W engines crank out more power 'cause of the extra cylinders, but I prefer V engines for supercars. They're lighter and got better fuel efficiency.
afaik, engine type (in this case W) has nothing to do with better fuel efficiency. imagine a V16 with same cylinder capacity & everything else, it would probably have same fuel consumption.
(upcoming bugatti chiron's replacement will have a V16 with hybrid assist)

lightweightness: I doubt this either. afaik, they went with W type because of the compactness and lightweightness(relatively)
imagine a V16 with same specs, it would be twice the length of the W16. It would also make the crank shaft twice the length.

So why did F1 racers never use W-type engines? They always stick with V6s

we're appreciating it because it's a technological marvel in auto industry dumbasses, not because we lose an opportunity to buy one.

let me explain in way people like you can understand, "people appreciating Albert Einstein for what he did for the science not because they lost an opportunity to suck his dick".

what a fucking dumb retarded cunts you are.

So why did F1 racers never use W-type engines? They always stick with V6s
afaik F1s only used V10s (retired) & V6s (present standard).

10 or 6 pistons can't be arranged in W design. to go with W type, cylinder number has to be divisible by 2 and the answer has to be even number.
otherwise you can't stack two V type cylinder arrangements on top of each other to make a W type.
[10/2 = 5 which is odd, 6/2=3 which is odd]

so if F1 used V12 or V8, those can be arranged in W configuration. 12/2 = 6 which is even, so you can stack 2 V6s on top of each other for W12.
[W12 engines were used in Bentley Cars, those also will be replaced soon. Bugatti & Bentley both belong to Volkswagen]

Afaik, These are the biggest reasons F1 stick to V type.
    so let's assume F1s used W8,
    * even though W type reduce engine length by half, it raises the center of gravity because now you have two piston stacks on top of each other [relatively speaking] which definitely affect agility. & also increase the engine width.

    * In above point I said W config cut down the length by half, doesn't it a big deal? yes, it does. but only for larger and larger engines.
how so, created a top view image for demo below.

as shown in the diagram, when you use W type for smaller engines in this case V8, it increases the height of the engine & width but only saves length by 2 cylinder rows. Also shouldn't forget the complexity of W type config relative to the V type. W type engine pistons also has to be connected to a one crank shaft. Not worth the effort. Basically what you gain is lower than what you lose.

but if you have much larger engine like 16 cylinder bugatti. the compactness becomes significant. only has increased the width & height of the engine same to the W8 but length is saved by 8 rows.

    After those big reasons,
F1s normally working in extremely high RPM all the time (15k-20k RPM). it doesn't care about idle speed vibrations, noise or many stuff you have to think about road legal cars. So V type engines are simpler in design relative to W type engine. which may affect for reliability, reliance on the track running @ 15k RPM majority of the time.

Also considering F1s nature, which is extremely light car [relatively speaking] it doesn't need 1000 - 1500 hp. 700hp - 800hp is enough i think, So V6 is the sweet spot.
if they can get 700hp or something from a three cylinder engine, they would have gone with that instead of new V6 standard.

that's why F1 never went with W type. smaller W types kind of useless for the application & large W type spec wise make sense but huge overkill.
