That's just an assumption. Just because you are a Doctor, it doesn't mean you know it all :P
On the other hand even If they knew, you need millions of dollars worth investments. It's not that we don't have educated enough people. It;s the other resources we lack.

By the way you seem to be defending the OP. something else going on between you two ?

This particular topic and arguments related to it always amuse me.

Regardless of the industry, if anyone happens to have interesting ideas, I don't think it is impossible to find funding. If you can say you have an approach for finding cure for cancer, I'm pretty sure there will be people interested in talking to you. Of course, no one is throwing money at us if we say we will mess around and try to come up with something with it. This is what most Sri Lankans think what those foreign people were doing when they started those big companies.

Sri Lankans already have an edge cos of the free education compared to others.

    1. Really ? just because you believe or say you have a cure, will the investors come chasing you ?
    2. No, a professional would never say we will mess around and come back with a solution
    3. Problem is you have positivity in your life, yet you don't know where to apply it nor how to... you can't form such high end research lab out of the blue.. that's my point. it takes a lot of resources, skilled people and state of the art technology, safety is at the highest. It's not that we can't do it as a nation...it's just not at this moment. You can't do something of this scale with a simple GoFundMe campaign. If you believe you can rent some building and start playing with deadly viruses, God Bless you..... Do you atleast know this bit, we have a lot of Labs in Sri Lanka, you can get your Urine, Stool or Blood samples checked from them. But not all of them are authorized to run PCR tests.. do you know why ? Not all of them are capable enough, or safe enough to play with such. You need specially trained staff for that purpose. Don't trust my words, check for yourself.

So the world don’t really care about curing cancer and what they care about is who cures the cancer?

never said it’s easy and it is something everyone can do. Of course the virus has to be handled the right way and there are no exceptions for Sri Lankans. And it’s true, you have to put a big fight to get to these levels. Sitting back and complaining government or investors doesn’t help.

you see, this is exactly the problem with Sri Lankan attitudes. They think, in developed countries, people are getting free degrees and then everyone gets couple of hundreds of millions per month to find their way to come up with something.

why cant sri lanka make a vaccine for covid ?
How long it took us to identify a particular variant? You think we can develop a vaccine when we cannot fully sequence a genome? We are lagging far behind the technology. In the developed world how they trace the covid infections? They trace the parent contact in a few hours. That's the success to cluster containment. How long we take to get a PCR done? :(

In other countries they spend millions to support research in the Universities and also to other Research Institutions. There are brilliant academics and top class PhD research students who can be easily put to task with the funding.

Vaccine production itself is not that difficult once you purchase the initial equipment. These days suspension cell lines are used in large bioreactors. These and the ancillary equipment are very expensive. The production itself is quite complex process, involving multiple steps and components, and it's vital that contamination is prevented at each step.

When we are begging for funds to buy vaccines, who would think we can invest in vaccine production. Unless someone is prepared to loan us the technology.

well... in which part did I say so ? did i ? Did i say only the so called developed countries can do such ? I was only talking about the technical difficulties regardless of whether it is a developed country or not. they have to jump through same hoops as us, same trouble to find investors.

the real problem is peoples lack of knowledge to understand certain facts as Sri Lankans, because they have this so called "awurudu dahas ganaka hela thakshana' meniyawa all over themselves.

it's a well known fact the in those developed countries no one gets free degrees... you know it, i know it. even a fifth grader nowadays knows it.

once again, my point is not that we can't do it, right now we don't have the resources required. for such Sri Lanka is too expensive right now. look at the fucking Dollar to Rupee rate thanks to our beloved politicians.. all green, blue and red idiots. with our current situation, we as a country cannot afford to invest in such, we could have thought of this many years ago. then the story would have been different.

then we could have simply stop the dramas like Dhammika paniya even before they start.

btw, I still complaint the current and past governments because it was there responsibility to look at the future and prepare the nation for it. and then I always blame the majority of the government servants. if they did their job right, we are in a better place than we are right now.

Imagine for a second, an organization called X is going to start such a research lab here in SL, they have the investors and what not. then the next phase is the approval phase. everyone needs a cut, and it takes months or may be years to establish, then comes these "wurthiya samithi pisso" and "GMOA' and all others with strikes....

end of the day the Investors will find somewhere else for the project

that is what exactly happened with the Google project to establish an office in Sri Lanka.

As I understand, Medical Doctors do not come up with new medicine. Scientists / Chemists do that.
    PS.
Sri Lankan doctors like to pretend like they are gods but at the end of the day, they are not that great compared to the rest of the world.
Simple example.. SL doctors do not get involved in diagnostic medicine. If a cure is not written on a book/research paper or if the sales rep doesn't have it as a cure in their brochure, our doctors won't use it. Same goes for complicated surgeries..
