Then why use desiel electric locomotive? They are more efficient then diesel locomotive 😁
I think it's a completely different scenario, Locomotives rely on external power, You need to build tracks with electric lines to operate them. So if they can make a locomotive which runs at ideal rpm with a electric motor rather a gear box, it's more economical.

But a passenger car is different, you have to carry the battery plus an engine that's large enough to generate electricity to move the vehicle. A REEV has a huge battery plus a huge engine, that's double weight.

You don't need special tracks, even srilanka railways operate them
Class M2: Introduced in 1954 by General Motors Diesel (Canada), these iconic diesel-electrics are among the most successful in Sri Lanka's railway history. Class S12 & S14: Modern diesel-electric trainsets from China, featuring luxury first-class accommodations and locomotive-like power cars, operating on the scenic Main Line and Kelani Valley Line

I was talking about electric locomotives, Governments have to invest billions to upgrade the railway to operate them. That's why they choose diesel electric locomotives. They are efficient than a typical diesel engine & require less upfront investment.

That's why initially I said " Then why use desiel electric locomotive? They are more efficient then diesel locomotive 😁"

Why would anyone waste an electric motor unless it's better than the old diesel engine? How come that's a valid argument supporting REEV?

Desel electric has more advantages than old disel engine, that's why
Diesel-electric locomotives offer superior pulling power, fuel efficiency, and reliability compared to direct diesel-mechanical designs. By using a diesel engine to spin a generator rather than driving the wheels directly, they eliminate the need for massive, failure-prone gearboxes and clutches.
