Please vote : What is the most commonly used engine oil grade (viscosity) in Sri Lanka?

Verdict:

Best for Sri Lanka: 5W-30 Synthetic
(Better heat resistance, suits older engines, and handles traffic better.)

Alternative (if Toyota recommends 0W-20): Use 0W-20 only if the engine is new and you prioritize fuel efficiency over extra protection.

Which is why you shouldn't buy those cars unless you're absolutely sure. That happened to me with last Allion I had.

Well. The car was in really good nick inside and out. First owner (Doctor lol) 80K KM genuine mileage and everything. The engine had a bit of sludge when I bought. Pretty common to Toyota 1NZ engine but due to Covid lockdown it didn't run much. I did periodical oil changes at 6 months at the agent (Toyota 10W30) but the earlier owner hasn't done so. At cold starts, car started giving a sound similar to banging metal inside the engine as if oil is not flowing. The sound will come up to 5-10 minutes and then all good. Looks like the sludge problem has got worsen. Low usage might have accelerated the problem. Sold it but I informed the new owner about it and he was a mechanic so he took it.

Goes to show how mineral oil + short distance running + long OCI ends up in disaster.

Synpower 0W20 is a synthetic oil. So the interval would be 10000km or 1 year and was set by the agent as maintenance minder. Outlander runs almost everyday so I would stick to that recommendation. In fact I checked oil dipstick today and its still in good condition after last service done some 4-5 months ago.

6000km or 6 months, but this time, it’s already about 8000km are done

Transmission is also about 35000km

Indeed, most of the JDM vehicles imported from Japan is using the Wrong Viscosity in SL conditions. because Owners manuals are meant for Japanese conditions. below is a screenshot from Vitara Owners manual (Which is an Export Model). Viscosity is different based on the Ambient temp. so after 30 Celsius it's advised to use 40 Grade oil.
