I noted that someone recently made a post regarding the use of doxyPEP. There are countries that are against this because the long term usage has not been properly studied and there's a huge risk of developing resistance to the tetracycline class of antibiotics, which includes doxycycline, not only in gonorrhoea, but in related bacteria that could acquire tetracycline resistance by gene-swapping.
Depending on the country, gonorrhoea organism already being largely resistant to doxycycline – this is the very reason it stopped being used as a treatment in the late 1980s.
So the question remains, are the benefits of doxyPEP worth the risk.
