    A Rohingya refugee named Mohammed Anwar addressed the 63rd Session of the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) on September 7, 2026. Speaking on behalf of an international NGO, he publicly pressured the Sri Lankan government to immediately release 116 Rohingya migrants (including 57 children) who have been held in tight state detention for over 20 months after being rescued at sea. Most controversially, Anwar officially demanded that Sri Lanka stop labeling them "illegal immigrants" and consider granting citizenship or permanent residency to refugees who cannot find a third country to relocate to.

    This has raised serious concerns among locals, especially since a prosperous country like Malaysia is currently deporting 1,500 Rohingya back to Myanmar because their local capacity of 126,000 refugees has completely maxed out. Sri Lanka never intended to host these migrants permanently; the Sri Lankan Navy rescued them strictly under international maritime laws to prevent them from drowning when their human-trafficking boats failed in our waters. Because Sri Lanka has not signed the 1951 Refugee Convention, the government's official policy has been to keep them in strict detention as temporary transit passengers until a Western nation takes them.

    There is a growing fear that if the government gives in to this UN pressure, it may trigger a massive wave of more refugees taking dangerous sea routes to Sri Lanka, expecting to gain permanent residency. If Sri Lanka transitions from a temporary transit point into a country that grants citizenship to illegal boat arrivals, it could unintentionally turn the island into a primary destination for regional migration loops. What do you think the government should do to handle this situation without compromising national security?

    if they want permanent residency, they should speak the national language, convert to main religion and main nationality.
    Else -> fuck off
