Never thought of this kind of score :baffled: If Iceland have marked Payet & Griezmann a bit better they could've had a good chance,Second half performance was better.
Anyway well done Iceland!! Most of their players will get good transfer opportunities in the upcoming window.
Feel like they'll have a good run in the upcoming tournaments after this :)
    Congratz France!
But germany will destroy them :D

    Mascherano undecided on Argentina future

    javiermascherano-cropped_1a6yjsdhzguvn1195du8izfo76.jpg

Javier Mascherano says he is yet to decide if he will continue his international career following Argentina's "very painful" Copa America Centenario final defeat.

The Albiceleste suffered defeat in the final of a major tournament for a third straight year after going down to Chile in a penalty shoot-out in New Jersey last Sunday.
The loss followed their failures in the 2015 Copa final, also against Chile, as well as the 2014 World Cup decider against Germany in Brazil.

Reports suggested Mascherano - just like team-mate Lionel Messi - would bring an end to his international career, but the Barcelona star is yet to announce his plans. "With respect to national team, I will not make any comments," the 32-year-old told reporters.

"It is something I will keep to myself and I prefer not to make any comments to anyone, because we've just finished a very painful Copa America. "It is not the time to decide anything."

As for his club future, however, Mascherano insists he hopes to continue at Barca for "many years to come", despite reported interest from Juventus. "I hope that we will have a good season," he added.

"As always, I start the season with a lot of excitement, I hope that it will be the best yet."

    OFFICIAL: Arsenal confirm Asano deal

    3410462_heroa.jpg

Arsenal have secured a deal to sign Japan striker Takuma Asano from Sanfrecce Hiroshima. The Gunners confirmed on Sunday that a deal has been agreed in principle "subject to the completion of a medical and regulatory processes".

Arsenal did not give any details over the length of deal that has been agreed with Asano, but manager Arsene Wenger was delighted to land the 21-year-old.Wenger said: "Takuma is a talented young striker and very much one for the future."He has had an impressive start to his career in Japan and we look forward to him developing over the next couple of years."

Asano has five senior caps for Japan after making his debut against North Korea in August 2015 and scored his first goal against Bulgaria last month. He has also been named in the country's Under-23 squad to play in the Rio Olympic Games next month.

At club level, Asano has largely been a substitute for Sanfrecce Hiroshima. Of his 34 J-League appearances in 2015, 32 came off the bench, while he only started in four of his 11 outings this season.

The attacker was named as the J-League's Rookie of the Year in 2015 when he scored nine goals."I was stunned, but I have the confidence to succeed wherever I go," Asano told reporters when he initially heard of Arsenal's interest.

Asano will be Arsenal's second signing ahead of the new season following the arrival of Switzerland midfielder Granit Xhaka. The Gunners missed out on the capture of Leicester City's Jamie Vardy prior to their pursuit of Asano.

OFFICIAL: Arteta confirms Man City coaching role

    2737272_heroa.jpg

Former Arsenal captain Mikel Arteta has confirmed that he is retiring from football to take up a coaching role at Manchester City under Pep Guardiola.

The midfielder was confident he had played his last game of football when he played just two minutes in Arsenal's final game of the 2015-16 season - just his ninth appearance in the English top flight in that campaign.

Speculation had been building around the 34-year-old's future towards the end of the season, with reports linking him to a background role at City.

And the former Spain international has confirmed that his playing career has ended and he will be working with Guardiola at the Etihad Stadium next term.

"I can confirm that I will be leaving Arsenal and retiring from playing to take up a coaching position at Manchester City," he said in a statement released on Twitter.

"I've enjoyed an amazing five years at Arsenal and it's been an honour and a privilege to captain such a great club.

"The opportunity to join Pep Guardiola and his team was an amazing opportunity for me and I am incredibly excited for the future.

"Throughout my career I have always been interested in more than just the playing side and have had a passion for helping progress and develop the team outside of just my own role as a player.

"I have been lucky to play under some amazing coaches and managers during my playing career and I hope to use elements of everything I've learnt from them as well as experience from my own playing career to help City achieve success."

    OFFICIAL: Chelsea complete Batshuayi move

    3397712_heroa.jpg

Chelsea have completed the signing of Marseille striker Michy Batshuayi after the Belgium international agreed a five-year deal with the Blues.

He becomes Antonio Conte's first signing at Stamford Bridge, with the four-time Premier League champions spending €40 million on the 22-year-old.

As Goal reported, Batshuayi underwent his medical in Bordeaux last week and will report for pre-season following a short break in the aftermath of Belgium's exit from Euro 2016.

Batshuayi enjoyed a stellar campaign in Ligue 1 last season, scoring 17 goals in 36 appearances, and has previously been linked with Tottenham, Juventus and West Ham before sealing his move to west London.

Crystal Palace also targeted Batshuayi, and had a bid accepted for the forward, but the player wanted to move to a bigger club and will join up with Conte for a pre-season tour of Austria and America.

"I am delighted to sign for one of the biggest clubs in Europe and embark on the next chapter in my career," he said upon his arrival.

"I hope I can help Chelsea win many trophies during my time at Stamford Bridge. "Eden Hazard and Thibaut Courtois have told me many good things about the club, and with Antonio Conte coming in it's an exciting time to become a Chelsea player.
"This is a fantastic opportunity for myself and my family, I am looking forward to playing in the Premier League next season."

Payet could go to Barcelona or Real Madrid, admits West Ham co-owner

    dimitri-payet-cropped_a0h4eqm4qin1dmoqgt1ykqzd.jpg

West Ham co-owner David Gold has admitted that his side could lose Dimitri Payet to Barcelona or Real Madrid.

The France international, 29, is shining at Euro 2016 after an impressive debut campaign in the Premier League following his move from Marseille, which was reported to be worth £10.7 million.Payet finished the season with nine goals and 12 assists in 30 league appearances, and only Mesut Ozil created more chances, according to Opta.

Gold insisted West Ham are desperate to keep Payet as they prepare for their first season in the Olympic Stadium, but acknowledged that Barca or Madrid could be too difficult to fend off if his player wanted to join them."We will fight tooth and nail to make sure Dimitri pulls on a claret and blue shirt next season," Gold said to The Sun.

"We want to improve our squad and Dimitri is an integral part of what we are trying to do. But we also must be realistic. If Barcelona or Real Madrid made a bid and he wanted to move there, it would be difficult to keep him."You can't have a great player like Dimitri and expect no-one to make a bid, especially with the performances he is producing at the Euros.

"The phone has not rung yet, although we know there is a chance it will once the tournament is over. We are not silly. Yet, let me be very clear, we would not welcome a call."

Gold stressed West Ham are under no financial pressure to sell Payet and does not want them to be perceived as a selling club - even though any departure of the playmaker, under contract until 2021, would secure a massive profit. He continued: "The club certainly doesn't need to sell him so this is not a case of: 'We have bought him for £10m and can now make a tidy profit'."

The co-owner also discussed the challenge of taking on England's biggest clubs in the transfer market after Michy Batshuayi - who they had targeted - opted to join Chelsea, having completed his move on Sunday."We are desperate to bring in quality players. Nowadays we are competing with Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester United or Manchester City. For them, resources are virtually unlimited," he said.

"But in the real world at West Ham, you have got two English owners who pay their taxes, without the resources of those other clubs. "We are not a club yet that can compete on that scale with them, but we are no longer a selling club – we are a spending club and investing in our future.

"The gap is shrinking between us and them. Big fish eat little fish. West Ham have been a little fish for too long and the only way to stop being eaten is to become a big fish."

Gomez ruled out of Euro 2016 with hamstring injury

Germany striker Mario Gomez has been ruled out of the rest of Euro 2016 with a torn hamstring. The Fiorentina striker, who spent last season on loan at Besiktas, was forced off in the second half of his country's penalty shootout victory over Italy.

Joachim Low could also be without Bastian Schweinsteiger and Sami Khedira in the semi-finals, when Germany will face either France or Iceland.

Schweinsteiger has picked up a ligament strain while Khedira is suffering from an adductor injury."It is very disappointing when, at this crucial stage of the tournament, important players are ruled out," Low said.

"I'm especially sorry for Mario. He has put in some strong performances at the European Championship and has helped the team not only with his goals.

"We accept the situation and have to find solutions. The quality of the squad is high, I have full confidence in all my players.

"We will be ready on Thursday and look forward to the semi-final in Marseille."
Mats Hummels will definitely miss the last-four clash due to suspension after picking up a second yellow card of the tournament against Italy.

Batshuayi to wear No.23 shirt at Chelsea

    3099002_heroa.jpg

New Chelsea signing Michy Batshuayi has revealed that he will wear the No.23 shirt for the Blues.

The Belgium international, who arrived in England over the weekend after his side were knocked out of Euro 2016 by Wales, was officially announced as a new Chelsea player on Sunday having completed a switch from Marseille.

Batshuayi was limited to just two substitute appearances at the tournament in France although was on target in the 4-0 win over Hungary, with the Blues having been convinced to shell out €40 million for his services.

The 22-year-old striker scored 17 goals in 36 Ligue 1 appearances for Marseille in the 2015-16 campaign, with the likes of Tottenham, Juventus and West Ham having been linked with big-money moves for the forward.

It is Chelsea who have won the race to sign Batshuayi, though, and he confirmed on Twitter that he will take the No.23 shirt that was previously worn by Juan Cuadrado during his first season at the club.

Muller: I need a break from taking penalties

Germany attacker Thomas Muller has made it clear he wants a break from taking penalties after missing from the spot in his side's Euro 2016 quarter-final win over Italy.

The reigning world champions needed spot-kicks to see off Italy after a 1-1 draw after 120 minutes, but Muller was one of three Germans who failed to find the net from 12 yards, Gianluigi Buffon saving his kick.

The versatile attacker also missed from the spot for Bayern Munich against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League semi-final second leg and he has consequently decided not to take any penalties for now.

"I will not be taking any penalties for the next two weeks," Muller told Sport Bild ."I will work on my technique at penalties for a bit and I will be back stronger in one or two months or so.

"I will take a step back and let others do the business for now."However, Muller was quick to add that he is willing to make an exception if a game goes to spot kicks again in the remainder of Euro 2016.

"If a match goes to penalties again and we need someone, I will be available," he stressed. "But I will not be asking to take one myself."

Muller enjoyed a strong 2015-16 campaign at Bayern, but has yet to find the net at the finals in France. He is not overly concerned with his lack of goals, though, so long as Germany keep winning.

"I will keep trying to get a goal. If it happens, it happens," the forward continued. "If we win the final without me scoring, I might not get as much credit in the media, but I will still be taking the trophy home."

    Deschamps praises Griezmann, Umtiti

France coach Didier Deschamps lauded Antoine Griezmann and hopes to see more from the attacker after reaching the Euro 2016 semi-finals.Griezmann struck in the first half of his side's 5-2 quarter-final victory over Iceland on Sunday as they booked a meeting with Germany.

The Atletico Madrid man is the leading goalscorer at the tournament with four, and Deschamps hailed the 25-year-old."Long may it continue, if he can be the top scorer so much the better for us," he said.

"Antoine had a tricky start to the tournament. He was a little bit fatigued so I wanted to manage him during the first nine days of the tournament."He is fit now and did not have any fatigue tonight or during the previous match.

"He is a clinical finisher, he is excellent technically and we hope he continues like this."Olivier Giroud scored a brace to go with goals from Griezmann, Paul Pogba and Dimitri Payet in Paris.

At the other end, Lyon defender Samuel Umtiti impressed on his international debut, much to Deschamps' delight.

"He really confirmed everything that I've thought of him and everything that he's been able to demonstrate in training," he said."Clearly he is a good defender. He is relatively calm and he played his part in making sure that we defended well.

"I gave him a bit of problem in the second half because I put him on to the right [of the central defenders] because I did not want to take any more risks with Laurent Koscielny, who was a booking away from a ban.

"I was not concerned because he is a very relaxed individual."Deschamps, however, was unwilling to say whether Umtiti had done enough to retain his spot for Thursday's semi-final.

He said: "He has the same chances as the other players. He has not lost any brownie points tonight, quite the opposite."Once again, I've got time."

Batshuayi keen to emulate Drogba at Chelsea

    michy-batshuayi_1noo15i3ojjzd1uq2fa7laow9i.jpg

Michy Batshuayi is keen to emulate Didier Drogba at Chelsea and enjoy an equally successful career at Stamford Bridge as the Ivorian. The 22-year-old signed a five-year deal with Chelsea on Sunday to complete his transfer from Marseille, following in the footsteps of Drogba - who made the same move in 2004.

Batshuayi has been likened to the 38-year-old on more than one occasion and he is hopeful he can make the same impact at the Premier League giants.Drogba won four Premier League titles as well as one Champions League during his two spells with Chelsea.

"Drogba and I are different people," Batshuayi told the official Chelsea website."But I totally respect the career Didier had at Chelsea and I am going to do my best [to enjoy similar success]."I want to enjoy myself and give my maximum to help the team win matches."

The striker has regularly been compared to Drogba, but he tries to model his game on former great Ronaldo instead.

"The Brazilian Ronaldo was my idol when I grew up," Batshuayi continued. "He was a phenomenal player."Batshuayi will be working under Antonio Conte at Chelsea and he is keen to team up with the former Italy coach.

"It's a real chance for me and I'm looking forward to starting with a new club and new coach," he added. "It's a great opportunity."
