Tigo was owned by Millicom. Their business model is to operate in high risk high reward countries where the competition is low. Millicom is an investment company not a tech company.

When Asia's cellular footprint started growing, the business model became unsustainable. They pulled out of Sri Lanka, Cambodia and Laos. Later, they pulled out of Africa as well.

Now they only operate in South America and they may have also changed the business model.

Good times. Got many opportunities to travel.

Although they use the brand name, this one is not owned by Millicom. Maybe they have licensed the brand name as a transitional arrangement.

Etisalat didn't do that in SL. They just went ahead and re branded. That was really a bad idea. They should have just rebranded it with the old name Celltel, and not some tongue twisting Arabic name.
