For the 1NZ-FE engine (commonly found in Toyota vehicles like the Vitz/Yaris) operating under Sri Lankan conditions, the best choice between 0W-20 and 5W-30 synthetic depends on climate, engine wear, and driving habits. Here’s a breakdown:

    1. Climate Considerations (Sri Lanka: Hot & Humid)

Sri Lanka has a tropical climate with high temperatures year-round.

5W-30 is slightly thicker at operating temperatures, offering better protection in heat and stop-and-go traffic.

0W-20 is thinner, optimized for fuel efficiency but may not hold up as well under extreme heat or heavy loads.

    2. Engine Wear & Mileage

Newer/Low-Mileage Engine: If your 1NZ-FE is relatively new (<100,000 km), 0W-20 (Toyota’s recommended grade for newer models) is fine for fuel efficiency.

Higher-Mileage/Worn Engine: If the engine has significant mileage or minor wear, 5W-30 provides better protection against heat and reduces oil consumption.

    3. Driving Conditions

City Driving (Colombo Traffic): Frequent idling and short trips favor 5W-30 for better heat resistance.

Highway/Long Trips: Either works, but 5W-30 may be more stable under sustained high speeds.

    4. Fuel Efficiency vs. Protection

0W-20 offers slightly better fuel economy (~1-3% improvement).

5W-30 provides better engine protection in hot climates and is more forgiving if oil changes are delayed.

    Verdict:

Best for Sri Lanka: 5W-30 Synthetic
(Better heat resistance, suits older engines, and handles traffic better.)

Alternative (if Toyota recommends 0W-20): Use 0W-20 only if the engine is new and you prioritize fuel efficiency over extra protection.
