Hart joins Burnley from Man City in £3.5m deal

    4EE4F8DF00000578-6034517-Joe_Hart_poses_in_a_Burnley_training_top_after_joining_the_club_-m-40_1533635204232.jpg

Burnley have confirmed the signing of Joe Hart from Manchester City for a reported £3.5 million fee.The England international signs an initial two-year contract with the Turf Moor side, joining after regular shot-stopper Nick Pope dislocated his shoulder last month.

The 31-year-old had loan spells at Torino and West Ham over the last two seasons, but has opted for a permanent switch to the Clarets this summer, joining Pope and Tom Heaton as the third Three Lions goalkeeper in Sean Dyche's squad.Hart will have to compete with Heaton, who is recovering from a calf problem, and Anders Lindegaard for the first-choice goalkeeper spot.

Hart's role at City was reduced with the arrival of Pep Guardiola, but the 75-time international insists he holds nothing but affection for City despite his desire to pursue a permanent move away.

"It's been a fantastic experience, I've grown a lot," Hart told City's website as he bid farewell."I came here at 19 and I'm going to leave at 31 so it's been a long time and a lot of things have happened - family, friends and a lot of football!

"I certainly feel a lot of love and appreciation. I've always enjoyed the Man City fans, I came here as a Shrewsbury Town player - a kid from Shrewsbury. It was the pinnacle for me to be at this club before they were challenging for the title, and I was welcomed from day one. I think they saw in me someone who was just going to try his best."I wouldn't have been able to do the things I've done if I wasn't embraced or happy - so I'm happy to have given the fans some great memories and hopefully I'll be thought of well."

City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak thanked Hart for his contribution to the reigning Premier League champions."His 12 years at the club have seen him produce some remarkable performances and heart-stopping saves that will live in the memory for a long time to come," Al Mubarak said.

"His passion for and commitment to this club, evidenced by a remarkable tally of 348 appearances, means he will rightly be regarded as a City legend in perpetuity."I want to personally thank him for everything he has given to us over very many years and he leaves with Sheikh Mansour's and my heartfelt best wishes for the next step in his career.

"He will always be welcome at the club."

Chelsea in talks to bring Real Madrid's Kovacic on loan

Mateo Kovacic is in talks over a move to Chelsea from Real Madrid on loan, as the Croatia international pushes to escape the club where he is a fringe player, Goal understands.

The terms of the move remain unclear but Madrid are keen to loan the 24-year-old without an option to buy, while Chelsea will push to include a purchase option as talks between the clubs continue.

Blues manager Maurizio Sarri has voiced his desire to bring in a midfielder and he is keen to add another player with different "characteristics" to the current crop in west London.

Chelsea had tried to sign Alexsandr Golovin but they were snubbed as he chose AS Monaco in the final hours for development reasons. The Blues are also likely to offload more than one senior midfielder before the transfer window closes on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the future of Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois is keeping dialogue open between the clubs, as he looks set for a €35 million (£31m/$41m) move to Real Madrid.

The Chelsea No.1 is keen to be closer to his two daughters in the Spanish capital after his three-year loan spell at Atletico Madrid from Stamford Bridge.

Athletic's Kepa Arrizabalaga looks set to have his €80m (£71m/$92m) release clause activated by Chelsea, which will not only make him the club's record signing, but also the most expensive goalkeeper of all time.Chelsea have informed the player and the Basque club of their intent as they aim to replace Courtois, who hasn't turned up for his first two days of training at Cobham, despite being due back on Monday.

Willy Caballero is expecting to go back to being the club's second goalkeeper, after starting in Chelsea's 2-0 Community Shield defeat to Manchester City.

Chelsea to trigger €80m Kepa clause as Courtois remains AWOL

Chelsea are prepared to trigger Kepa Arrizabalaga's €80 million (£71m/$92m) release clause, with Thibaut Courtois looking to force a move to Real Madrid, Goal understands.Athletic made it clear that they would not accept any bids for Kepa, meaning that the Blues must meet a price tag in his contract in order to proceed. It is believed that Chelsea have now agreed to pay the fees required to secure the goalkeeper.

The move would break the club's transfer record, set last season when Chelsea signed Alvaro Morata in an initial £58m ($75m) deal, potentially rising to £70m ($90m), from Real Madrid.

It would also make Kepa the world's most expensive goalkeeper, less than a month after Alisson secured that title with a £65m (€73m/$85m) move from Roma to Liverpool.Chelsea have formalised their interest as they negotiate the exit of Courtois from the club. Goal understands that Kepa's representatives are now in talks with the Blues regarding personal terms.

Meanwhile, Courtois has failed to show up for the first two days of training after the World Cup, despite being scheduled to return on Monday for medical tests ahead of the new season.

Real Madrid are keen to secure Courtois in a €35m deal (£31m/$40m), meaning Chelsea will have to find the extra funds needed to sign Kepa from Athletic.Los Blancos have not yet made a breakthrough in their pursuit of the Belgium international, with Chelsea waiting to have their replacement lined up before sanctioning the deal.

Indeed, the Blues are faced with spending more than they had previously planned to, after missing out on Alisson, who was their first-choice target.

Chelsea 0 Lyon 0 (5-4 on penalties): Green's save allows Hazard to win ICC clash

    4EE935D000000578-6036387-image-a-61_1533676475018.jpg

Rob Green was Chelsea's hero as Maurizio Sarri's side edged past Lyon 5-4 on penalties in the International Champions Cup after a 0-0 draw at Stamford Bridge.

All three of Chelsea's ICC games had gone to a shoot-out, the Blues victorious against Inter but losing against Premier League rivals Arsenal, when Ruben Loftus-Cheek was denied by Petr Cech.Chelsea have been linked with a world-record bid for Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga with Thibaut Courtois expected to complete a move to LaLiga giants Real Madrid.

And when substitute stopper Green blocked Pape Diop's penalty after four perfect kicks apiece, Eden Hazard was able to confidently stroke home the winning effort to give Sarri a triumphant end to pre-season ahead of the Premier League starting at the weekend.

Marcin Bulka was starting in goal for Chelsea amid the Kepa and Courtois speculation and he made a brilliant save to his left to parry Memphis Depay's powerful drive in the 26th minute.

Depay then slipped Houssem Aouar through on goal with a clever reverse pass but the talented 20-year-old dragged his shot wide of Bulka's far post.Chelsea struggled to create openings in the first period but Anthony Lopes leapt high to his left to keep out Willian's 25-yard free-kick on the stroke of half-time.

Loftus-Cheek was impressing in midfield with his energy but after the England midfielder raced clear and chipped Lopes the ball bounced back off the face of the post.

Sarri sent on Jorginho and N'Golo Kante and the duo immediately combined to good effect, the World Cup winner sent scampering into the box only to be denied by smart goalkeeping from Lopes.

Green struggled to get close to Lyon's first four penalties but when he guessed correctly and dived to his left against Diop, the former England goalkeeper made a fine save.

And Hazard - wearing the captain's armband after coming off the bench - stepped up to ensure Chelsea warmed up for the start of the Premier League season with a victory.

Real Madrid 2 Roma 1: Bale, Asensio see off stubborn Giallorossi

    lgvZlAq.jpg

Real Madrid eased to a 2-1 win over Roma in the International Champions Cup on Tuesday, as Los Blancos continued their encouraging progress under Julen Lopetegui.

The Champions League holders have had to adjust to life without head coach Zinedine Zidane and superstar attacker Cristiano Ronaldo as they seek to close the domestic gap to Barcelona in LaLiga during the campaign ahead.Facing Serie A opposition at Metlife Stadium in Rutherford, Madrid picked up where they had left off in a dominant 3-1 win over Juventus last time out.

With just two minutes gone, Gareth Bale's brilliant pass with the outside of his boot released Asensio in behind Ivan Marcano, and the attacker was left with a simple finish to beat Robin Olsen and make it 1-0.

Bale took matters into his own hands in the 15th minute, receiving a lofted pass out of defence from Dani Carvajal, cutting inside Marcano with ease and slotting past the helpless Olsen to double Madrid's lead.Roma responded by dropping deeper but failed to mount a consistent threat of their own, Edin Dzeko forcing a save from Keylor Navas with a long-range shot in what was one of Roma's few first-half opportunities.

At the other end, Madrid continued to cause problems. Benzema forced a good save from Olsen with a fierce drive from just outside the area in the 36th minute. And two minutes later, Asensio had a shot blocked at close range after a flowing move down the right.Sweeping changes from both sides, including the introduction of Justin Kluivert, helped the Giallorossi to rally in the second half.

Kevin Strootman duly pulled one back for Roma when he met Patrick Schick's flicked header from a long throw unmarked at the back post in the 83rd minute, in what was just reward for an improved display in the second half from the Italian side, but they proved unable to force a late equaliser.

:(:(:sorry:Negativity surrounding moody Mourinho's Man Utd has Ferdinand fearing 'horrendous' outcome

The “negativity” around Manchester United, with Jose Mourinho cutting a frustrated figure, has Rio Ferdinand fearing the “horrendous” prospect of a Premier League finish behind Liverpool and Manchester City. The Red Devils finished as runners-up in 2017-18, with only the record-breaking efforts of arch-rivals at the Etihad Stadium keeping them from the summit.

Mourinho has, however, endured a quiet summer in the transfer market while seeing those around him embark on elaborate spending sprees, leaving the Portuguese cursing his luck and questions being asked of his relationship with executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward.

Ferdinand admits the outlook for United appears bleak before a ball has been kicked, with it looking likely that those at Old Trafford will take a backwards step in the upcoming campaign. The former Red Devils defender told the Mirror: “There seems to be a lot of negativity around United at the moment, and that doesn’t bode well.

“The manager is obviously not happy about the signings he hasn’t been able to make and not having certain players available on their pre-season tour, which isn’t nice to hear if you are a young kid trying to make your mark on the fringes of the squad.

“He seems to have put a nail in that coffin with the way he has spoken.“And then there has been the saga of Anthony Martial going home from the tour in America and not coming back.“In the meantime, Manchester City look stronger than ever and Liverpool have improved again.

“They have brought in a £60 million goalkeeper, I think Naby Keita will make a great impact, we know of Xherdan Shaqiri’s quality, and they have added Fabinho to the mix as well.“I’m a United fan, and I want to see them win the title, but I fear it’s going to be very difficult for that to happen this season.

“I can’t see past City and Liverpool as the top two — and to say that about the two clubs who wouldn’t be top of any United fan’s Christmas card list is horrendous.”Mourinho’s men will open the new Premier League season on home soil against Leicester on Friday.

They may have fresh faces to introduce by the time that fixture rolls around, with the summer transfer window set to slam shut on Thursday.

Alderweireld 'all day' over Maguire, says Man Utd legend Ferdinand

Manchester United should be favouring Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld over Leicester defender Harry Maguire, says Rio Ferdinand, while they also need to get the best out of Paul Pogba. The Red Devils are scrambling around trying to find a new centre-half ahead of Thursday’s transfer deadline, with several options having been considered as the summer window runs down.

Belgium international Alderweireld appears to have emerged as the favoured choice of Jose Mourinho, with Goal revealing that a compromise has been reached with Spurs over a fee, and that decision is supported by Ferdinand.

The former United defender told the Mirror: “Harry Maguire did great at the World Cup, but of the players potentially available he would not be my first choice.I would go for Alderweireld, all day long, because he is suited to the way United play.“But it will take more than a quality defender to galvanise them, and this is where you have to respect Mourinho’s track record and his history of winning trophies.

“Do I think he will still be manager of Manchester United this time next year? Put it this way: I hope so, because if he is still there, it means they have been successful and won something.“I wouldn’t write him off. He has won 20 trophies as a manager.

“He knows how to galvanise teams by instilling a siege mentality sometimes and he is going to need all his dark arts to create that atmosphere of ‘Manchester United against the world’ to make them formidable again.“But it’s not just new signings that is going to be the catalyst. It’s the manager who sets the tone, and he’s got a few big issues to address.”

One of the biggest challenges facing Mourinho is bringing the best out of Pogba, with the Frenchman having shown during a triumphant World Cup campaign with his country this summer what he is capable of when confident and played in a favoured role.
Ferdinand added: “He’s got to get Paul Pogba to play for United the way he did for France at the World Cup.“The talent at Mourinho’s disposal is undeniable. But can he get the best out of them, and play in a way that maximises their ability?

“It’s going to be a big ask for United to win the title, and I’m afraid I would be surprised if they made serious inroads in the Champions League as well.”

Kepa's €80m release clause paid as Chelsea seal deal for Courtois replacement

Chelsea are closing in on the signing of Kepa Arrizabalaga having activated the goalkeeper's €80 million (£71m/$92m) release clause. The player's representatives and lawyers travelled to La Liga headquarters in Valencia to pay the fee, with Kepa now due to travel to London to undergo a medical and finalise personal terms.

Athletic confirmed that the release clause had been paid on Wednesday, issuing a statement that read: "The player Kepa Arrizabalaga has met the requirements for the valid unilateral termination of the contract that linked him to Athletic Club.

"The aforementioned certification indicates that the player has expressed his desire to terminate and unilaterally resolve the relationship that had joined him with the club since the 2004-05 season and that the amount of the compensation established in the contract has been deposited."Athletic thanks the player for his contribution during the time he has remained with our club."

The Kepa deal will break the club's previous transfer record, set last season when the Blues signed Alvaro Morata from Real Madrid in an initial £58m ($75m) deal, potentially rising to £70m ($90m).

It will also make Kepa the world's most expensive goalkeeper, less than a month after Alisson joined Liverpool in a £65m (€73m/$85m) move. The move for the Spaniard will free up Thibaut Courtois to complete a switch to Real Madrid, with the Belgian having been absent from training as he looked to force through a switch to Santiago Bernabeu.

Madrid have been keen to bring in Courtois in a €35m deal (£31m/$40m) for some time now, where the funds expected from that transfer being used by theBlues to secure Athletic goalkeeper Kepa. And the Blues' transfer business isn't likely to end with Kepa - Goal understands Maurizio Sarri's side are in talks over a loan move for Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic.

Indeed, Madrid boss Julen Lopetegui has revealed that his side will attempt to find a "high level replacement" should Kovacic complete a switch to Stamford Bridge .
Time is against Sarri and Chelsea, however, with the transfer window for Premier League clubs closing at 5pm BST on August 9.Chelsea get their Premier League campaign underway on Saturday with an away trip to David Wagner's Huddersfield Town.

Everton weigh up Zouma move amid Mina & Rojo frustrations

Everton are ready to move for Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma in a season-long loan deal having been frustrated at their attempts to land alternative targets, Goal understands.

The Toffees had agreed a €32m (£29m/$37m) deal with Barcelona to sign Yerry Mina, only for talks between the club and player's representatives to have dragged, with Lyon having now emerged as a potential suitor. And the protracted move for Mina compounds what has been a difficult summer for Marco Silva in his attempts to bring in a top-quality central defender.

Aside from their interest in Mina, Everton had also looked at bringing in Marcos Rojo from Manchester United although there has been no additional movement over a possible deal for the Argentine.Silva will now consider an approach for Frenchman Zouma, who spent the 2017-18 campaign on loan with relegated Stoke City and is not part of new boss Maurizio Sarri's first-team plans at Stamford Bridge.

Indeed, Zouma has trained away from the first team with the club's group of loan players during pre-season and appears certain to be moved on before the transfer window closes at 5pm BST on August 9.

Despite struggling to break through at Chelsea in recent years, Zouma is still considered one of the Premier League's top young defenders and was part of France's B list for the World Cup.As well as the 23-year-old, Chelsea could also allow Tammy Abraham to leave on loan, with the striker having attracted interest from Championship club Aston Villa.

The Blues would prefer the England forward to make the move to a Premier League club, however, while Michy Batshuayi is another who could be offloaded, with Sevilla leading the race to sign him on loan.

Everton, meanwhile, face a race against time to get any final deals over the line, with Thursday's transfer deadline fast approaching and Lucas Digne and Richarlison the only significant additions having been made by the club so far.

They have, however, agreed a deal to bring Brazil international Bernard to Goodison Park on a free transfer after he left Shakhtar Donetsk.

'World's best' youngster Milinkovic-Savic worth more than Pogba, says Lazio president

Lazio president Claudio Lotito claimed midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic is worth more than Manchester United's Paul Pogba, stating the Serbian is "much stronger".

Milinkovic-Savic has been the subject of persistent rumours linking him with a move away from Lazio, where he has been one of the club's top performers since arriving from Genk in August 2015.

The 23-year-old is reportedly being tracked by Lazio's Serie A rivals Juventus and AC Milan as well as Real Madrid and Manchester United, but Lotito said no offers for the player have been made since 2017.

"Sergej is the best young player on the world scene, with huge potential," Lotito told Corriere della Sera."I have not received any official offers either from Milan or Juventus, let alone from Real or United."Of course, I do not push to sell him but if you ask me how much he is worth then I remember that last year, August 29, I refused a €110 million offer."

Milinkovic-Savic scored 12 goals in 35 Serie A appearances as Lazio finished fifth in 2017-18, before playing in all three of Serbia's games at the World Cup.Lotito indicated that he may be willing to part with the playmaker should an offer in excess of the €105 million that Manchester United paid for Pogba were to arrive.

"How much has Pogba been sold to Manchester? €105 million?" said Lotito. "So Milinkovic is worth more, because he is much stronger."And be clear, I'm not interested in technical counterparts or loan-type formulas."

Lotito has already said that Lazio will only listen to "indecent offers" for their star , while Milinkovic-Savic himself has already claimed he is staying at Lazio.AC Milan director Leonardo, meanwhile, says his side have withdrawn their interest because of the asking price.

Kovacic undergoes Chelsea medical as Milan open talks over Bakayoko loan

Real Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic is undergoing a medical at Chelsea, who in turn have opened talks with AC Milan regarding a loan move for Tiemoue Bakayoko.Kovacic is set to complete a season-long loan move to Stamford Bridge as he looks to earn more minutes than have been on offer to him at Santiago Bernabeu.

There will not, however, be any obligation to buy inserted into the deal, meaning as things stand Kovacic would return to the Spanish capital at the end of the campaign. His arrival in west London is set to push Bakayoko further down the pecking order following a disappointing debut campaign in 2017-18.

The France international struggled to establish himself under Antonio Conte upon his £40 million ($51.7m) arrival from Monaco, and Goal understands intermediaries from the Blues have met with Rossoneri officials to secure a move for the 23-year-old.His replacement, Kovacic, arrives following Maurizio Sarri's request that the club sign a midfielder with different characteristics to those currently at his disposal.

A deal had been agreed to sign Russia star Aleksandr Golovin from CSKA Moscow, only for Monaco to swoop in and complete a €30m (£27m/$34.8m) move.

Kovacic's arrival will likely see him play alongside N'Golo Kante and fellow new signing Jorginho in Chelsea's midfield, though the Croatia international may need some time to get match fit having only just returned to training this week following the World Cup.

He is set to join Athletic Club goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga in swapping La Liga for west London after the Basque outfit confirmed on Tuesday that the player's £71m ($93m) release clause had been activated. He is set to replace Thibaut Courtois, whose £31m ($40m) move to Real Madrid should be announced by Thursday at the latest.

Bakayoko, meanwhile, could be followed out the exit door by defender Kurt Zouma after Everton turned their attention towards signing the centre-back ahead of the transfer window closing.

Chelsea confirm €35m Courtois sale to Real Madrid as Kovacic moves to London

    Yz6PF2E.jpg

Chelsea have confirmed the sale of Thibaut Courtois to Real Madrid, with Mateo Kovacic coming to Stamford Bridge as part of the deal.

Courtois has been at the west London club since 2011, and wrested the No. 1 jersey from club favourite Petr Cech after shining during a loan spell with Atletico Madrid as a youngster. In recent months, however, the Belgian has become increasingly unsettled, going so far as to skip training, while he has long been linked with a return to the Spanish capital where he spent three sparkling seasons.

And he will now line up at the Champions League holders after Madrid agreed a reported €35m (£31m/$40m) fee that will also see Kovacic spend a year on loan in London.

"Chelsea and Real Madrid have tonight agreed terms for the permanent transfer of Thibaut Courtois subject to the agreement of personal terms and passing a medical," Chelsea signalled in a statement published on the club's official website."Subject to the completion of the deal Mateo Kovacic will join the Blues on a season-long loan."

Real Madrid also confirmed the deal, revealing that the Belgium goalkeeper will put pen to paper on a contract that takes him up to the end of the 2023-24 season."Real Madrid and Chelsea have agreed the transfer of Thibaut Courtois, who will be linked to the club for the next six seasons," Madrid stated on their official website.

"After the medical that will be carried out on August 9, the player will be presented at 1pm (12pm BST, 7am ET) in the Santiago Bernabeu stadium."Later Courtois will step out for the first time on the Santiago Bernabeu turf with the Real Madrid shirt and speak to reporters in the press room."

Courtois played a total of 154 appearances for Chelsea, winning the Premier League on two occasions. He also boasts ample experience in Spain, having made an identical number of appearances for Atletico which included a starring role in the Colchoneros' 2013-14 Liga triumph.

Courtois may not have to wait long to face his old club, with Real Madrid set to face Atletico in the UEFA Super Cup on August 15.

Chelsea capture Kepa for world-record £72m fee

    xAzssnh.jpg

Chelsea have paid a reported world-record £72 million (€80m/$92m) to sign Kepa Arrizabalaga from Athletic Bilbao as a successor to Real Madrid-bound Thibaut Courtois.

The new fee smashes the previous goalkeeper transfer record, set when Liverpool purchased Alisson Becker from Roma for £65m in July.Kepa has signed a seven-year contract with the Blues as they finish the transfer window with a flourish.

"It’s a very important decision for me, for my career, and also for my personal life," the goalkeeper told the club's official website.

"So many things attracted me to the club, all the titles the club has won, the other players, the city, the English Premier League. It’s an accumulation of things, and I am very glad Chelsea has decided to trust me and to take me in as well."

Earlier in the day, Chelsea announced Courtois was departing the club in a deal for a reported £31m deal that also includes Mateo Kovacic heading the Stamford Bridge on a year-long loan.

The Blues had paid Kepa's release clause, with the player's representatives and lawyers traveling to La Liga's headquarters in Valencia to pay the fee, before traveling to London undergo a medical and finalise personal terms.Athletic confirmed the release clause had been paid before thanking Kepa and wishing him well in the future.

The 23-year-old Kepa has been Athletic's goalkeeper the past two seasons, playing in over 50 La Liga games and earning himself a place on Spain's World Cup roster for the 2018 tournament in Russia.Prior to that, Kepa, who came up through the club's youth system, had featured for Ponferradina and Real Valladolid in Spain's second division while on loan from Athletic Club.

Chelsea open up their Premier League campaign with a visit to Huddersfield Town on Saturday.

Agent: Chelsea made 'unthinkable' offer for Juve's Rugani

Daniele Rugani's agent Davide Torchia revealed Chelsea made a huge offer for the Juventus defender, though the Serie A champions have no plans to sell the Italian.

Rugani, 24, has been linked with Premier League giants Chelsea throughout the transfer window after former Napoli head coach Maurizio Sarri replaced Antonio Conte at Stamford Bridge.A reunion appeared to be on the cards following the pair's time together at Empoli until AC Milan signed centre-back Mattia Caldara from Juve.

And Torchia says even a massive offer from the Premier League side wasn't enough to tempt the Italians.

"Juventus have no desire to sell him, not even for a high price which, among other things, no-one in Italy could afford," Torchia told RMC Sport."However, the player has never asked to leave. Only when a very important offer arrives is it normal to listen, but Juventus have rejected all kinds of offers to keep him in Turin.

"Chelsea made a really big bid, which was close to being unthinkable for me, but Juventus didn't relent."[Sami] Khedira played only 10 more games than Daniele last season. I think Rugani can play even more this season."

Rugani will still have plenty of competition for a place in the side with Leonardo Bonucci having returned to Turin in the deal that saw Caldara and Gonzalo Higuain join Milan .
