The truth is there was NEVER a country called India before Europeans came. The landmass known as India was home to at least 16 kingdoms and many many smaller areas ruled by various chiefs (similar to present-day Africa).
It was Dutch who created a country called India (for administrative and trading purposes). Then the British took over. Without Europeans, NO India.
    Indians never accept this truth.

In my opinion, this is true with Sri Lanka as well. Before Europeans, to my knowledge there was no concept of nation states through out the rest of the world, it was either kingdoms or empires which were under the personal authority of a strongman (king, empereror).

Sri Lanka was a collection of kingdoms. The kingdom that had the custody of the tooth relic was considered prominent. There may have been areas that were not in the jurisdiction of any of those kingdoms.

I think Heladhipaya or whatever term we find in ancient literature is refering to the island as a geographical entity rather than a political entity.

The concept of a nation or country was absent back then.

do not be complacent. india is way ahead of us now. I've seen many videos on youtube showcasing their very practical educational system. I wonder when our rulers will open their eyes to these things.

I want us South Asians to be a union like the European Union. Despite our rivalry against each other, we share a very similar culture. Our foods, religions, and customs are the same. Once Europeans fought each other, it went on massive scale, hence called world wars, but they became a union. So why can't we do the same?

Actually the India - Pakistan bitter rivalry is hindering the entire region and its cooperation. Otherwise, such a cooperation would be priceless.
