The new project which will bring immense privileges and benefits to Sri Lankan TV broadcasters, viewers and the general public as a whole will be launched under a special financial assistance provided by the Government of Japan to Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka will use the Japanese standard (ISDB-T).

Sri Lanka’s first digital terrestrial television broadcast will begin in 2023 and the project is scheduled to be completed by 2025.

This standard is terrible selection, should have adopted Europe DVB-T2, which is far superior.
most modern tvs come with DVB, now even they have to buy isdb decoders/set-top boxes.

    Yes!
Money is from Japan. They selected the standard.
yes machan. now we have to pay the loan for a shit technology standard.

Japanese loan for implementing their shit standard.
If they implemented this for free I wouldn't complain but this is a loan, now we have to pay for their shit standard.
ISDB is terrible choice when compared to DVB, DVB is far superior in every way & extremely high adoption in global scale.
now even the modern TV can't decode these channels and need to buy separate set-top boxes or buy japanese tvs.

if sl gov was ok to implement digital tv with a loan, they should have taken loan from another country (or japan without agreeing to use their standard) and implement DVB-T2. I think this could have done as a ppp.

Whatever the technology, will we see a better form of programs, or the usual crap on TV?

technological standpoint going to digital tv is better than staying in analog (even isdb)
what I was saying was isdb is stupid choice compared to the other option considering we have to pay the loan anyway.

better programs? that's totally depend on tv channel. if they keep showing deweni inima, we will be able to watch that shit much clearer.
going with digital tv release some frequency range which can be used for 4G communication for rural areas (something trcsl mentioned)
and allows to transmit more than 200 or so tv channels.
