It depends. Low level (basic programmer level) IT jobs are becoming saturated now, but still I think there is demand for high level technical jobs. But personally I think you'll have better prospects with engineering, but that too depends on the specialization: civil, Electronic, Electrical, Mechanical, Aeronautical, telecommunications, etc..

    Engineering is good with probably better scope than IT, but the fact remains that the best paid engineers in SL are the computer engineers(and IT pros), and they have a very high demand too. Civil engineering has its pros in the present climate as well(with the rebuilding). But if you wanna end up as a hot shot with some huge earnings you'll have to start up ur own firm or do secondary management qualification lyk cima to go up the coperate ladder.

    Yes, I think in Sri Lanka on average IT professionals get better salaries. But if you have any plans to go abroad to pursue higher studies (post graduate level) then you'll get more opportunities in engineering. I was actually talking in a more global scope.

    But if you have no intensions of doing post graduate studies or going abroad, then IT is good.
