Chinese scientists new gel filling could triple lifespan of lithium batteries for EVs, drones

Chinese scientists have developed a new technology that could triple the lifespan of a traditional lithium-ion battery and reduce its risk of catching fire.

The technology, which replaces the battery’s chemical solution with a new substance of gel-like consistency, could be scaled up to find immediate application in China’s booming electric vehicles industry, the researchers said.

There are other Cobalt mines outside Congo as well. Also there are other places with deposits they just have not started mining yet due to lack of demand.

Most Lithium reserves are in Chile, Australia, Argentina & China. Next comes in the US, Canada, Zimbabwe, Brazil, Portugal etc.
I believe Australia is the leading producer close to 50% of the World's supply.

GPE batteries have been developed across many countries by several teams.

PS: Russia, Australia, Phillipines plus several smaller countries have Cobalt (other than the Congo which is the No#1)
