I follow a lot of car groups/articles/news etc... There are known issues with almost all GWM products, all sorts of issues from annoying warning signs in the Petrol Hybrids to injector failure in Diesel engines. When it comes to reliability and built quality, even a 5 year old Prado is still way ahead (generally speaking).
But plenty of people buy these in Australia, because they are still
literally half the price of a well equiped Prado, and comes with a 7 years / unlimited kilometre warranty from GWM. I have seen them being driven off-road with some abuse and still perform well.
For me personally, I`d still pay twice the price for a Prado if I am looking to use the car for like 10 years with no doubts about reliability. It`s not just the vehicle itself, but in Australia for example, no other manufacturer can match the service/dealer network, speed of repair and parts availability etc... of Toyota.
But this may change in 5+ years time if Chinese manufactures
prove themselves with long term reliablity, service and parts supply.
