the contact to have taken place outside the box.

The visitors were seeking a third straight away Premier League win and should have taken the lead after 15 minutes. Adam's superb cross evaded Chancel Mbemba, but Walters was unable to get a telling touch when it looked easier to score.

Mitrovic was at the heart of Newcastle's best play and Butland was lucky to see the striker's header from Moussa Sissoko's cross bounce back off the post.

Perez went close two minutes into the second half but his shot from 20 yards curled just wide.

Georginio Wijnaldum - scorer of four goals for Newcastle in their last home game against Norwich City - then brought a smart save out of Butland with a free-kick.

Stoke were threatening on the break and Rob Elliot was soon called into action for the first time, saving superbly from a Walters header after a fine Marko Arnautovic cross. Walters thumped the rebound wildly over.

Butland, the hero in Stoke's League Cup penalty-shootout win against Chelsea in midweek, was keeping his team in the game and he made an outstanding save to deny Sissoko after the France midfielder had been played in by Wijnaldum. From the resulting corner, Mbemba thudded a header narrowly wide.

In the 58th minute Butland was called upon once again, parrying a 20-yard drive from Perez around the post as Newcastle started to dominate.

Butland was by far the game's outstanding player and he showed razor sharp reflexes to tip over a drive by Sissoko with seven minutes to go, before palming over substitute Jamaal Lascelles' header as both sides had to settle for a point.

West Brom 2-3 Leicester City: Mahrez and Vardy lead Foxes comeback

    2169192_heroa.jpg

A second-half double from Riyad Mahrez inspired Leicester City to come from behind and seal a 3-2 Premier League win at Midlands rivals West Brom on Saturday.

Salomon Rondon gave the hosts the lead with a powerful header after half an hour amid an otherwise bright start from Claudio Ranieri's men, who came close early on when Jamie Vardy saw an effort tipped onto the post.

Leicester continued to threaten and drew level just after half-time when Mahrez got ahead of his man to volley home Marc Albrighton's superb cross, before the two players combined again just after the hour to edge the visitors in front at The Hawthorns.

And a thoroughly satisfying afternoon for third-placed Leicester was wrapped up 13 minutes from time as Vardy broke away from the defence to slot home his 11th league goal of the season, although West Brom did respond through a late penalty from Rickie Lambert, who was also denied by the woodwork in the dying seconds.

Vardy's goal edges him closer to Ruud van Nistelrooy's record of scoring in 10 consecutive Premier League fixtures and will see the 28-year old earn plenty more plaudits.

Premier League top scorer Vardy nearly gave the visitors an ideal start inside 10 minutes, getting behind Gareth McAuley before seeing a stinging drive tipped onto the post by goalkeeper Boaz Myhill.

Albrighton drilled just wide from 25 yards 10 minutes later as West Brom, unchanged from the 1-0 win at Norwich City last weekend, continued to find themselves on the back foot.
But West Brom weathered the early storm and made Leicester pay for their profligacy after 30 minutes.

A well-worked corner saw Rondon burst ahead of Danny Simpson at the near post to head home Stephane Sessegnon's whipped cross from the left.

Leicester persevered, with Myhill producing a smart save to keep out Leonardo Ulloa's glancing header just before half-time, but an otherwise impressive defensive performance meant West Brom ended the opening 45 minutes in the ascendency.

Only a last-ditch Simpson tackle prevented Saido Berahino from doubling West Brom's lead five minutes after the break, but Leicester responded and restored parity just before the hour.

A wonderful deep cross from Albrighton found Mahrez at the far post and he steered an expert volley home from close range.

Vardy diverted a cheeky backheel just wide, but Leicester were not to be denied a second as Albrighton again teed up Mahrez with a deflected cross.

The visitors extended their lead after 77 minutes when the in-form Vardy was on hand to finish a stunning counter-attacking breakaway by slotting home, drawing him level with Daniel Sturridge as the only Englishmen to net in eight Premier League games in a row.

But West Brom hit back seven minutes later when substitute Nathan Dyer was adjudged to have fouled Callum McManaman inside the area, allowing substitute Lambert to open his account for the club from the spot.

Tony Pulis' men pushed for an equaliser, with McManaman firing wide and Lambert hitting the post late on, but Leicester survived a frantic finish to claim the win.
