Hi Guys,

I did the written test in RMV and passed it and now they want me to stay 3 months to get the driving license. I can drive really well and I dont want to stay that long. If I am to drive with the L permit someone who has license should be seated on the front seat.

Is it possible for me to get it faster if I inform RMV that I have to go abroad within 2 weeks?

Anyone out there who can help me? Atleast if it costs 25000 even its alright as long as I can get it fast.

If I drive with the L permit alone and if police stops surely its going to be a problem :)

I think so. Because i live in colombo and with L on my bike, I've travelled to Galle. An officer stopped me (i think in kosgama area) and ask for the license and stuff. I showed him the permit and all went fine :)

But this is in 2010 though :baffled:

Should you go through a driving school to face the written test?
    What are the documents required?

Nah you don't need to go through a driving school to face the written test.
Just get the medical certification from nearest NTMI center and visit Department of Motor Traffic branch in district secretariat office (aka කච්චේරිය :baffled:) .

If your NIC address is different to the home address, then you have to take a certificate from grama niladaree (ග්‍රාම නිලධාරී) as well.

Then they will give you date / time for the exam. If you passed the exam they will book a trial date and give you a Learner permit and you have to suffer 3 months with it :sorry:

When I got my licence about 6 years ago, I had to go through a Learners school. They collected all the documents including passport size photos and gave us a date for the exam. Never knew I could get it done by myself... Thanks for the clarification
