අවසන් හිම යුගය දක්වා අතීත සම්භවයක් ඇති මුල් ප්ලයස්ටොසීනය දක්වා ෆොසිල සාධක දිවෙන සයිගාවන් ගැන අසා තිබෙනවද? සයිගාවන් කියන්නෙ එතරම්ම පැරණි ජීවි විශේෂයක්. යුරේසියානු ස්ටෙප් තෘණ භූමි , කාර්පැතියන්, කොකෙැසස් කඳු පන්ති හරහා මොංගෝලියාව, චීනය තෙක් පැතිරුනු විශාල අඩවියක ජීවත් වුන සයිගාවන් වර්තමානය වන විට ඉතාමත් දැඩි ලෙස තර්ජනයට ලක්ව ඇති ජීවි විශේෂයක්. මේ සත්වයින් නුදුරු අනාගතයේදිම මිහිමතින් තුරන්ව යෑමට ආසන්නයි. සයිගාවන්ට දඩයම, වාසභූමි අහිමි වීම වගෙ මානව තර්ජනවලට අමතරව ස්වාභාවික තර්ජනත් ඒමටයි. විටින් විට ඇතිවන ස්වාභාවික වසංගත තත්වයන් නිසා සයිගා ගහනය කෙමෙන් කෙමෙන් අඩු වෙමින් පවතිනවා. 2015 වර්ශයෙදි පමණක් සති දෙකක් වැනි සුළු කාල රාමුවක් තුල සයිගාවන් හඳුනා නොගත් හේතුවකින් 134000 පමණ මිය ගියා.

සයිගාවන් ඇන්ටිලෝප් සත්වයිනට ඤාතීත්වයක් දක්වන සත්ව විශේෂයක්.මොවුන්ගෙ විශේෂිතම ලක්ෂණය තමයි කෙටි හොඬවැලක් මෙන් පිහිටන නාසය. සංක්‍රමණ සමයේදි විශාල සයිගා රැලවල් ගමන් කිරීමෙන් ඉහල නගින දුහුවිලි තුලින් වාතය පෙරහන් කර ආශ්‍වාස කිරීමටත් ශීත සෘතුවලදි සිසිල් වාතය ආශ්වාස කිරීමේදි එය උණුසුම් කිරීමටත් උපකාරී වෙනවා. සයිගාවන් කියන්නෙ අවසන් හිම යුගයෙන් පසු ශේෂ වූ අපූරු සත්ව විශේෂයක්.

මේ සත්වයින් මිහිමතින් තුරන් කිරීමට පරිණාමය තීරණය කර ඇත්ද ? වෙනස්වන දේශගුණික රටා වැනි කරුණු සමඟ ඉදිරියට යාමට ඔවුන් දැන් නුසුදුසුද ? එහෙමත් නැත්නම් ඔවුන්ගෙ අවසානයට අපි සෘජුවම වගකිව යුතුද ? යන්නට තවමත් නිසි පිලිතුරු නැති ප්‍රශ්න

The saiga antelopes were found to be infected with a bacterium that causes blood poisoning and internal bleeding, or hemorrhagic septicemia. Now, a new study shows that unusually wet and hot weather played a key role in causing the outbreak. How exactly that happened, though, remains a bit of a mystery.

Another strange fact is that the saigas always have twins.
