It's an old ceremonial ritual. Something that definitely has a place in avrudu games.

I believe in the not so long ago past there were Avurudu games like what's on "Dadubasnamanaya" to prove strength..

Perhaps there are areas in SL that still protect those rituals..

Angampora history goes way, way back to maybe over 20,000 years or so, I remember reading about it some time ago in a newspaper. There is a centre in Colombo where several families have got together to preserve the art.
The tug of war is, like you said, a 'macho' event coming back from over 2,000 years in the ancient Olympian era. It's basically considered a struggle for supremacy between two teams. It's not an art as such, but is carried on due to it's appeal.

Supposed to originate from Yaksha tribe..

In the meantime I must admit there's no mention of Angam Pora happening in Avurudu Kreeda.. My apologies..
