I think this is true. Don't give up hope. Government will think about your side as well, just wait. Software Engineering side is very competitive sector now, nowadays there're 4,5 rounds interviews even to get an entry level IT/Programming job. (like sri lankan reality programs ) Thousands of fresh IT graduates coming into the industry every year, and many of them even work for under 25,000 salary for years and years. If you start IT job in your 30 (or even 28 or so) you can't expect very high salary at start & you'll be 35yrs old when you make over 100,000 most probably, unless you have super strong skill set or join one of the very few companies that pay well. And don't forget the stress as well, Programming jobs in other countries vs here (except very very few companies) is very different, very difficult to balance work-life. And at the end you'll need years maybe decades to earn back all the money you spent on education if you start your career in Programming in your 30s.

for the first time of my life i agree with this guy

enterprise level coding job/business is 10x stress than a medical doc. So better stay in your path.
But if you are talented can make a lot more than average MBBS

GTRZ ayye not sure if you remember me, i have called you about 5 years ago to add a html5 gaming section on Elakiri.com...sadly i started medicine and couldn't complete the project... You have helped me many times (i was with different EK accounts maybe) over the phone bro those days!!!
Yeah it would be really stressful bro but im really passionate about this, so its manageable (can go on for like 15 hours straight with these game projects etc without much of a resistance at all... I cant work in any other thing like that...so i guess my passion is this)

Yeah the whole reason for me to stay n continue medicine forgetting about my dreams (i wanna try build a game company like nintendo together with a team) is for the stable salary of 100,000-150,000...i would really hate my job as a doctor.
Best time to start would have been 5 years ago but i guess the 2nd best time would be now. I have regretted not dropping out every year. Might regret forever if i don't drop out now :/

THANKS A LOT FOR ALL THE HELPS BRO!!!

Thanks a lot bro for this! Really appreciate for taking your time to write all this.. Yeah my best friend just started at codegen... Yeah he was called for 4 interviews n he said bro how hard it was n how hard it is at the job... He comes home 11pm on some days...but with my situation i have to be okay to work like that for the next decade to build up my life i guess

Just one more question bro... Would be a big help if you can answer

Machan suppose i complete a 3 year software engineering degree and continue to do online courses to gain skills over the 3 years... Would it be hard for me to get a 60,000 per month job by im 30?

I started a medical soap business last year, making a few laks now... Hope to expand it n start 2 more businesses... So need the job to make ends meet for 6-12 months if all businesses fail bro... Its okay if dont make over 1lak for some time

Have a Dying passion to create Games :)
    Instagram post link = https://www.instagram.com/p/BcXnYPHDhim/
(Made 100% from scratch without using any assets etc... I did the coding, graphics, music n everything)
Idea is if i put more time into this, i could make really cool stuff that i can make a living of... Hopefully.

I would like to learn more about machine learning and neural networks... Just know some super basic stuff about those... Made a app that can tell you the type of skin rash you have when you take a picture of it (a very limited app)

It's a bad idea to try to get into the gaming industry bro?

I have no idea who on earth forced you to medicine in the first place. Is there even a gaming industry in sri lanka.I think not.I think all you need is some free time to try your skills.

Saw the game video, you definitely have very good skill set. very impressive.:love:

You have really good skills, very impressive. But here is the thing. It seems you're very interested about games. So if you go to a game making company you'll be happy and even ready to work 11,12 hours a day no problem. so it means you have get a game developing job not any programming job, that's makes the situation tough. because there are very few game creating companies in sri lanka and most of the it guys (including me) don't get a job in the exact same job we dream about. with the degree + technologies i knew i just joined a company and they just gave me programming task they need me to do, not the one i dream of. learned it well with the experience and with that skill to a another job with good salary, that's how most of the people do. Still to this day I don't work in the programming field i had the passion. When I following the degree i was passionate about IoT & robotics stuff, what I'm doing in now doesn't have that kind of stuff not even in the company i work.
You can definitely get a programming job that pays above 60,000 but most probably after one year with experience. Because in sri lanka in most cases specially in software engineering for your first job, your degree, university matters to the salary. When i started my job 5,6 people from private universities(including myself) and another 4 from government universities. We all did the same task & but all private guys payed only 30,000 while the government guys been payed well over 30,000. one guy from colombo uni got more than 40 or 50, other guys from moratuwa got over 100,000. that's the difference, but we all did the same job. so with skills and experince your degree and university starts to matter less but at the beginning it definitely matter.
Some advertisements even in topjobs mention "applicants must be below 30" even if doesn't mention in the advert, that may be considered in interviews specially HR interviews. Because they know people in that age have high tendency to get married and consider work-life balance very seriously, sometime they see that as a risk. even when we say I'm ok with late hours, they see that as a risk. because when they hire very young people for such stressful jobs, they know they work long hours, work for the very low salary, less tendency to leave office at least for a year because of low salary or stress but people in 30s have good idea about everything, they need to be payed well, work-life balance and career growth and everything.

If you have a business don't you think you have to spend some time for that as well. If you work 12 hours a day for office job how you gonna manage another business.

at the end, you can definitely get payed over 60+ but that depends on so many things/risks and career start won't be easy as well. If you are willing to work hard even for non game related software develoment you might have higher chance to succeed.

I think you have enough money in your family to invest in the business and so on. I don't see any point you're looking for an ordinary 9-5 job for few months. All you're doing is spending and earning the same money you invested back again. Better to put that money in FD and do nothing at all until you find what you really want to do. All I see is you have an intense passion for gaming developments, But what you trying to get here is an ordinary software developing job which makes you even stressful.

    How about biomedical engineering side?

I do not know much about that. But you must have knowledge about medicine and you have a passion about software/coding(even electronics I think) So how about that?

I'm sorry to hear that. I hope everything will turn out to be ok and government will think in your side (mainly) before they decide what to do.

I don't think it's good time to start a degree now and start working at 30 or something. You'll be able to make a living. But it's hard to get into the industry. I'm same age as you and in my final year of my IT degree. I wish I had completed my degree at around 22 and start working at 23 atleast. So, in my opinion it's better you start early.

If you really want to get into IT industry, I think IIT is the best private uni IMO. I've heard only good about IIT graduates.

And if you can, apply somewhere like Arimac. They might consider you because of your passion and skills even though you don't have a CS/IT degree .. Then you can start working there and start the degree as well. Because then you already have SE experience when you complete your degree

    Good Luck

I think you have already burned around 60lks or so. If you enough money on hand just buy some land in a popular area, Build a 3 story building and rent it out. Don't waste it again by going abroad and things. Career-wise you'll be 30 when you graduate. You gonna have a tough time after that. When you turn 30 your brain stops working to do anything related to study. Just my cents
