I can't say where I work.

But we use ,
* Point cloud,
* Machine learning.
* Deep learning.

Etc.
Programming languages like python , C++/C are most widely used.

If you need a good industry level experience in machine learning just get a cosera course, even certificate could be obtained with little fee, but it could be directly added to your CV.

If you really interested, do your own research and then make a publication. To do a publication you need some academic help, for that you need to make connections, University staff , find resources in your institute appropriately.

AI is not about learning how to use openCV.dll and recognize your face through the camera. Or just running the android tensor flow sample application on your mobile to your friends.

The real subject is lot deeper than that, it's based on mathematics, anybody could write a sample application with opencv and call it's image processing, yes it's image processing but it doesn't make you a technologist.

It's a research topic, so keep touch in sciencedirect,
