I use a scooter. I have balls and I can drive a clutch bike as well. So why did I buy a scooter?
First of all, it's multipurpose. Its much easier to carry things around given the luggage space and hanger space in front of the legs. I have carried gas cylinders there without any issue.
It's easier in traffic. I'm not suggesting that you cant drive manuals in traffic but anyone who drives knows its convenient to use an auto drive. Also the smaller size gives extra maneuverability, which helps in slithering through traffic, which albeit illegal, is an integral part of the biking reality in Sri lanka.
A scooter is more family friendly, and even your mum can take it out for a ride. of course this doesn't apply if you have a couple of cars with someone to take you around all the time, but that is not the ground reality for a majority of Sri Lankans, including me.
People use vehicles for their needs within their financial reach. In doing so, they may have to compromise on certain aspects such as build quality, safety and comfort. But it's not choice, they just don't have an option. Personally, if I could afford my family at least an Alto, I wouldnt even think of buying a scooter.
But judging people's manhood (or womanhood) for their personal preferences (and more realistically fate) is a more a judgement of the people who do so than those who ride scooters.
